Salt @ South West Rocks

The apartment is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Check in was easy, albeit without any human contact. Hence no rating of staff. Didn't encounter any!

The location is great if you like to be remote from town center. Our preference is to be closer/walking distance to pubs, restaurants etc. However, I booked this knowing it was out of town - just didn't appreciate the distance! For the price we paid, I think a higher quality loo paper is warranted. Also, as there's no contact with onsite staff, there is absolutely no negotiation in terms of check in and check out times.

Salt consists of maybe a dozen self contained and well designed cabins. They are rather more upmarket than typical cabins in Australia, getting close to luxury standard. All cabins have a spectacular view of the Macleay River, about 2km upstream from the river outlet. From our balcony, we saw a very close pod of dolphins one morning. On arrival, access is contactless. On the morning of arrival, we received a text with instructions and the various PINs necessary. It sounded complicated but worked well. The pool was heated and good to swim in even in winter. There is a short but nice gravelled wetlands walk on site, and the grounds are well manicured.

Contactless check-in is one thing but during our entire 3 day stay, we saw no sign of any staff on site. Somehow, it feels better if you know there is someone nearby in case of difficulties. (We had no difficulties and all went well.) Salt is maybe 2-3 km out of downtown South West Rocks, but that distance is worth it for the relative solitude of the location.

I love the location. The villa was beautifully furnished & super clean! Loved everything!!!!

The large bins located opposite the villas smelt very bad. I had to keep my bedroom windows closed at night as the smell was unbearable. This was particularly uncomfortable because the bedrooms did not have air conditioning so a window being opened was the next best option. These bins were very full and covered in maggots & flies. It was the only part of my stay that I can say was not great.

The location was beautiful. It was away from the town and right on the river but that suited us. The whole property is quite new and extremely well maintained and the villa was well appointed with everything you could need and spotless! We went to the tavern for dinner which was right next door. Pub food. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back!

We didn’t have breakfast included. However we did have dinner at the Tavern next door. Food was good & staff friendly & obliging.

The swimming pool needs a rail for entry. Also Surface was slippery so the use of a hand rail to get in & out would have been beneficial. (Especially for older people).

B/Feast - N/A The Villa was clean and bright and well supplied with essentials. Access directions were easy to follow. we will be back for a longer stay.

It would have been helpful to know of restaurant / food suggestions as we arrived on a Monday night. Having the pub next door, we could imagine the noise in summer months would be dreadful.

Really lovely villa that was styled perfectly. Well equipped kitchen and great to have access to steaming services. The kangaroo grazing around the property was a real treat when sitting in the raised balcony.

The property was a little ‘shaky’. when the others were walking around the room the whole property shook. a little disconcerting. Nice view of the river but a little removed from the main town, it’s not far however.

Very nicely set up, quiet location, water front is less than 20mt from room, can sit and watch the sunset over the river from the balcony

The stairs were a little slippery when it rained, perhaps some grip tape would help, without ruining the beautifully finished timber steps

everything !!! it was pretty much perfect! had everything you would need, amazing views of the lake! all updated and modern cabin!

only thing that as a downfall was that 2 out of 4 towels were dirty on arrival. they had stains on them

We loved our stay at Salt. It was a nice little spot we had across the road from the river with a spectacular view. We spent our aftenoons on the balcony watching the water. Salt is located away from the busy busy little town centre of South West Rocks, there is a nice little tavern right next door and with all facilities on the premises for cooking, you really don't have to go anywhere if you chose not to. Highly recommend it, we had a contact free check in/check out and it was so easy.

The only issue we had which is beyond anyone's control was the weather, humid and raining so there were a few mosquitos around outside as the sun went down, but honestly that is anywhere on the coast with the type of weather we have been experiencing, it could have been a lot worse
