Occidental Barcelona 1929

Pro: - Inexpensive (110€/night over Christmas in December for 2 people) - Good breakfast (included in the price) - disgusting coffee from the machine though and they charge extra for real coffee - Nice staff - Decent location with direct Airport Bus and metro connection - Nice view from the roof terrace

Con: - Like most hotels gyms, their gym is pretty useless (dumbbells only up to 10kg, some multi function machine that is useless for anyone even remotely serious about working out) - You can book "2 separate beds" which turns out to be only 2 separate mattresses in the same bed - Lower floors feel the vibration from the subway at night - Roof terrace is nice (though "pool" is only 30cm deep), but was closed when we visited - Room very small (but ok for the price)

The hotel really meet our expectations. It was modern and clean. Everything worked as expected and the staff was kind and helpful. The breakfast was awesome, maybe the best one I've had in a hotel of these kind. Besides the typical buffet, that was already quite good, you could order hot meals like scrambled or fried eggs, bacon, etc. and it was prepared at the moment and served to your table without extra cost.

Nothing, to be honest.

We were only there for one night, but the room was lovely, the hotel itself very nice and the breakfast also very good. It's super close to the airport bus stop which was one of the reasons we chose it.

The location is good. Metro station very close and excellent for the aerobus to and from the airport Breakfast was very good. Seating inside or out The rooftop bar is nice too maybe more staff at very busy times The pool area is very nice. Great view Not loads of beds but we managed to get a bed after a small wait each time.

There is little to no storage in the room. Only a small area of hanging space. There were two of us for a week. That’s a lot of clothes and no kind of dressing table area either for belongings. I’d prefer to not live out of a suitcase or from the floor.

Perfect location with the airport bus stop just round the corner, adjacent to the Plaza Espanya station for trains to Montserrat, and a short walk to Barcelona Saint rail station for trains to places like Girona. Near the hotel are a number of restaurants and bars. The hotel is brand new and designed to modern standards - the bathroom is gorgeous! The room (and the air con system) was quiet. Good breakfast and friendly staff.

There was some confusion due to a miscommunication with staff on a matter but it was dealt with quickly and professionally.

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel, specially because of the staff, decor and room.

Breakfast needs to be better in terms of more authentic Spanish food as well as fresh juices and smoothies. Also the coffee from the machine isn't great.

Hotel has a perfect location. It's within walking distance to many great places, metro station not far away, bus to the airport stops almost in front of the door, many nice restaurants and shopping mall around a corner. Hotel itself is very fresh and clean. The breakfast room has a nice interior with old books on the window sills which give some extra charm to the room. Good breakfast. I liked that food was already served in nice small pieces. Could see that the hotel cares about decreasing food waste.

Usually hotel personnel tell 'hello' or 'good morning' to guests when meeting in a corridor or when guests leave a hotel, receptionist tells 'good bye'. Not in this hotel. But maybe that's just cultural differences.

Great location right on placa de espanya. One of the receptionists was very helpful and made up for another being much less helpful. Unfortunately I didn't get her name. Parking next to the hotel (although charged at 22 euros per day. There is another public car park right next to that one, the first one you come to when you drive of place de espanya. It's the same price at 22 euros per day but less tight than the one right next to the hotel. It's still tight as all Spanish city car parks are but the hotel one is suuuuper tight!!)

Expensive for the size of the room. Pool and roof terrace were closed.

The rooms were lovely with a huge shower. The toiletries, tea and water was a added bonus. They have a steam iron, TV and the doors open for some cool air. The main hotel is stunning. The cocktails were perfect and the interior downstairs is gorgeous. The location is a 2 minute walk to the tube station which is basically 20-30 minutes to most main attractions.

We didn't know that the upstairs bar area was not open and the pool is being renovated which is a shame as we were looking forwards to sitting there having a drink. No other issues with anything, the hotel was perfect 👌

As we were staying for 4 nights we decided to pay a little more than we would normally do for our on route type of hotel. This was clearly seen when we booked in, the decor was modern and clean, Stainless steel lift . Bar area was bright with windows down 3 sides, high ceiling, plenty of comfortable seating. Breakfast was very good - gluten free options. The quality and preparation of the food was much better than your average hotel. Some tradition dishes as well as all the usual. Location was excellent metro station right outside. 20 some mins to the SF, about 30 to PG. We walked back from the centre a couple of times. We liked the bars and area just down the road a short distance - authentic - less touristy. Staff were great, friendly, helpful, smiling. Shower was nice and big and plenty of water. Lost the wife over the other side of the bed, which she enjoyed !
