everything about this place was dreamy and enchanting. Bonus points if you are a fan of history and architecture. The Pool was gorgeous, perfect temperature and so relazing. The breakfast (included) was also one of the best I have ever had at a hotel in the US in awhile, with an entire spread of gluten free options. The staff was friendly, helpful, and warm and made us feel like family. The area was also great being so close to the UC Berkely campus. one of my favorite stays in the last 3 years by far! I will def be returnign.

no complaints but the rooms were small and a queen size bed seems to be the biggest option. which makes sense considering when and for what it was originally built. Something to consider if you're the kind of person that needs a lot of space.

The Berkeley City Club is a true treasure. Located very close to UC Berkeley - all restaurants and campus are within walking distance . Yet, once inside the hotel, you feel like you are in a beautiful retreat, far away from all of the activity close by. The building is a historical building, designed by Julia Morgan, and as such has many beautiful architectural features. For us, the style of the bedrooms was perfect- cozy, no televisions and the decor reminded us of a B&B. The breakfast included was fantastic and a special treat to have it served in the restaurant located on the 2nd floor. We will definitely stay here next time we are in Berkeley.

Breakfast was not just continental; it was amazing--gourmet food from their excellent farm to table restaurant. Hotel guests are given reservations I think, at least we got one for dinner on Thursday night. All of the food and the staff in the restaurant were terrific. The location is ideal for going to UC Berkeley--a short walk. The building is by a famous architect and is a historical monument so it's great to see. Also is a health club with a giant swimming pool and beautiful garden. Lovely view from our room. Very simple woom but comfortable.

People down the hall were making noise late at night and the person in the office said she was the only one there so she couldn't go upstairs. I was surprised there was no security guard who could tell them to be quiet. She called their room and they did get quiet immediately.

This historic Berkeley social club, now also a hotel, designed by Julia Morgan in 1929, could be a destination all by itself. Besides my own room, I enjoyed the multiple spacious common areas, both indoor and outdoor, for reading and relaxing. Each is unique and architecturally inspiring, a great place to hang out with friends or a good book. As a hotel it was very comfortable - bed and room very comfortable, nice continental breakfast and 24-hour coffee and tea. Windows can be opened for fresh air. Everything was immaculately clean. There is a fine restaurant and a bar/lounge that offers lighter fare. The location is a few blocks from UC Berkeley campus, about the same distance to BART and a wide variety of restaurants. The staff without exception were friendly, courteous and attentive.

To me it was perfect. Some unusual features include no TVs in the rooms, and that face masks are still expected.

Amazing architecturally, the City Club oozes history and charm. Wonderful continental breakfast buffet. Comfortable room. Lovely bar and restaurant on the premises, as well as central garden area.

Our check-in was held up for two full hours waiting for housekeeping to ‘finish’ preparing our room. This means they had six hours to clean a relatively small room. We spent the time reading in the lobby area, but I’ve never experienced such a lengthy delay in my years of travel. We had an event to shower and prepare for, and made it just in time.

The other reviews are right in that the rooms are small and a little aged; our bed was the smallest I've ever encountered in an American hotel! That said, this is a unique and stunning building, and the communal areas are plentiful and beautiful. There's also a lot of activity happening - during our stay there were play rehearsals, music recitals and a tango night - so the place feels very alive, though peaceful and mostly quiet. The swimming pool is gorgeous. Unlike other reviewers, we found our shower to be plenty powerful and the wifi was good. Overall, I loved staying here.

The room was very very small and the dark beige colour scheme didn't help it at all. The breakfast is pretty sad, and the selection got worse each day. The restaurant and bar shut very early.

Great location. Lots of restaurants to walk to close to hotel. We were there to attend a show at the Greek Theater and this hotel was within walking distance which was perfect for us.

I would not say I did not like but the hotel is a historic older place so newer modern items are not included. For us it was part of the charm. No TV but while traveling my husband and I rarely turn one on so did not miss it at all.

So much charm in every detail here. Room size and furnishings were consistent with the historical building. Mattress on the firm side. Continental breakfast was delightful and far and away better service and food than I've ever had anywhere else. Parking was reasonably priced and very convenient to the hotel. The hotel is beautiful and worth a visit to see for yourself. A true feast for the eyes and soul if you're interested in California history and architecture. One of the few places I've had to wear a mask indoors if that's something you're considering. We didn't try any of the other restaurants, unfortunately.

The only thing that might keep me from visiting again is the shower. The smaller tub is fine but the full-circle cloth shower curtain did not stay put and I found myself wrestling a bit with the shower curtain that kept blowing against me while trying to shower. Not ideal. Also not the biggest issue.

Our room located on the fourth floor was very quiet due to the layout of the rooms in proximity to the other rooms on our floor. Simple design and furnishings. Good ventilation. No TV but good Wi-Fi reception. There is an elevator to the upper floors to access the hotel rooms and to the dining room, etc. The continental breakfast served in the beautiful dining room was a notch above the usual fair with flawless, friendly service. This hotel is located on Durant, and for a fee includes an outdoor parking lot adjacent to the hotel. This is central Berkeley & just three blocks up from the commercial area along Shattuck Avenue, the Berkeley Arts District & a BART station also on Shattuck. It is just a few blocks away from the U.C. Berkeley campus as well as bustling Telegraph Avenue. We parked our car and walked everywhere. f The architectural design of this property was by Julia Morgan around 1927. It was originally the Women's City Club (and residence hotel) It is now an historic landmark. It is a stunningly beautiful building.! Along with the hotel rooms, it is also a club for members which features the dining room/restaurant, bar, lounge areas, a library/ grand piano, a restful outdoor patio complete with koi pond and tranquil fountain. There is a gorgeous indoor swimming pool which features four lanes for lap swimming, along with changing rooms, showers, lockers etc., The pool it should be noted is also used by members of the Berkeley City Club. Certain times of the day the number of swimmers is limited (lovely!) This pool is like the one she designed for Hearst Castle. There are several events areas including a ballroom. Everywhere there seem to be nooks and crannies to explore. The staff was efficient but also friendly and very helpful. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer and take advantage of all this property has to offer.

I am not really sure what could have been better. It was an amazing experience. Perhaps the "Queen" bed could have been slightly larger. It felt small for a Queen.

It was great to stay in a Julia Morgan designed building(s); loved the history and the exceptional care that is given the premises. Fantastic to have even the old elevators still operating! loved the historic information posted about in rooms and nooks about the building or the art collection; thought the staff was very approachable and helpful on all accounts. The continental breakfast had classy offerings in the pastry department. The inner courtyard garden was a magical place to while away an hour or so. ALSO Actually liked that there were very CLEAR preferences stated about mask wearing on the property-- I believe this is beneficial to all parties.

well, the old elevators make a lot of heavy grinding noises and if you are located in a -01 room you really hear/feel it. Thankfully most guests were not coming in after 10 p.m. so that regular noise subsided. Also, impossible to get on wi-fi (very weak in room 501) but our Tmobile connection made up for it.
