Le Chalet Suisse Motel Taupo

There was an incident with the room we had booked at our original motel and they kindly rang around while we were en route (with our permission) and found Le Chalet Suisse for us. We were a little disappointed as we had chosen the first motel for very specific reasons. However, the receptionist at Le Chalet Suisse was lovely and we felt very welcome. We know we were lucky to get the room at short notice at New Year. The location was great, within walking distance of the restaurants and shops in the township and we enjoyed our room with its view over the pool and Bumper Cars to the lake and promenade. Very clean, great shower pressure, and spa bath upstairs. Full kitchenette, two toilets, air conditioning, and the most fabulously comfortable bed. It was so relaxing we decided to stay a second night and they were able to fit us in.

It wasn't a dislike, more of a note for others. The chalets are two storied wi quite steep stairs and left to our own devices we wouldn't have chosen that as my husband suffers from a back injury. However, in this case, beggars could not be choosers and we managed for the short duration.

Great location, five minutes walk from the central waterfront restaurants! Hot tub, pool (too cold to sample) and pretty decent lake views from our front unit. Nice lounge area with fast WiFi, flat screen TV, heat pump, and panel heaters upstairs so we were warm all the way through our stay. Very clean and tidy unit.

Beds were surprisingly less comfortable than expected- mattresses with very distinctive hollows each side, bathroom very cramped for the size of the unit, and car parking tight and quite difficult to access for a number of guests we watched try to maneuver!

This was perfect for us. Great location, great pool and spa pool, great kitchen, great to have effectively 3 bedrooms for the 4 of us (parents and 2 kids). One of the fans in the bedroom was broken and the manager went and immediately bought a new one. I wish we'd stayed here longer and we'll definitely be back for another stay!

Heat pump for the two upstairs bedrooms would have been ideal but the fans were really good alternatives.

Fantastic location with fabulous views of Lake and easy stroll to restaurants and shops. The bed and pillows were most comfortable we've slept in since arriving in NZ couple of months ago.

Some updating is needed and paint touch up in places but was very clean and well equipped. TV in odd position to watch from couch, but too much to do in area to watch it anyway. Would happily stay there again.

The Friendly Owner Boris presented me with a bottle of red as my room was not ready on arrival to compensate for the lateness. He had staff off sick and was very busy. He also did I could check out later than the allocated time. Very kind gesture which made my stay at the Motel exceptional. Fabulous place and excellent location in walking distance from all amenities. I will definitely be back. Could not fault anything.Spa bath in the room was also nice after traveling. Thank you Boris and staff for making my stay at Le Chalet Suisse memorable. Amazing views from our unit.

Everything was perfect.There was nothing to dislike

what a stay. 6 lads turned up for a chilled evening of tapas and board games. the hotel was very accomodating for us and very informative of the car park spaces for our G Wagon. we stayed in a lovely room where we set up monoploy and it was perfectly sized for us 6. one of our lads accidentally left his shirt and Rolex on the bed which S.Gao found and sent it back to us by post. he was very helpful. brilliant stay and would recommend to anyone.

Number of items need fixing, eg front door latchback broken and very hard to open/shut and lock. Door blind shredded and needs replacing. Bathroom and kitchen taps loose. All window catches loose and need replacing. Left a note for the owner

The staff were really friendly and helpful. They were accommodating with laundry ..actually washing it and drying a full load for $10. I really appreciated it as we had been traveling around a bit and I was tired. We loved the amount of space, especially upstairs. Plenty of white fluffy towels and having two bathrooms (three of us) was great.It was remarkably quiet even though it appeared the place was full on Sunday. Monday it seemed there were very few guests and this meant it was really quiet. It may be an older motel but it meant it was larger than most rooms you normally get for this price, was very clean and had everything we needed in the kitchen for making snacks. We liked that we could walk to town for dinner and the restaurants/ cafes were so handy. We were travelling with our 23Yr old son so two TV's was great. We loved the spa bath!

The curtains needed some attention. They were hanging in places where hooks had come off. The parking was very tight and we were worried about our large ute in our designated parking spot. The parked car beside us did not leave enough room for us. Guests need to be very good at parking within the lines and parking as close to the building as possible. The first night we left it on the road but then the next night with less guests we bought it in and parked in our spot. We had to back out when we left as the ute parked beside us was jutting out. Regardless it did not upset our stay and is not the owners fault that people cannot park properly. Explaining this to guests might help.

Self contained. Everything we needed. Lovely view. Close to everything. Clean and tidy. Nicely maintained. Perfect for our fam of 5 for the short stay. Loved two tvs (kids vs adults sorted!!).

The lake facing units carparks aren’t directly outside the unit. Not a big issue - we arrived in the dark and rain and felt daunted at the thought of emptying the car but it was a quick walk across a deck to our unit.

Looking like it needs a good luck of paint in places, rotting boards need replacing, curtains need some more hooks, tatty tie backs etc which at price of stay didn’t match? It won’t take much to tidy up
