Stayed there only one night bc of our flight. Very relaxed atmosphere and personal. In the evening drinks are for free - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. It's a bit hidden, just go into the road that's rn in construction (as of January 2024). ADO bus stop 'ADO Tulum Ruinas' is 2 min away. Ruins of Tulum are 10 min walk. The main ADO stop in Tulum center is 40 min walk. Beach is 30 min walk. Super Aki 20 min walk. You can take by chance a colectivo there to central ADO stop (somewhat expensive).

Kitchen is a bit dirty, but that's rather the fault of visitors that leave it like that

This hostel is just amazing. They have a huge space with two swimming pools and a bar where they serve three drinks for free from 8pm to 10pm. Every guest staying there meet at the bar to get their free drinks and get to know each other. I made many friends there. The bartender (Pedro) is out of this world. Guy likes to talk about everything with anyone. Hes knows about politcs, fun facts and wherever you wanna talk. Also Raul from the front desk is really good guy and gives you all the attention you need whenever you want. Next year I´m staying at this hostel again. Amazing experience.

Excellent location. Easy walk to the ruins and the northern beaches. 20 minutes walk to the northern beaches (pay 60 pesos )! 20 minutes walk into tulum pueblo . The best bit was the amazing free cocktails every night between 8 and 10. Served by lovely staff. Firepit. We had some great chilled evenings here . Was a fantastic bonus .

The kitchen was grubby. Not enough mugs or crockery. Volunteers are free. We have just been to a hostel in Valladolid with lots of volunteers, super tidy and organised kitchen. Good signage. Really felt the free hostel needed at least a couple more volunteers to keep on top of the kitchen. And a cupboard full of mugs!

- The energy in the hostel was very nice. I felt that the people working there and the other guests were happy to share and spend time with each other, but at the same time you were able to get your alone time; - The hostel is located out of the crowded city center, but it’s literally next to the bus stop! And it’s in front of the way that brings you to the Mayan ruins/ beach; - The personnel is really helpful and ready to answer every question anytime, even late in the evening. There was a temporary water shortage when I was there (really common in Quintana Roo) and it was not only handled promptly, but we have been provided with bottled water for free for the inconvenience, which I appreciated. - The swimming pools!

There is only one main light in the room. It would be nice to have a table lamp for reading / relaxing :)

Very good environment, lots of travelers, and very good infrastructure. The hostel has lots of public areas where you can chill and enjoy the company of fellow travelers. The evenings near the fire and good cocktails were very good. The location is close to the archeological area and near the beach which is also very good.

The location is a bit far from the hotel area in the main beaches and clubs of Tulum. It requires taking a public combi to the center and then another to the main beaches and clubs. But for this affordable price, I was happy to do the commute, public transport to downtown was good.

The hostel is a wonderful place to meet new people and have a good time at the pools and bars. I especially loved the bar staff and the fun happy hours at the bar. The price is awesome for Tulum!

Someone took my sneakers from the pool area. I know, there isn't a lot the host could do about that, but they weren't of any help at all. They just shrugged it off as my problem. The location of the hostel is a bit far out. You can easily walk to the beach and ruins, but Tulum center is a little more hard to reach.

We loved our stay at the hostel, the fire place caused travelers to join eachothers company. We made friends and even traveled together. There are quit evenings and also parties organised by the travelers. The beach and shops are on walking distance. Drinking water and Coffee for free, good food for a decent price. Enjoy your stay!

The night we arrived we got a private room right behind the bar. The music was loud untill 5 am. It was only for that night.

I rarely leave reviews. However, I have to say thank you soooo much to Raul. I left my bag inside the Ado bus and it took off! Doh. Raul, the manager, came down to the station to help me communicate with the terminal managers. He also drove me back to pick up my bag when it returned. They also let me move my dates, and were extremely communicative via the Booking.com chat. The support staff was very friendly, and extremely helpful. The main attendant walked me to a local taco place at night to get food and helped me get my laundry done. They also changed out my shower head. I can not say enough about how helpful the team was here. They went out of their way to accomodate and help me. Raul recommended I go to the Jardin Del Eden cenote, which was absolutely beautiful. This is located at the entrance to the national park at the Archeological ruins. You have to cross the highway, which is easy enough since drivers stop and allow you to go through surprisingly. Then you walk 20 minutes through a tourist area (yes there is a 711 and Starbucks) and through the jungle to the beach. Then you can access cool beachfront hotels like Hotel Ikal (there is a yoga shala).

I'm not going to lie - I was a bit skeptical about staying at a hostel as a woman, but I put faith in booking a private room in one of the only reasonably priced places in Tulum. I am SO grateful that I did, because staying at the Free Hostel truly elevated our experience in Tulum. The staff had great recommendations for local food, salsa dancing, and tours. I visited during off-season, and they accommodated us with a cheap private tour to Coba and the underground cave cenotes. The whole facility is absolutely stunning - they have a firepit, beautiful decorations, a pool, hammocks, and reading nooks. It is also well-maintained and clean. I stayed in the king bedroom and it was a huge room with a nice bathroom. I would absolutely recommend staying here to anyone who wants a more down-to-earth, less touristy and cheaper hotel option. Few updates to the facility (from Feb 2023) - They have a FREE private shuttle that will take you to Tulum center, cenotes, and other sites. The staff and driver are super flexible and friendly. - They converted most of their rooms to private rooms during COVID. We felt very safe (two 20yo girls) staying in their private room. - They have a cafe that offers breakfast for a decent price.

I do wish they had a coffee machine instead of instant coffee, but there are tons of coffee shops in town. Also, if you are checking in late at night, I would contact the owner beforehand to give them a heads-up.

There was no restaurant available. We used the kitchen, which was quiet nice. There was drinking water and a food donation box.

We were promised a message about if we get money back for the cancellation. The message never came, neither any money. To get to the beach you have to pay! The personell (of the beach area) was unfriendly. You even need to pay for the ruin close to the hostel. Very US-American flair and not friendly but money-based. Military was present.
