My wife and I very much enjoyed our three night stay at Newgate House, Barnard Castle. We both felt that the exceptional quality, homeliness feeling and lovely cooked breakfast certainly deserves the 10 out 10 score for the hard work and attention to detail given by our host Carole. Nothing all good

The hosts, Carol and her husband, were wonderful! They were so friendly and attentive, but not intrusive and we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was beautiful, clean, quiet and the beds were so comfy. The breakfast was excellent!! Home made granola and a first class full English breakfast set us up brilliantly. Honestly could not fault this b&b and we would absolutely recommend it!

Wonderful B&B! It was a fantastic stay from start to finish. The bedroom was gorgeous, tastefully decorated and everything was good quality. It was nice to have a bottle of fresh milk morning and evening. It was lovely to have 2 comfy chairs instead of only1. The bathroom was gorgeous too with a rolltop bath and walk in shower. Good quality produce used for breakfast, the homemade granola was moreish. Have stayed in places priced 2-3 as much not as good. Carole was a friendly helpful host. Walking distance to Barnard Castle and Bowed museum too!

Nothing. Would stay here again and strongly recommend it for anyone wanting to stay in Barnard castle.

Excellent location, felt like being in a friend's home rather than a B&B. The room and bathroom were very clean and welcoming to a weary traveller. Breakfast was great, Carole will cook your breakfast if you wish or you can have it as simple as you like. The room was warm and the bed was very comfortable, I slept very well there. There is plenty of parking available very close to the house.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were made to feel welcome, our room was cosy, clean, warm and comfortable. The private bathroom was sheer luxury. The bed, amazing. Our hostess was attentive to our every need. We appreciated the fresh milk that was left outside our door, so that we could enjoy our first cup of tea in the morning. Our dietary needs were considered and catered for. The breakfasts were delicious and thoroughly enjoyed Location just perfect. We will be staying there on future trips to Barnard Castle.

Carole is a very gracious host. The room was very comfortable and spacious with lounging chairs, kettle for coffee or tea with milk. A wonderful breakfast! Anyone staying here will not be disappointed. A heritage home only steps away to Bowes Museum and the Downtown. A great 2 night stay. Almost across the street is Capri Restaurant that was very good Italian and also has Standard items on the menu 👌 😀

You will not be disappointed!

Newgate house excelled my expectations. It was incredibly peaceful and beautifully decorated. The decor, food and small touches such as fresh milk provided for tea/ coffee, wonderful books and a beautiful spacious, clean bathroom were all wonderful. Level of care and attention from Carole was just right and not at all intrusive.

Breakfast was superb, freshly cooked, delicious, generous portions, and the fruit salad was lovely too. The property is in a great location, and beautifully styled. Immaculately decorated and spotlessly clean. Lots of lovely touches, and the owner Carole was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return.

Can't find fault with anything!

Carole is a fantastic host who was very welcoming and made our stay enjoyable. The rooms are spotlessly clean with lovely nice touches providing everything you could ever need. We had a great cooked breakfast on both mornings and nothing was ever too much trouble. The house is in a great location for the shops and within walking distance of the Bowes Museum. We will definitely return.

Beautiful property, luxurious and scrupulously clean rooms, beds incredibly comfortable, friendly and helpful hosts who couldn’t do enough to make us feel welcome. Excellent breakfast as others have mentioned, best I’ve ever had and not an exaggeration.

A little road noise once the traffic started up, but can’t be helped due to convenient location, and very quiet during the night. Shutters helped.
