Loved the thoughtfulness that went into making it a pleasant place to stay: robes and slippers, multiple places to lay suitcases out, hangers that don't require special effort to get them off the rack, adequate drawer and shelf space, a room safe, many amenities (fridge, electric kettle, microwave, coffee & tea, ceramic and glass mugs, outlets, end tables and reading lights on both sides of the bed, tourist info, desk and chair, additional easy chair, balcony with table and chairs, bathroom essentials like soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner, adequate places to hang towels, decent towels and enough of them - you get the picture), lots of light, a great grocery store next door, a decent bed and pillows, and proximity to everything. Plus you can get breakfast/lunch at the Cafe with several vouchers for free coffee.

The walls are paper thin. If there are people in adjoining rooms, you can hear them and entire conversations clearly. There is a bit of a musty smell in the hallway, and occasionally in the room, but neither are overpowering.

There was free coffee. There was not free breakfast. The location is central to wonderful restaurants and backs up to a nice neighborhood with overnight fee parking. Shares a side of building with a grocery store, but was quiet overnight. Breakfast pastries looked good. I love Cheeseboard Collective next door. I will stay again. Nice microwave and mini fridge. Shower was modern and large. Spacious room that was well decorated. They’re doing the most with what they’ve got. Not a new Hyatt in Emeryville, so if that’s your heart’s desire, enjoy that. This hotel is perfect for my preferences.

The hotel was vacant, so a single female would be slightly safer on a higher floor. I was given 102.

Perfect location right on Shattuck ! Many great places to eat and visit by walking just a few steps. Gourmet Market next door, Safeway and CVS right up the street .We ate at Saul’s Deli twice ( and took pastries home ) and had an amazing dinner at LoCocos authentic Sicilian. The room was very well appointed and had a cute little private terrace. Top notch toiletries and bathrobes , bedding, iron, hairdryer… well thought out. Coffee shop served top notch cappuccino ( Sono Italiano) in cozy Bohemian atmosphere with History of modern art / impressionist theme. Worth the little extra cost to have the boutique experience; don’t hesitate or even think about staying down near the marina area just saying this is the better neighborhood.

No complaints totally met or exceeded our expectations; good job management and staff!

Another great stay at Sens Berkeley! Can't beat this great location and friendly café downstairs (also goodies and coffee at nearby Cheese Board and original Peets Coffee). Walk to UC Berkeley campus easily. Rooms come with small refrigerator, microwave, and some eating utensils and plates -- you can eat al fresco in the the rooms with balconies. The market next door has a great take-out selection.

The only things that would improve this hotel are impossible given its location and size, and that would be to have a grand view of something pleasant and to have a pool/spa/gym. You'll have too many other things to do around here to miss those things!

Great location! Free cup of coffee each morning in the bistro on first floor. In the same block as Cheeseboard with amazing daily pizza and bakery - not to be missed! Delightful little balcony and microwave and refrig, even with plates and silverware. Very good bathroom and room was comfortable with plenty of space to put suitcases, hang up clothes and spread out for those of us who have been living out of a suitcase for a couple of weeks. This was our second stay here and I am sure there will be more. FYI parking was $8 in the parking lot right next door,

I liked the location and the walkability of the location.

They need to put in their listing.." go thru the coffee shop to the back to find the check in desk" I had to ask the coffe shop person where reception was. There isn't someone at the reception desk all the time. There isn't a coffee machine in the room. You get a coupon for coffee but the shop doesn't open till 0630. If you're on east coast time that translates to 0930.

Very interesting property. The location is outstanding for restaurants, coffee shops (Cheese Board Collective has the best breads and cheese, and the pizza was obviously extremely popular). Also close to UC campus. Staff was excellent and helpful. Room fairly small but very well-designed. I was concerned about noise but it was never a problem for us. Overall great experience, we will stay there again the next time we are in Berkeley.

Love the balcony rooms to sit outside in the late afternoon. Great bed and amenities. Our third stay here and will use everytime we are in Berkeley. Free cup of coffee each day at the Bistro downstairs. In the same block as a Safeway market, and Cheeseboard Collective for great muffins and pizza.

A little room confusion when we arrived but was taken care of.

It’s a very nice room. I liked the little patio area although we never went out there. The coffee was excellent, better than in room coffee even if you have to put your clothes on to get it! It was different, having to ring the bell to get someone to let us in in the evening, but they came rapidly and it was no hassle at all

It’s a minor thing, but we were told to park in the bank of America lot and the Bank of America is no longer open so we weren’t sure where we should go at first. It was easy to use however.

Location great. Room clean overall, bed comfy. Coffee bar was great. Coffee great and they had oatmeal that was delish for very reasonable prices.

Rug was either dirty or stained. It looked unclean compared to rest of room.
