Ramada Resort by Wyndham Shoal Bay

My husband and I, (both in our 80's) booked a ground floor studio suite. When we arrived we found that there were several lots of steps to encounter to access the room. The attendant (Isaac) who was helping us with luggage, realised we were having trouble with the steps, went away and came back and gave us an upgrade on room, and we were transferred to a suite on the second floor, with a lift to access, and with a view to the Bay. That was excellent. Thank you Isaac.

Our only comment here is that we didn't have time to enjoy the area more fully, nothing to do with the accommodation

The room was sensational:spacious, beautifully appointed, fully equipped kitchen, large balcony with chaise lounges. View to the water. It was very quiet, access to lifts. Located opposite a lovely beach, with all the wonderful restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Walking trails everywhere and only a short distance to the Tomaree Head walks (although the summit was closed for works). There was an indoor and outdoor pool and a gym, but we didn't even sight them because we had so much else to do.

The only slight drawback was the car park was located in a separate building, which meant many trips to the car to get what we needed. However, not a big deal; it wasn't far, and the security with card access only was wonderful.

Our three bedroom, two bathroom self contained apartment was huge. It was bright and airy with a spacious, furnished veranda. The view was amazing. Everything was within walking distance and accessible for my elderly father. The resort offered 2 outdoor pools and an indoor heated lap pool with spas. We enjoyed having a drink at the club with lovely views and seafood chowder from the local fish and chip shop. The staff were very accommodating. The air conditioning in our apartment wasn't working but the heaters were very efficient and we decided to stay in the apartment rather than move to another which was offered to us.

The very large kitchen had everything you needed as far as cooking utensils, plates, cups, glasses etc but only one small fry pan and an open grill on the bbq. When I mentioned this to the staff on checkout they were very apologetic and said that they had only just taken over the unit and would look into it. We ate out each night so it wasn't a problem for us and I'm sure they would have provided pots and pans if we had asked.

your pillows are pretty crap lol, a few more options would have been great. Also a few more seats on the veranda would have been amazing instead of dragging the dining seats around the bedroom side when trying to escape the wind, esp with a small table for nibbles. The only other thing that was a pain was that for the 6 of us staying in the unit, we had 2 dinner plates and hardly any kitchen stuff like knives for chopping veg, a pot for pasta etc- but i figure I could have called reception if we really needed anything, we just made do with side plates and bowls for our meals

Everything! Friendly staff, central location to everything. Beachfront room was amazing! Loved the spa

The parking space was a little tight - but it was good that the resort has it's own parking.

Location is amazing, right in the heart of Shoal bay. Staff were super accomodating - they upgraded our room for our anniversary and provided us chocolates in the room which was super lovely! Pool renovation is incredible.

My partner and I are both relatively tall - I’m 5’10 and he’s 6ft. The shower head in our room (211) was up to our chests so it was extremely hard to fully submerge under. I had to sit down to wash my hair which was very awkward. Only downside of the whole stay

The unit was modern,clean and comfortable with a separate bedroom and kitchen. We had a view of the water,which was unexpected. Nice balcony. And a spa bath ! The resort has a lovely heated, lap pool and spas. We could walk to restaurants for dinner- only a couple of doors down the road. The lovely beach is across the road.We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Shoal Bay has just enough services to have choice but not too much that you feel like you're in suburbia.

Although the kitchen had most things I would have liked a chopping board and a vegie peeler as I like to cook our breakfast

Breakfast was amazing ! Room was great . The pool needed some severe attention , the water was so cloudy I wasn’t even sure it was safe and to compensate there was so much chlorine in it our eyes watered the rest of the day . Glassware and dirty towels left everywhere and entitled guests leaving belongings on the loungers to ‘reserve ‘ them ( terrible etiquette!) when they weren’t even in the pool area . They need a pool attendant to keep control of the area especially in summer as while it’s a guest problem it’s the hotel’s responsibility to keep both guests and environment in check . Beachies next door seems to be the same establishment but they separate themselves from them in terms of management or so they say , and little wonder because it’s the worst run restaurant I’ve encountered for a long while . Stick to pelicans even with kids ! Or you will regret it . Loved the style of the hotel and the staff were great too :)

I stayed for a couple of nights back in November and enjoyed myself quite well. My experience started with parking out on the road and going to the reception area to better understand how things operate around here. A pleasant young lady explained to me that I was in one of the neighbouring blocks (on the 7th floor) and that my free parking space was numbered a few floors down in the multi story car park in the same block (3rd floor). All good. I was pleased to see that I had quite a large suite with fully fitted kitchen area. This contained a useful fridge/freezer, microwave, oven, crockery and cutlery. There was even dishwasher. And I appreciated the kettle with tea bags, sachets of ground instant coffee and a small carton of milk in the fridge. I even had a small balcony with two chairs and table with side view to the sea. I got the sun in the afternoon. In the "living room" area there was a two seater sofa and two arm chairs in front of a flat screen telly. The free WiFi worked without problems. There weren't many electrical sockets - something that the modern traveler notices quickly given the number of electrical appliances one seems to need nowadays. The air-conditioning worked well. There was a separate bedroom with a large, comfortable double bed but no window - just a sort of Japanese style screen as the door. There was also a separate bathroom with WC and a shower in the bath. All in all, everything that a solo male traveler would need for a couple of days exploring this part of the world. As for the rest of the hotel, I didn't explore anywhere else nor check out any of the other amenities/facilities like the pool. I was here to explore the surroundings including Tomaree Head, the beach and other interesting sights here. And the location of this establishment was perfect for all of that!

Well, it's not really a major dislike, but I did ask down at reception whether I could have a sun lounger on my balcony to take in the afternoon sun. I was politely told that this was not possible. Was my demand too excessive? Oh well...

Everything was beautiful! Outside pool was great & great indoor pool/spas on those gloomy days. The location was perfect, staff super friendly, deluxe spa suite was beautiful! Great water views too!

We originally booked the standard studio which is so far back from the main hotel, feels very claustrophobic in the rooms, very outdated furniture, small outdoor area was so dirty & we ended up getting a free upgrade to the deluxe spa suite as the standard studio had a bleach mixed with cleaning product smell, was awful & could not sleep inhaling that. If you want a nice stay do not book the standard studio.
