I've stayed at the River Inn many times over a period of several years and have always had good experiences there. It is ideally located for my purposes, on a quiet, leafy side-street a short walk to a Metro stop. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are light, large, and comfortable, and having a kitchenette is a great convenience. I expect to stay there again and always look forward to it.

It's great to have the kitchenette but some items that would be useful are missing (though they can be requested at the reception desk) and the kitchens are in need of a makeover. Steps coming in to the below-grade building entrance are a bit awkward when wrangling luggage.

The staff were very friendly and efficient. We were very tired after travelling 6 days by road from New Orleans. Brandie, on reception, made the check-in process for our four rooms such a delight! Nothing was a problem and she even laughed politely at our bad dad jokes. The location is perfect for visiting the city. Mid way between Georgetown and the Mall. Less than $10 for an UBER to most places. 10 to 20 minutes walk will also get you to most of the important attractions and lots of restaurants within easy reach. Very safe area. Handy to have a small bar and restaurant on the premises. Rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The windows opened which is a bonus for me as I like fresh air at night. I booked for a group of 4 friends and it was a little more expensive than we would have liked but everyone was happy with the result.

Nothing really stands out.

This hotel was surprisingly pleasant. Upon arrival, Brandi at reception provided excellent hospitality and made our family feel welcome. The doorman, Mr. B, was quick to help us unload our luggage, get it up to our room, and even helped my husband secure a parking spot near the hotel. The room was extremely spacious and had very comfy beds. I would definitely stay here again.

The room was a little outdated and could use some remodeling. While I would consider the room clean, the floors weren't as clean as I would have liked. (I have two infant crawlers so my standards are a little higher in that department).

Great location, huge room, excellent job from house keeping! Great that there was a large desk as I was travelling for work. I found the breakfasts in the Washington expensive compared to London, so it was great that this room had a kitchen so I could make my own breakfast (Trader Joe's was just a 5 min walk to buy groceries). House keeping were very thorough in tidying and cleaning my room. It was relaxing yo come back to such a nicely made up room each day.

The view in the photo on booking.com of the river is actually from a more expensive room at the end of the hotel. My room had a view over buildings, though it was still nice to have a view.

Very nice neighbourhood (Foggy Bottom), just 10 minutes away from the White House, close to metro station. Our room was spacious, with a small kitchen, very comfy bed. Pleasant and friendly reception staff.

Travel plug adapter would be a great advantage for travellers from Europe. It took us a couple of days until we found where to buy it, it would be grateful if the hotel could borrow it for those who are i need. And it was a little but strange that they asked if we would need a cleaning service during our stay - we would expect that 4star hotel should clean rooms every day without asking.

Plenty of warm water for showers, depending on the time of day (evening best); Ease of ingress at elevator and consistent doorlock access, heating of the room to ward off the chill in March; EXCELLENT help from Brandi at the Front Desk (above and beyond with help for finding walking sports shoes in Georgetown, places to walk to on Capital Hill and environs, laundry soap and water) and Saif at the Front Portal (suggestions regarding the area and meaningful conversation)

Control of excess heating in the room. Although one could "cool" the room setting (theoretically) to 60 degrees F, the only way to really cool 83 degrees F (default upon entry! after a long day out) down to around 70 degrees overnight was to shut the unit down completely to get a good night's sleep. The Eco Bracketing simply cannot be reduced below 68 degrees! Also need an instruction manual; we preferred about 74 degrees F upon entry from the outside, and then reducing to 65 degrees F at night.

This hotel surprised me in a good way. Very basic from the outside -- appears like a converted apartment building -- yet inside the rooms are very big and well equipped. Kitchen was nice with a full refrigerator. Staff are very nice and the equipment in the gym is very new and modern. Coffee in the lobby each morning was a very nice touch. Wifi was strong and reliable.

I did not love the pillows on the bed and could not really find one that suited me. The heating/cooling system is also quite old and needs to be upgraded. It was hard to maintain consistency with the temperature in the room.

The reception staff and conceirge were the friendliest we had on this trip to USA. The room was clean and comfortable, and there is a little restaurant attached to the hotel that is open for breakfast every day and for bar/ dinner from 4pm on Tues to Sat evenings. Menu for dinner looks good, we however only had breakfast. The location is good, once you get your bearings you're near a nice little neighbourhood (with shops and eateries ) and walk along the river, and a couple of restaurants on the way to the centre (Penn Ave towards the White House) and walk easily to the White House and a little further to Congress, Smithsonian etc. But also have Foggy Bottom metro v near and can take the metro wherever.

The rooms have been decorated recently which is very good and they are well done, but the hotel does need some further renovation on fixtures and fittings in places. Essentially it's a great decoration but hides some old underpinning fittings and I guess these will need replaced soon ? The material used for the hotel doors is MDF I think and you know its a great decor job on some lower quality fixtures. However it does the job and is decent. The kitchens are clean, (we had 2 rooms as had a break and went on another trip), and have what we needed, decent fridge and could make a coffee. The coffee machines in both we couldn't work, so we used the hob and instant or the microwave to heat the water.

A friendly staff greeted us and helped us get settled in our spacious room. The location is perfect for visiting Washington. One can walk to Georgetown, the White House, Kennedy Center, State Dept plus It is between Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. The metro is a 7 minute walk plus buses are everywhere.

We have travelled extensively for long periods of time and I would put the River Inn at the top of our “favorite places list”.We stayed for a week and in my opinion there was everything to like about this property and nothing to dislike. I use a rolling walker and had no trouble at all navigating the property. We couldn’t have chosen any better.

The River Inn is close to the Kennedy Center where we were going for an evening performance. Plus! There is a very good restaurant housed within the hotel building. The people that work there are so friendly and very good at what they do which makes traveling (to me) so much fun! The hotel was clean and smelled good.

It would be great if parking was cheaper, but as far as the property goes, I liked everything. It’s an old building, but it feels so solid and I love some of those features you get in an older building.
