Great location and helpful staff on check in

Was a bit surprised to find the hotel wasn't manned in the evenings and we worried about locking ourselves out of our room. It would have been nice to have a manned bar area to have a drink - the downstairs arrangements and opening times were a little quirky and hard to fathom! Given that there was no room service, a small fridge in the room would have been a good addition to keep milk for tea/coffee etc.

The whole of the hotel interior and décor was fabulous. The furnishings had been fully thought out. We were told that it was all done by the owner's wife - so great compliments to her also. The bedding was of excellent quality. Excellent bathroom and shower with, again, excellent quality of towels. The toiletries in the bathroom were also of good quality. Could not fault the hotel!!

We would have liked a fridge in the room. The cleaning of the room was also somewhat lacking with the bed not being made, washing up of cups/glasses not done/bins not being emptied/tea/coffee/sundries not being replenished or loo roll. Towels were also not replaced. I don't think the rooms were vacuumed or brushed either as we had sand on the floor on Sunday night and it was still there two days afterwards. This may have been due to a lack of cleaning staff but once we told the hotel personnel they immediately helped solve the situation.

The room was clean and comfortable, we liked how they decorated with jewel colours alongside the heritage elements as well as the beautiful downstairs restaurant/cafe areas. The lady at reception was lovely! Our room (207) was absolutely silent at night, I believe it’s a family room so this will be a benefit for those with young children.

A blind or frosting decal is needed in the toilet window of room 207 as there are windows outside able to look in. The gloss paint on the stairs feel very precarious going up and down, take extra care especially if carrying luggage or if it’s been raining.

This is a great property. Unique in its design and renovation. great colors and chandeliers. Even the staircases and way the room locations are labeled. Really liked it at MAF. Great find. oh- the staff is lovely. I only interacted with two members, primarily the young woman at the front desk but she was so friendly and helpful that I would assume the entire staff is as lovely. Our room was large and comfy. We slept very well. The bathroom is nice as well!

Nothing. We liked everything.

We only stayed for one night, but would definitely stay here again! The property was beautiful and the hotel was flanked by two restaurants(?) with charming and funky decor. The rooms were large and contained a comfy bed and very satisfying shower. The rooms were clean and quiet. The location is perfect, just off the main square in Haarlem

The reception is not open 24/7 so we arrived later in the night when reception was closed. However, the staff made sure we were able to enter the hotel and our room via a lock box and it was very easy and safe.

If you're looking for an unusual hotel experience with imaginative and eclectic interior design, great food and magnificent ambience, this hotel is for you. A 17th century building has been skilfully and artistically refurbished in an individual way to create lovely common areas and very large bedrooms. The location is superb close to the centre of Haarlem and it is ideal for a weekend break.

As with any new refurbishment of a very old building, there were some noise and functional issues eg sliding doors getting stuck, but these were very minor irritants given the general splendour of the place.

The room was absolutely fantastic. so spacious and clean. uses movement sensors to manage the lights. the bathroom was a treat. the decor and design is different to a lot of hotels but in a pleasant way. A wonderful stay.

We couldn’t figure out how to turn off the lights. so we slept through with some lights on. wasn’t too annoying eventually. the stairs were narrow in some parts leading to the room but this seems to be a problem in a lot of Dutch building so this wasn’t exactly a unique problem. the room was definitely on a little pricier side but it’s in the center of Haarlem, not too surprising again!

Fantastic design and aesthetic inside. Warm and welcoming. Large oversized bed, deep bathtub and separate shower. enough room to unpack and even get some business done. Room had lovely table, separate coffee area and still an armoire to unpack clothes. Also large oversized towels didn't make me miss bathrobes one bit. Will return again and stay longer next time.

Another selection of bed pillows would have been nice option. The ones on the bed were quite firm. Not ideal for side or stomach sleeper. Original Room was not ready upon arrival, but it seemed there was a minor facility issue that was solved while we were away in afternoon, able to store luggage without issue. Upon return we were pleasantly surprised with a lovely new room and had assistance moving luggage. What may have been an inconvenience turned out to be wonderful guest service moment, kudos to the staff for their very professional handling of the matter.

Only one problem. When I entered the room late at night nobody had told me that the lights go on when the door closes. I opened the door and it was pitch dark. Could not find any light. The switches did not work. I did not dare to close the door since the light from the corridor was the only one I had. So I spent quite some time to look for light. All of a sudden the door closed and- sim sala bim - there was light. You had better instruct your guests about how it works.

The room was very nice and the staff friendly and helpful. The bed is comfortable and there is plenty of hot water with a good shower. They serve a very good breakfast. Haarlem is the perfect place to stay and plan day trips to Amsterdam, rent bikes and ride to the National Park and the North Sea. Many good dinner restaurants in Haarlem if you venture beyond the Grotte Martk.
