Hotel Dwars

The room was absolutely beautiful and even though I don't think we saw anyone from the hotel during our stay, they had provided lots of helpful info (transfers from airport etc) which were greatly appreciated!

Not that we had a massive issue, but the stairs were quite steep and more difficult to get down than up. However, we quite liked the stairs and the character of the hotel. When all said and done - it's part of the structure of the place! But if you aren't too steady on your feet or otherwise struggle getting up and down stairs - there were lower level rooms available so would perhaps suggest maybe requesting if one of those are available. Again, this wasn't a complaint - it's just a good to know if you are booking!

The hotel is so centrally located that you just need to plan well and go on foot almost everywhere. It has so many nice bars and restaurants around, which is so convenient. The lady at the reception is super super helpful, kind and patience. Special thanks to her for assisting us with booking our visits to museums.

The shower' drainage was poor and water would come out in the bathroom. A bit annoying.

The receptionists were friendly and helpful!! Always there to offer a help when needed. Lovely and clean room, nice view and heat under tiles in the bathroom which is amazing feeling after a shower! Enjoyed the staying there!! We had coffee and tea every morning!!

The pillows were very big and not so comfortable.😕 I would preferred if was a small fridge so you can put your water and food-snacks. As when you wake up in the morning you want to eat something and you have to go out for breakfast, but I was aware that wasn’t in the room when I booked so that’s fine. The room wasn’t ready when we arrived as they said they weren’t expecting us at that time we arrived , they messed up with the time but they understood straightforward and they were kind,friendly and helpful so we had to leave the luggages at the hotel, we went for a waking for 20 minutes and when we arrived back the luggages were upstairs in the room already.

Really clean, warm and nicely decorated room. The hotel was easy to get to, only a 10 minute tram from Central Station and located in a really nice area with lots of restaurants. Check-in was easy and receptionist very friendly. They provided umbrellas and a luggage locker which was helpful. Would definitely recommend for a short stay in Amsterdam!

We saw previous reviews saying to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper as the hotel can be noisy. It wasn't as loud as I expected but I did use earplugs as guests were noisy going up and down the stairs. Beds aren't the comfiest but fine for a short stay. We would have liked there to be a safe in the room for valuables but not the end of the world.

Location is perfect, lovely quiet corner in central Amsterdam between canals, near bars and restaurants but without the noise. Nice touches like coffee machine and umbrellas (which we needed!) and really nice room decor. Lady running the hotel was easygoing and professional, and let us know when our room was ready earlier. Not cheap but nor is Amsterdam!

Bed mattresses were too soft - otherwise, the room was small but lovely. There was a noisy family on the stairs at 630am, but that could happen anywhere.

The room was super cute and well appointed! Although the room is small, it's typical for row homes in the Netherlands but I did not feel cramped. I only had a small suitcase, so this likely helped the situation! Area of town was nice and I easily accessed everywhere I wanted to go via the tram, metro, or on foot. Air conditioning worked well, which was needed as there was a heat wave while I was there. Liked having the Nespresso coffee machine in the room and the shower/soap amenities smelled great!

The steps and narrow staircase can be a challenge for those with mobility issues. Would recommend requesting a low floor if you have these issues. There was no real instructions for how to access the property when I arrived and there was no staff around. I had to call the phone number - turns out the staff member was just next door.

Hotel Dwars has such character and excellent, modern fittings in the bathrooms. Our room facing the back was quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable. We had two rooms on the same floor which was very convenient. Location is great. It is off a main road so is in a quiet street, but there are shops, restaurants and coffee shops close by.

The stairs are steep and there is no lift. We didn't mind but elderly people may struggle. The front room can be noisy in the evening as there is a bar/restaurant on the street corner, but our children stayed in this room and loved the street sounds from below. So there are rooms to suit everyone.

Dwars is a small hotel in a great location in old Amsterdam. Our room was very attractive and stylish, with a double bed for my wife and I and a single for our daughter. Not large, but big enough to station our luggage and move around. Very clean and bright with big windows, a Nespresso machine happily resupplied by the staff. The hotel was massively renovated not too many years ago, and the room feels new and satisfies with simple sophistication. Attractive modern bathroom. The staff were great, very helpful, insisting on helping us with our luggage up the very narrow staircase. Make sure to ask them to call you a taxi to the airport, they get a good deal with a great driver and his Mercedes. They'll also refer you to Captain Jack's canal cruise, which is surely the most fun. No breakfast on site, but they have a deal for a discount with a cafe down the street. Great pancakes and lattes.

The very narrow staircase, typical of old Amsterdam houses, which apparently used to be taxed by the width of the building. We had to climb up 3 flights, and that was very tricky, especially with luggage, but if you're in normal shape, you feel you are experiencing Amsterdam history with every trip, and your room feels like a welcome reward. Our room was on the street side, and a small but festive pub down the street was pretty noisy with the windows open. But when we closed the windows and used the quiet air conditioner, it was much better. Rooms in the back of the building likely would be very quiet.

book this hotel! as a self proclaimed hotel snob, this hit all the marks for me. great service, clean, beautiful rooms. the staff was kind and accommodating. I even told them I was pregnant and that I loved the Tony chocolate. when we returned to our room, they had left a full box for us. very sweet and made our trip extra special!

The place is easy to find, from Sloterdijk station, we took a Tram and get off at Frederiksplein and walk through Utrechtsestraat street. The room is quite small but still good for 2 persons. The decors is also nice and simple. Bed is comfortable, bathroom is clean. They provide 2 large towels. Shampoo and shower gel. Coffee & Tea aswell.

The stairs until 3rd floor is very narrow, having a large suitcase to carry up is not very easy.
