From a tourist’s perspective, the location was very convenient, providing easy access to public transportation. There were plenty of stores and restaurants close by. The staff was ever smiling and helpful. The hotel organised a wine and cheese evening daily and hot coffee and bottled water was available 24/7, on the house. Breakfast was included.

The room size was small. There wasn’t much space to move around after placing our 2 large suitcases.

I love Petite Auberge. This is a homey hotel. It is a bit old: walls are coverd with tiny flower wallpaper, old wooden furnitures etc reminding an clasical old european hotel but I found it part of its charm. We had a huge room with a sofa and an armchair in front of the fireplace. The bed was soft and comfortable. The friendly reception staff was very helpful. Every day at 05:00 pm Wine of your choice, cheese and crackers are served free. It is a nice idea and a great aportunity to meet people from all over the world. Breakfast was just enough for me. Fruits, granolla, yogurt, bioled eggs, bread, patiseries, coffee, tea and orange juice.. 24/7 free coffee, tea, watter and soda. The location is great. For 3 days we walked everywhere.

The acoustics is not so good meaning You hear the neighbors next door and those from upstairs.

The rooms were lovely and clean, and had a lot more character than your standard hotel. The staff were exceptionally helpful and accommodating, including letting us use the hotel facilities after checking out on the day we departed, as our flight was late in the evening. Breakfast and evening drinks/nibbles were served next door at the White Swan Inn.

We were initially in a room on the 2nd floor, which meant that noise from the street could be heard if the windows were open, and there was some noise from the room above when people moved around, but on request we were able to move to a room on the 5th (top) floor which was very quiet and peaceful.

The hotel is in a very good location for walking, public transportation and sightseeing. The building itself is a charming historic structure, small for a modern hotel, but compliments the experience of San Francisco. The room included a working gas fireplace which was an unexpected feature, fun to use on chilly evenings.

The building and room could be better maintained--it shows signs of wear and tear since the latest renovation/redecoration. For instance, buckling, pealing wallpaper, dust in high hard to reach areas, nicks in paint, etc. The breakfast and evening wine social selections were high on starches--a little more protein, i.e. eggs, sausage, or cheese would have been welcome.

Wonderful location! The room was great. The free wine night was an unexpected delight.

Disliked · Due to my error, we were late checking out. I thought I had booked one more night. After being notified we were late, we rushed through our lunch and hurried back to remove our personal items. We were locked out. There was no one at the hotel to let us in as we raced against the clock. It was unfortunate that the hotel was booked. We would have stayed another night. An offer to stay at the White Swan was diminished by the fact that we had to pay the late charge on top of another night. It was a poor ending to a lovely stay.

Cosy, little hotel with a second “sister” hotel next door, where breakfast is served. Very comfortable lounges where I could work while my daughter needed to have the room to herself. I visited my daughter and we did a road trip , visiting San Francisco for two days and it is more of a couple’s location I would say… nonetheless we felt very welcome and had a great time. We had a fireplace in our room which was a nice touch. Free water and soft drinks in a fridge.

Parking is pretty expensive, music in the lounge area is pretty loud but I asked if it could be turned down a bit when I had to do some work- no problem

The hotel (and sister hotel next door) are beautiful/quaint/romantic/etc. Clean, comfy, cozy. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was nice, cozy common areas and a lovely outdoor patio. The location is really great, right between Nob Hill and Chinatown and super walkable. Would definitely stay here again.

Just one tiny thing--we paid extra to book a room with a fireplace because the website said the fireplaces were functional, but ours didn't work, and when we asked at the front desk they said the fireplace needed to stay off for safety reasons. It wasn't a huge deal for us, but if that detail is super important to you I would just suggest double-checking with someone as soon as you arrive!

Stayed here years ago and coming back was like seeing an old friend. Warm, welcoming. Room had a lovely fireplace in it. As it was Dec in San Francisco is was perfect for ambiance and a bit of warmth. They have a tea and wine hour that is complimentary and it was wonderful. Lots of couches chairs and a few rooms to choose in with the fires going. Next morning there was coffee, tea, pastries, and yogurt parfaits for breakfast. The staff were very helpful. We walked all around the city from there. Plenty of dining, shopping and sightseeing within walking distance. Lots of transportation options.

Not really better... just be aware this is a BnB with some quirks. The building is older which is part of the charm.

This hotel is perfectly located at a five minutes walk to Union Square. Plenty of bars and restaurants are nearby. The room was very cosy with a fireplace. Everything was very clean. Super friendly and helpful staff. I arrived at 8am and they let me stay in the parlour of their sister hotel till my earlier checkin, and they made the fireplace work for me. Simple breakfast, but there was something for everyone's taste: porridge, boiled eggs, cereal, toast, cake, fruit, orange juice, tea/coffee; all this in the lovely downstairs area with two fireplaces. And my favourite: the complimentary glass of wine with nibbles in the evening!

These are really details: It wasn't possible to make the fireplace work without the staff. There was no kettle in the room: I like having a tea first& last thing of the day, so I had to go downstairs to get some hot water.

The room had a fireplace which was needed since it was chilly most of the time in the room. The breakfast (next door) was good but wish we didn't have to walk outside to get it. The ambience was nice in the hotel and the staff were friendly. It was good to have coffee, tea, and hot water available downstairs all the time.

When using the provided space heater, I could not turn any lights on or the power would go out (this was room #54) and I had to call the front desk to reset the circuit breaker. This happened 3 times before I realized it. It also would have been helpful to have a desk for work and a hot pot in the room so we don't have to go downstairs always for tea or coffee.
