Hotel Lion D'Or

We booked a family (quadruple) room for our family vacation to the Netherlands. Our room had a balcony and a bathtub, which were both pleasant surprises. The beds were decently comfortable and the room had plenty of storage for a family of 4 to unpack. Our particular room was towards the back of the hotel and was situated such that we had no neighbors. Our door opened to the lift, but we didn't hear it at all. Breakfast is pretty basic, but has a good selection of items to choose from. Staff were polite and generally friendly. Overall the hotel was clean and felt really nice. The location is perfect! Being able to walk out the front door and catch a train or bus was SO convenient. This made it easy for us to use Haarlem as our base of operations for our whole vacation.

The refrigerator in our room did not work and was not able to be fixed after reporting to the front desk. That limited our options for grocery shopping and stocking our room. As another reviewer noted, the rooms can get warm and stuffy. There are heaters, but no air conditioning. We had to sleep every night with windows and/or the door to our balcony open. Since we were situated in the back of the hotel that was no problem, but I could see rooms towards the front of the hotel having problems doing that due to noise.

We liked everything. We are a family of 4, the room was large, beautiful and so comfortable. The staff was very professional and we could benefit from early check-in as we arrived tired after one night spent in the train. The breakfast was fantastic (fresh orange juice, fresh fruits salad, salmon, cheese, delicious small breads, pancakes, …, everything you can wish). During the day and evening you can rest in the breakfast room, which is also a kind of living room. You can also eat there in the evening (some snacks like pizza, chicken wings, soups,…) or just have a drink. You can also go there just to read or rest. The hotel is very close to the train station, 3 minutes away, but no noise and very convenient to go everywhere (Amsterdam, the fields of tulips in Lisse. Etc…). Also the centre of Haarlem is very close, it is like being in the centre and Haarlem is a very nice city.

We liked everything. The hotel is perfect.

Lovely selection of hot and cold food for breakfast, dining room open and airy, looking out onto the square, it had door opening onto the pavement and seats outside on the pavement. Bedroom and bathroom was clean and fresh with airconditioning. Tea and coffee in bedroom. Can get a drink in the ecening at the bar. Very close to bus and train station and next door to a very reasonably priced cycle hire. -12euros a day. We were able to visit amsterdam and the coast with ease. Harlaam has lots of historic and interesting sites to sea and not far is the wilderness area with deer and other wildlife.

There was nothing we didnt like, if we required anything such as a mug for our tea in our bedroom, or a change of towels we just asked.

Rooms are comfy, though many doubles are often just two singles next to each other. The Bathrooms are lovely, large wetrooms with lots of space to move around. Views of the Square in Haarlem are nice if you get a view that is facing it.

The cleaning staff seem to be lacking, though not in abundance. Unfortunately they seem to lack the basic skills of cleaning mirrors, refilling toilet paper and replacing dirty sheets. When they did replace my sheets one night, they replaced it with one that both stains and rips...

The location so near the beautiful Haarlem Central Station made it an ideal home base for visiting other nearby cities and the beach! Also, the room was extremely quiet for being in such a busy area. I also loved that they had a room with a bath tub! But most importantly, all the staff were friendly and helpful. Twice I needed their help, once to figure out how to use the air conditioning and then again the in room safe and as soon as I asked, they walked me up to my room and showed me. They were never too busy to help!

I can't think of a thing that could've been better! The've thought of everything!

We decided to stay in Haarlem as it was more affordable than central Amsterdam and was a quick train ride away. What a pleasant surprise in a number of ways: the hotel is across the road from the train station. I mean, literally a stones throw away. Usually near train stations the area can be seedy. Not here. Haarlem is clean and safe and charming. The front desk allowed us to check in a couple hours early, which was so helpful and appreciated. The room was clean and cozy. The bathroom was updated and had a great shower. The city center is right down the road; lots of nice restaurants to choose from. There is also a great cafe next door to the property. Highly recommend this hotel.

Wonderful room, modern bathroom, homelike lounge, and fantastic breakfast array in beautiful dining room. Beds were cozy with lovely comforters. The location near the train station made it easy to " commute" by 20 minute train ride to visit Amsterdam, a quick 30 minute ride to Hague, as well as a 40 minute trip to Delft. It always was calming to return each evening to Lion D'or to take a quick rest and then stroll the inviting streets of Haarlem and enjoy dinner at one of the many nearby restaurants and cafes.

This was my second time visiting Haarlem and I chose the Hotel Lion D'Or for its location. It was perfectly located for what I had planned for the weekend - a short minute walk from the train station, bus stop to Keukenhof and airport, and a short distance to the city centre. Check in and check out were very efficient which was much appreciated as I arrived late night. Had a comfortable stay in the room and found the room/bathroom amenities great.

My stay was only two nights so there is nothing much to call out. My room was fairly small but I barely spent time in the room so that did not bother me much.

The generous and varied breakfast options. The decor. The size of the room. How quiet the hotel is. How clean the hotel is. The superb customer service. Great location to explore from: bus station across the street and the train station adjacent to this. Historic Haarlem is a pretty city to explore, it has beautiful architecture, great restaurants, bars, shops and a lovely Saturday market.

Nothing to dislike, everything about the hotel and the service exceeded expectations.

Breakfast was great. Staff was extremely helpful, suggesting restaurants, helping with getting my laundry done. The location next to the train station and ten minutes walk into the town was super. The electric plugs were conveniently placed next to the bed.

The room was tiny. Thank goodness there was only one of me! No closet or drawers to store clothes. The key card kept getting demagnetized, forcing me to go back to the desk to have it repaired. Bathroom mirror was too high for guest who as 5’2”, and there was no makeup mirror.
