Wanderers Retreat

Great location away from the busy areas, walking distance to beach. Quiet peaceful location surrounded by nature. Quick drive to Nelson Bay or Shoal Bay and discovered Boat Harbour and sat and watched the whales and dolphins.

rooms are clean but they are probably due for a deep clean soon. The property next door (oasis?) guy was out on his blower very early in the morning disturbing the peace. Was nice to have the option to check out at 11 but i ended up leaving earlier because of this.

The retreat was beautiful. It is set in a gorgeous rainforest setting. It’s very quiet and you can hear the birds and other wildlife. Very relaxing. The cabin itself was nice and comfortable and very warm with the aircon. The beds were comfortable and the shower was lovely. The staff were also friendly and welcoming. It’s also very close to the beach and a cafe up the road which serves great food. Will definitely be back. This place is great if you feel like being amongst nature and want to relax.

Barry and Vivienne our hosts have been incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic, close to the beach and shops. Lodge is neat and clean, cosy with all the necessary kitchen appliances to make food for our toddlers, and bathroom is equipped with towels and toiletries. Perfect lodge for a family, highly recommend!

Maybe could add a few more hooks in the bedrooms to hang towels, jackets and clothes.

I luv the beautiful grounds and timber look cottages, and distanced well enough apart for privacy. The Spa tub was great, totally enjoyed relaxing in there. Just a short walk to One Mile Beach which was absolutley beautiful on the day and just a short drive up to Anna Bay Shops for all conveniences such as a Pharmacy, Supermarket and a Tavern etc.

Due to the moist weather we had around the time of my visit, the Cottage did have a slight musty smell about it,.. Which I understand in these conditions... Although I did noticed the Blinds in the Lounge area, kitchen and 2nd bedroom had mould on the surface of them. Which I fully understand is difficult to control in these conditions athough replaceing them would be the Best Solution so guests don't have to see.

Little cabin surrounded by trees. Very short walk to beach, sand dunes and bush. Extremely friendly and helpful owners. Well stocked kitchen (cutlery, repellent) & bbq on deck. Very peaceful and quite. Now for the pit toilet.... we were dubious BUT looks like a real toilet, very clean and minimal smell if any. Do not let this put you off such a great relaxing and friendly place to stay.

Nothing to complain about just remember to close fly screens as mosquitoes a plenty but again the accommodation does provide repellent. Also no food, groceries or wine for on the deck within walking distance except beach cafe so pre plan and stock up or go for a quick drive.

Tucked away in the bush so you really feel like it’s a retreat, and visits from possums and kookaburras made this magical for my kids. the cabin is clean and has everything you could need, with the internal spa being a wonderful added touch…amazing bathroom! Having privacy from the kids was great as well. Vivian (owner and host) was simply wonderful.

it was a bit tight for us and three kids, but I think you would expect that from a holiday cabin. It may be a little expensive, but if you value peace and calm, then it’s worth every cent.

We have stayed before and my kids loved it! My son requested to stay here again. Amazing staff! The lady/owner (I assume) even looked up our last visit and said that’s where you stayed last time. She was amazing with my son… even this morning she came and asked my son how his night was and remembered him from check in. Totally perfect service

I couldn't make both sides of spa work and it had ants in the pipes so ended up with ants in spa. Owner reports it did work (so maybe user error) and they flushed the system after I left so hopefully no problems for future guests.. Possums in boxes is nice touch but scratching at night not so good 😞

Hosts were lovely. The hot tub was great ( could have been hotter). Space was ok but very small and not suitable for more than 4 people really. Could not imagine having a big family in there. Drop eco toilet did not smell at all. Dishwasher in kitchen. Air conditioner worked well but was very loud.

The kitchen garbage bin didn't open and was very old, needed updating for the cost. Cobwebs in the bathroom, holes and pen marks on the walls. The hot tub was drained before we left, eliminating the chance to have one last dip before we left. No hand soap in the kitchen nor paper towels. Shower head was one of those terrible 'rainfall ones not made for people who don't want to get their hair wet every shower. Not really worth $450 for 2 nights. Needs an upgrade really for that price. Sheets were clean but noisy. Only a small metal framed hanging space in main bedroom No cupboard for clothes and a very tiny one is second bedroom.

Both myself and my friend were unimpressed with the male owner, who was far from friendly and keen to get rid of us at 10.05 am on the last day. We had genuinely misunderstood the written information and thought we had a 12 midday checkout. He could have been more customer friendly. His partner was very nice
