The Shattuck is located in downtown, a two-minute walk from Bart. This makes it convenient and easily accessible. It's also in a renovated old building with lots of character.

The renovations are beginning to show their age, so some refurbishing is needed. they also introduced a new system of liquid soap, shampoo and conditioners, but they're often empty (i've stayed there several times over the past 18 months or so). The restaurant is over priced, so I haven't eaten there in some time. Finally, if you get a room facing the street - especially Shattuck - you're likely to be awakened by trucks making deliveries in the middle of the night, so I opt for an inner-facing room.

The air conditioner did not work in my room. The staff should have noticed this prior to my check in. I spent a very uncomfortable first night there. On the second day, when I returned to the hotel, I called the front desk. He immediately sent the maintenance gentleman to my room, and very quickly gave me another room. Maintenance checked the room prior to me vacating my original room, brought me the key, and escorted me to my new room. That unexpected service was really nice, and is what makes your hotel successful. The response, once I notified the front desk, was excellent.

We were visiting Berkeley with our son for a campus visit so this hotel was just a couple blocks away. The reception staff were all so friendly! Beautiful old hotel with well appointed rooms. Bed was SO comfortable, especially after a day walking all over campus! Large bathroom, lots of space, and great shower. We had a king suite that had a sofa bed and half bath in a room off the master. Table and chairs, small desk. Very comfortable all around.

There is no parking at the hotel. Street parking but that's if you find a spot (we did). However, we did see a parking garage nearby.

This is a very nice hotel. It was clean and quiet and the room was nice. The insulation in the building is outstanding. I didn't hear a thing. The bed was very comfortable and the water pressure was great. (I'm picky about that.) It's a nice location too.

The room was pretty small. It didn't even have a closet. I don't know why this always happens to me, but the keycard they gave me at check in didn't work and I had to go all the way back down to get a new one. But the front desk called to make sure I got into the room. So that was a nice touch.

The location in the center of Berkeley is great. We were able to walk to the university campus. The room was spacious and clean. The lobby and restaurant decor is attractive.

The French toast barely had any egg and too much fruit compote. The parking garage is close, but we had to drive into it from a different street parallel to the one the hotel is on; but we could walk between it and the hotel using a passageway.

I did not have the chance to try the breakfast. In my room, I had plenty of space and what I liked the most was that I could control the thermostat !!, plus the staff quite friendly. Thank you !! Oh, the bus-stop and bart-station were just a step away, so convenient !!

There was some lack of communication between Hotel Reception and the House-keeping group.

Location next to the Metro was great. Plenty of restaurants around. Love the historic aspect of the hotel. The Staff was very friendly and helpful.

While historic, the hotel is a little dated with the carpet and decorations. Walls are very thin. Rooms are a little small. Mostly minor aesthetic issues.

This older hotel was very pleasant, and the Zino restaurant on site was quite good. Rooms are small as expected in such an old facility, but bathroom was modern and bed was very comfortable. The location near the Berkeley campus and near restaurants was great

When we booked, Booking.com implied that there was parking available. We found through reviews, that the only parking is off site. We asked the hotel to clarify that by sending a message through Booking.com but we received no answer to two requests. We ended up cancelling our car rental and taking an uber from Oakland airport. That worked fine and in the end saved us money over the car rental and high priced off site parking. Our only disappointment was that the hotel didn't bother to respond to our questions about parking.

It was such a beautiful place and the location was close to everything since I had a show at the Greek Theatre. The BART, Walgreens and Target are all opposite corners from there.I felt welcomed and safe this is especially important since I’m a solo female traveler. Izzy (give that man a raise!)was so amazing and accommodating since I was driving up almost 4hrs when I spoke to him on the phone a night prior even more so once I arrived that Sunday. The room didn’t smell like others places I’ve been were the scent of smoke or mold can linger in the carpet or the bedding….super clean!! All lot of places their carpets are dingy or stained but not Shuttuck. Some might shy away because of the price but it was work that every penny! The place has such gorgeous lighting in the bar/restaurant area were I had a cup a coffee under beautiful chandeliers and on a teal velvet couch. I will stay again I’ve Im ever in the Berkeley.

Parking can be a little bit of work if you’re coming in the weekend. However they unlocked the parking garage for me to park my car. Even so it wasn’t that bad.

Hotel has an excellent, convenient location, right in the heart of town. BART is next door and campus is an easy walk. There's a variety of both fine and quick restaurants and shops nearby. Bed was comfortable, bathroom well-designed, and furnishings nice quality. Lobby attractive and hotel staff helpful and full of suggestions about parking, food, and anything requested. Mini-fridge was available upon our request at booking.

Room was small (urban-sized), but it was not cramped. No free parking, but there's a parking lot across the street and metered spaces on all adjacent streets. Metered spaces were no cost from 6pm to 9am, and 2 hour limited from 9-6, same as most of Berkeley. Hotel staff coached us on this.
