Surf 'N' Snow Backpackers

After reading the comments, I didn't want to book for many days so I booked just one night. I traveled around NZ and believe me this place is not as nasty as they say! I booked in a dorm, super bright, clean and very nice room mates. The shower water was always nice and hot. Staff were great, willing to help me, even the manager speaks three languages. I asked for a towel and proof of address at no cost. I found everything to cook in the kitchen and it's was clean. The common areas were always busy with people and it was easy to meet other travelers. My experience was not bad, I would book again in the future.

It was difficult for me to find the place because the street is closed, no place to park.

A budget-friendly accommodation situated in a prime location

There were a lot of barricades leading to the hotel due to the ongoing road construction at that time, which we didn't know about prior to booking (we're also partly at fault for not researching). Would have been a deciding factor when booking it because it can get creepy traversing specially late at night. Also, the bed is squeaking which made me very conscious to move. Despite that, I would be booking here again if there's no longer road construction going on.

This hostel is super super central! It’s perfect for a traveler wanting to fit lots in to their days. It’s a 1 minute walk to the sky tower, a few doors down to a supermarket, under 5 min walk to get to the quay, and a 2 min walk to Albert park! This place has very helpful staff and also sells lots of essentials at a low price (like razors, washing powder, and instant noodles!).

I stayed in a private room, the room wasn’t the most clean and didn’t have any windows or furniture (other than the bed) however, one can’t complain when you are on the doorstep of so many opportunities!

I like its low price and value for money, and the toilets and bathrooms on the second floor because they are all so clean and tidy!

I think the window vent is tiny in my room 209, and the curtain can only cover half (which makes two beds on one side basking in the sun during the afternoon) because if all the window is covered entirely, fresh air won't enter the room.

The hostel has everything you need and it´s location is the best in the city. Sky tower, AA centre, Supermarkets, Buses, Queen street and a huge variant of restaruant just a few steps away. Beds are comfortables and you have a box locker to place safe your belongings. The staff is also super nice and helpful and the place is full of backpackers all the time so you will get to make friends for sure.

Nothing important to make remarkable from my experience.

I got there 45 minutes after posted check in but someone checked me in, he was very nice. He put my bag in storage so I didn’t have to make noise when I went in the room. I left the next morning before many in my room were up so really can’t talk about the room, but the bathroom was clean. Bed was top bunk, but comfortable enough.

Later check in hours, 10 is too early to close. And I tried to call at 9:15 to see what I should do and no one answered the phone or replied to my message. Street looked a little sketchy but convenient.

Friendly new manager, WiFi had improved, the room on my last night was just right it had it's own shared clean bathroom. The place is as cheap as it gets. Will come back again to save money aside

Everything else was the same, average as it is. One tenant had some issues with the place & the noise of other people so Pablo got rid of him on his first night, good riddance. The other tenants & staff were all friendly. Get what u paid for or get gone. Take care y'all

it was in a really good location. rooms were as expected. bathrooms were alright. staff were very lovely and helpful

how hot the rooms with no windows were. I also had to change rooms partway through my stay and my first room came with a multi board (which was super helpful) while the second room didn’t. it’s very hard to keep devices charged when you have one plug to use between 2 peoples devices - the other plug was for the fan

Everything - staff are wonderful, friendly, and helpful. Location is great for food and venues as well as for getting to and from the airport. The room was as expected for what we paid for. Overall a really good place to stay for good value of money!

We didn't have a fan this time around which we definitely needed to cool down after our trek back to our room in the evening! But once we cooled down, the room was a good temperature.

The Surf n Snow has a super good location. You just have to walk down the street to get to the main shopping street. The hostel itself has very friendly and helpful staff. Also the wifi is very good and the beds don't squeak like in many other hostels I lived in. There is also an elevator so you don't have to carry your heavy luggage up the stairs. Especially for the price the hostel is really great!
