great location near metro and tram, the staff is very friendly, nice breakfast.

the room was nice, however we got the one facing the main street (room #103) and it was quite noisy to sleep. Windows and wooden window shutters didn't provide much of soundproofing. If possible, ask for a room not facing Rua da Escola Politécnica. The wooden bed in the room was not comfortable, was making a lot of sounds every time you turn in your sleep.

It was our first visit to Lisbon so I wasn't familiar with the area. As it happens, this hotel is in a great area, fortunately it isn't right in the center, and it's lovely to walk or take a tram, bus or metro all of which are easy to find and use. The hotel staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Our room was very spacious, with a large bathroom, AC which you can control yourself, and a comfy bed. The breakfast was one of the best we've had. Large choice, delicious fruit salad, eggs, choice of cheeses, hams, salami, fresh fruit tart daily, nice coffee. The staff in the very pleasant dining room keep it clean, well stocked, and are there to assist if needed. I had my birthday there and a bottle of lovely red wine was left in my room. This was a very kind thought as was the card with the very lovely words on it. We would definitely come back and recommend.

The breakfast was amazing! Nice selection of typical breakfast options plus tasty pastries every day. The room and especially the bathroom were cleaned to a very high standard and on a daily basis. We appreciated the (many) fresh towels that we got in the bathroom every day, as well as the friendly staff that took care of the room and manned the reception. The location was also great, super close to the city - just a 15 min walk from the city centre. There are several restaurants near the hotel as well, so we still had options even when we didn't feel like walking to the city centre. Overall a lovely experience, would definitely recommend.

The room we got was not like in the pictures; we had booked a standard double room and as soon as we got there we realized that the pictures that we had seen were mostly suites - though this was never mentioned. This meant that instead of a double bed we had two single beds, but it wasn't hard to join them together so this really was not a big deal for us.

The location was terrific which added to the rating, breakfast was significant and the staff were always helpful. I had an accident while there and the staff were very concerned about my welfare and Manager was very helpful and caring.

This was not an inexpensive hotel Andy there was a smell in the bathroom that’s hard to describe but very unpleasant. I told the staff and they worked to eliminate it. They were able to clear it up the first time but when it came back they tried again and they couldn’t remove it. I think it was just an old house - from the 1700s and the plumbing not the best.

The reception staff were so welcoming, very very helpful and friendly. No problem to keep luggage safe so we could check out but return later for our bags. Location of this hotel is perfect - as Rato metro station very handy and there is an excellent choice of restaurants and cafes just a walk away. The daily breakfast was perfect for our requirements and served in a lovely light and bright first floor room.

Photos of the bed rooms do not reflect the rooms - as the photos are in fact of the suites. Misleading, this needs to be rectified. I did mention this to Susana on reception when we saw our room. We will very happily stay again but next time just book a standard room.

I loved everything! Charming historic building, beautifully decorated and furnished. I loved my room: it was large, stylish and very comfortable. Large and perfectly clean bathroom. The location of the hotel is also ideal: just a few minutes north of the charming Bairro Alto with restaurants etc. Across the street from the beautiful church of Sao Mamede (take a look inside). And just 3 or 4 minutes walk from metro station Rato. On my next visit to Lissabon I will definitely stay here again!

The location was very good - underground station very near as well as good bus service to all the attractions. we also walked to the Avenida da Liberdade which is a really posh shopping street, The staff was absolutely wonderful : both the reception and the cleaning ladies were helpful and polite. The atmosphere of an old converted tenement house plus all the modern facilities make this place an unforgettable experience.

Everything was just perfect. Do not change anything, please

The hotel is formerly a grand home , now a lovely place to stay while exploring a very interesting city . it’s located in Principe Real neighbourhood , on the north edge of Barrio Alto. it’s on a fairly busy street, but thick walls and modern glazing mean it’s quiet . A metro station is 3 minutes walk, tram and bus routes are on the doorstep . Lisbon public transit is inexpensive and easy to use. The staff were all great. In particular Susana at reception was very kind , patient and helpful . There is no restaurant , but there are many nearby. A very good breakfast is available in a bright pleasant room . Our room was very clean , comfortable beds, well appointed, quiet. like the hotel, it was been tastefully renovated with modern conveniences while keeping the beauty and character of the original home. we will be back fir another stay next time we come to Lisbon!

The Hotel has the feel of the past, it is beautifully decorated. It was in 1758 that the property was constructed for residence of a magistrate, the Dr. Manuel Jose de Faria and Sousa, curiously, is one of the first buildings to be constructed in the traditional system of “birdcage” – heartquake- proof construction used after earthquake of 1755. Having been adapted to a hotel unit in 1948, it knew how to keep throught the years, the treatment, the tradition and the atmosphere of a true family house. And rooms are nice and spacious!

Breakfast is not much of a joy. Juices could be improved by serving freshly squeezed orange juice, grapefruit etc. Also variety is quite poor. We probably skip breakfast next time unless it would be improved.

The breakfast was lovely, loads of choice and fresh. Nice to see some local pastries as well! The location couldn’t be better very central and good for the metro at Rato. I loved the period features of the hotel and the size of the rooms. Overall it is a comfortable hotel.

I found the bed a little bit hard and not as comfy as I’d expected given the luxurious feel of the hotel. We only had one window in the room so it was a little dark.
