Sails on the Lake

We travelled for the Taupo ironman. The hotel was walking distance to the swim start, we could watch the full ironmen athletes on the run course from our balcony. It is an absolutely beautiful location, room was lovely, walking distance to the town and overall great value for money. Free laundry facilities and powder were provided, there was also daily house keeping. Staff were very friendly and they even had a cute little dog who would sometimes let you pat him. We had an amazing time here, the room was exactly what I needed to recover post 70.3 while still enjoying gorgeous views of the lake and mountains.

No complaints. I couldn't find a key drop box when we checked out early.

The view was amazing. Great views of the lake and mountains, will depend on what room you are in. Nice separate balconies and had a BBQ grill in the back lot. Equipped kitchen, plenty of comfy blankets. Good table space, large bathroom with a big tub. Plenty of towels. Great staff. Overall, pretty good.

The bed was so so on comfort. Lot of light through the back glass door and no way to cover it. They had a sofa that was a pull out bed, that was not very comfortable to sit on. The TV had lots of channels, but was very small.

Loved the location and central to town (within walking distance to the 'hub' of restaurants & cafes. Owners warm and friendly. Staff very helpful. Quiet and very relaxing. Loved our private balcony, upstairs, with great views of Lake Taupo. Modern and extremely Clean rooms of a high standard. Overall very impressed and good value for money. Sails will be my first choice when holidaying in Taupo. Excellent for a romantic, quiet getaway.

Nothing to dislike.

The room was excellent with a large spa bath, spacious bed and amazing uninterupted views of the lake. A small well equipped kitchen with complimentary coffee and a selection of teas. All you need to cook if required. Facilities were ample. We love staying here and Sails on the Lake is always our first choice when visiting Taupo. Easy walking distance to town and a coffee cart a little more than 100mtrs across the road. We even had a special visit from resident cat Ruby to boot so we were more than happy. Can't recommend this motel enough, a beautiful, clean and comfortable stay in Taupo. See you again!

Nothing to dislike!

Location was excellent. Views over the lake but even though located on the main road through Taupo the unit was not noisy. Able to sit outside and and enjoy the views in private. Very well located to enjoy walks to and from. Slightly away from the main centre for walking into town but definitely do-able. Very clean - plenty of parking. Very quiet and efficient wall - mounted heating unit - again most appreciated and not always found in motel accommodation. Full suite of Sky television channels. Very good value for money - especially in a tourist town on a long weekend.

The staff provide a high standard of cleanliness - the apartment was spotlessly clean and was serviced daily. The staff are friendly and helpful and they obviously care about making their guests stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. The apartment had good quality furniture and a comfortable bed. It is right on the lake and we had excellent views across to to the snow covered mountains. Also - the ginger biscuits were really yummy!!

This was our second time staying in a studio unit with spa and view. We were placed in the back set of units this time in unit 14. The view was very good, but we preferred the view in the front units that we had last time. We loved the spa and appreciated the bath salts to use. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

The weather was raining a lot while we were there so we spent quite a bit of time inside. We found the sofa really uncomfortable to watch television on. The carparks of the units were right under the units so the comings and goings of others in their cars impacted on the experience. We cooked one meal inside and had to open all doors as there is no extractor fan over the stovetop.

Awesome location right opposite the lake and an easy walk to town, the bedroom is nice & quiet you can’t hear the road at all. Very warm with heat pump & underfloor heating. Stayed for 2 nights with my Daughter and we loved the place. Being able to park right at the door of our room was very handy & we loved the Cat Ruby who came to visit each morning . Good selection of teas / coffee that were topped up each day. Lovely clean place to stay we will book again :)

It was a great little apartment directly across from the beach. The managers who live there were very helpful…. Arthur jumped our car when our battery was dead, and leant me a large pot to cook pasta one night. Location was great for Taupo, close to town and the sites. We would stay again, very comfortable bed.

The location was superb and the view was to die for! It was just a quick Uber drive in to town, the bed was comfy, we loved the kitchen facilities and the huge bathroom (with amazing shower pressure!). There’s also a great coffee caravan, the steaming bean, just down the street so it was lovely to walk across to that and have coffee on the waterfront each morning!

The water temperature was a bit inconsistent (fluctuated from perfect temperate to scalding), and the seating space/lounge area was a little small, but we didn’t spend enough time in the room due to the amazing weather for this to be an issue!
