Cascades Lakefront Motel

The location was great, right by the lake and a stroll from the sailing club and a couple of restaurants. Great facilities - kayaks and bikes for hire, swimming and spa pool, and bbq area. We had a view of part of the lake, great outlook to look at while in the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This was a great place to stay.

The kitchen was a bit tight with a very awkward cupboard that my husband banged his head on. The furnishings need some upgrading which the motel is in the process of doing so it will only get better. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of tables, cushions, etc so overall a minor negative.

The staff were incredibly accommodating for all of our needs and went out of their way to help. We initially were poolside but realised the kids might struggle to sleep that close to all the noise - they quickly moved us to another more suitable room with no fuss. All staff were always smiling, pleasant and eager to help. The kiddie pool was a big plus for us parents. Mr. 4 and Ms. 2 could happily swim while parents watched on without having to swim ourselves. The lake is right there - so a trip to the beach is a saunter out of your room. Another plus for parents to tire out the little ones at a moments notice. The BBQ in the patio, with outdoor furniture and umbrella - winner winner steak and sausage dinner!! We loved the mezzanine floor as we could hear the kids in the night. Really enjoyed our stay.

Needs renovation and fix-ups - even just a fresh coat of paint and some caulk would do wonders!!

Staff were amazingly friendly the family loft was very very clean I was impressed the floors were squeaky here and there but it didn't bother us the loft was warm and we had air con so if it got too warm we had that handy they also had fans in all the rooms the teenagers loved they could look down at everyone downstairs and even tho you had your own privacy you could still be apart of the conversation without having to walk up and down stairs..the bathroom was awesome shower instant heat mirror nice and big so 2 teenage girls could do their make up at the same time main bedroom was amazing the bed loved it the space loved it more the wardrobe the chair it was all just what we needed on such a busy weekend.

Seating area was a little small for a family of 5 it's sleeps 6 but you all wouldn't fit in sitting are it's more for 3 small people but the dining area table and chairs was huge so we all piled up around that we were in taupo for family unveiling so naturally we had all our family coming to visit so it makes it a bit squishy we made it work😊also my dad came to ask reception for milk because the information booklet says if you need a milk they cost $2 a carton but the lady in office said no night help to take that off the book in the rooms.

The location was just amazing, absolutely lake front. We enjoyed early morning dips in the lake every day. We were a short walk to the two mile bay sailing club, and they have the best pizzas. The pool was great too. Not big, but just right for our young family.

The room we were in was a loft type room. The kids slept upstairs in a loft and there were peep holes from their room down to ours. Also, the steps were very very steep and not very wide, they felt slightly unsafe for our three year old. If you have older kids, this would not be a problem at all.

Taupo was a stop off from Auckland on our way to Wellington to drop my son off for University. The room and location were excellent right next to the lake. Short walk to a great eating spot at 2 Mile Bay Yacht Club. Comfortable room and would happily stay again. Parking immediately outside our room. Sadly due to our arrival time we did not get time to use the pool or other facilities on offer.

Everything was fine. Bathroom a bit tired but OK and functional, clean and good water pressure which were the main things and I would happily stay there again.

The hosts are very welcoming and my room had a partial lake view which I enjoyed. We chose to stay there as friends had their dog and the motel has some pet friendly rooms. We enjoyed the ability to step out straight onto the lakefront walkway and the Two Mile Bay Sailing Club was very handy to the motel and became a go to for pizza and refreshments. Whilst it isn't the newest motel complex in Taupo it is well maintained and clean. Would stay there again :)

You can walk into town from the motel but it is over 3km each way.

The staff were gracious and welcoming. Twice we forgot our keys in our room...not a flinch of irritation when asking to be let in. Handy location not too close to the Hussle and bustle of the City.

We are over 60 and have an elderly dog as well. Will know next time to book a ground floor room. Our dog is sickly and needs toileting 2 hourly...15 steps up and down became a bit tedious...probably good for our fitness levels. This is a personal issue and did not detract from a great stay.

Nice room, comfy bed, warm heat pump, all we needed for a one night stay on our way north.

I didn't like that we were charged an extra $20 on arrival because we had our little dog with us. He doesn't shed, has his own bed and is clean, so $20 for one night as a supposed extra cleaning fee was annoying to say the least. I wasn't able to operate the TV because the operating instructions were incorrect, had to ask for the proprietor to show me, which he did no problem but they may need to update the operating instructions for future patrons.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Even though NZ is becoming more pet friendly, choices are limited if you can’t leave your four footed family member at home. We find Cascades to be the best pet friendly motel in Taupo.

There was nothing we didn’t like, we just want to present an idea. As a dog owner the last thing to do before going to bed is to take the dog out. It would be great to have a little grassy area that is reserved and sign posted as dog toilet, lit at night and provided with degradable plastic bags.

Wonderful location next to the lake foreshore, no view but 30 metres to the lake ( a huge influence for me choosing this hotel in summertime ). Cosy, clean studio room with kitchenette. Very comfortable bed.

Bit late now but they could have insulated the upstairs floor better to protect from sounds of early risers with the TV on loud and a wicked cough... fortunately they moved out at 5.30am and it was peaceful the following morning.
