The atmosphere, the setting, the gardens and communal rooms - all were charming and comfortable. The staff were extremely polite and friendly, and very helpful. The delicious snacks and wine before dinner were an unexpected bonus that we greatly appreciated. Plus the cold lemonade during the day. Amazing!

There was no granola available at breakfast despite being on the menu - but that's a minor complaint.

My dear friend of 45 years and I spent a few days at The Simpson House Inn to relax and catch up. It was the perfect place! The house is warm and inviting. We spent hours talking in front of the fire place, while drinking tea. The wine and hors d’oeuvres hour was wonderful! The gardens are beautiful. The breakfast delicious. The location was great, as we walked to excellent dinners only ten minutes away. The staff was nice.

There needs to be better signage for the bathroom on the first floor (as the bathroom is outside around the side of the house.). My friend and I arrived around 11:30 am, and understandably waited a few hours while our room was getting ready. We had a difficult time finding the restroom. Also, it was not easy to locate the staff upon arrival, as they are behind a closed door with a small bell that needs to bring rung in order to alert them to our presence.

A beautiful property close to the main centre but wonderfully tranquil. I stayed in the sun room and although the room was a little small, it was tasteful decorated, with a wonderful large sun deck. Excellent breakfast on the veranda and superb hors d’hoeuvres with wine late afternoon. An exceptional escape hotel.

~ Beautiful and historic rooms in keeping with the house. ~ stunning gardens surrounding the property ~ Breakfast was fantastic - a 3 course meal with the main meal something different each day, cooked perfectly alongside fantastic service! ~ Lovely warm scones and cookies served in the afternoon and evening. ~ Complete with fantastic hour d’oeuvres served early evening which varied each day and all delicious ~ turn down service each night ~ relaxing place, quiet and peaceful ~ one of the best hotels in California!!

Attentive, kind, and accommodating staff who personally greeted us @ our car upon arrival! Beautiful setting with various sitting areas throughout the garden. Delicious breakfast, generous appetizers, free flowing beverages, yummy cookies.

Our room: Although the pillows were comfy enough, the bed was not. They offer room service for breakfast, which we would've wanted, but the dining area in our room was uncomfortable: The heavy, non-dining room chairs were awkwardly positioned at an angle relative to the table. Not a deal-breaker. We would stay again but request the most comfy bed they had.

The property is absolutely stunning. Both the interior and exterior are very well appointed and clean. The staff is out of this world, making sure every aspect of your stay is better than expected. We had the pleasure of meeting Frank, who taught us all about the property and Santa Barbara. His charm, attitude, and knowledge made our California trip unforgettable. The cocktail hour was set up picture perfect, with amazing food, and even better local wine. The breakfast was also very well done. We had a few choices to pick from, all of which were delicious. Our server, Zule, made the experience that much better! Thanks again to the staff for enhancing our experience, we will be back soon!!!

Wonderful hotel, good location, breakfast and afternoon buffet delicious, calm and serene gardens. The staff were polite and friendly. Overall a great place to stay when visiting Santa Barbara.

The two rooms we stayed in were rather dark and small. The room above the kitchen can be noisy in the mornings and the smell of breakfast cooking wafts up into the room. We had a sneaky peak at another room which was brighter and larger so if budget allows book one of the bigger rooms as it’s a wonderful place to stay.

Victorian home in perfect tasteful, and comfortable condition. Fabulously warm and welcoming Sraff/Atmosphere. A unique asset. Beautiful place. Gorgeous very Live In gardens to enjoy all day and evening Sumptuous hors d'oeuvre and wine every day at 5:30pm MOST of the rooms spacious, tastefull, and comfortable Quiet, good beds, good shower, amenities. Tea/coffee & cookies available 24/7 Central location, walk to State Street. Nice breakfast. Service, variety, beautifully presented in public rooms or on the veranda.

So odd that the service charge was extra for the included breakfast !! 2 of the rooms, (unfortunately mine was one of these), are at the back of the house, are former maids rooms, and are TINY, LIKE 8' X 10' !! Impossible for a couple. Mine, the Katherine McCormick room, with large shower but teeny weeny sink, was.directly over the kitchen where they began chopping veggies at 6:00am. Thank God I'm an early riser and this wasn't a problem for me. But these 2 rooms should NOT be rented to the public, certainly not without a clear and strong notification as to their peculiar nature, which I definitely did not see on Booking.com

Simpson House Inn is gorgeous. All of the house's common rooms are beautifully decorated consistent with its 1874 origins. The gardens and grounds are maintained well and were very inviting with lots of places to sit and cozy corners to get away from it all. Our guest room was fairly small but perfect for our short visit. The breakfast was delicious and bountiful and the staff was exceptional. Thank you!

Everything about the inn was delightful. The best way to describe it is an oasis within the city. It’s almost as you are transported to the countryside. The room was quaint, but had everything we needed for a one night stay. The appetizers and wine in the evening were a nice surprise, and breakfast was made even better by sitting on the porch. If you don’t mind walking, highly recommend walking down State Street all the way to the beach.
