The pub had a choice of good cask ales, the beer garden has to have one of the best views in England looking across the Swaledale valley and with the amazing weather we had it was hard to actually go indoors for our evening meal. But the sacrifice was worth it a huge pork chop with a delicious blue cheese sauce and vegetables cooked to perfection. Breakfast was lovely to a full English. The room was very homely, comfy and clean. All the staff we came into contact with were really friendly and helpful. A lovely place to walk and the perfect base to come back to. We will definitely be back.

Nothing.

Wasn't sure what to expect when booking however the reviews online convinced me to book and I was more than satisfied. On the run up to arrival I had a couple of queries and spoke to the hotel both times they were polite and helpful. On arrival staff were very friendly and attentive. I booked my room knowing I had a separate private bathroom and both my bathroom and bedroom were huge. Breakfast the next day was of an amazing standard and again beey friendly staff. Location though very rural was idyllic and peaceful resulting in a great nights sleep. If I was in that area again I'd happily stay there again.

The countryside views surrounding this pub were amazing and can be appreciated from the restaurant or the beer garden. There are lovely walks straight from the door across Swaledale. Food is good with a reasonable choice for vegetarians, including a vegetarian full English breakfast. Staff are really friendly and helpful.

Don't forget it's a pub so there will be noise from the bar, particularly on a weekend. If you want an early night take earplugs. However, the pub closes promptly and it's all quiet by 11pm.

Nice homely pub with friendly staff. Our room (3) was well equipped but rather small. Bed was comfortable and bathroom fresh and very clean. Breakfast was good (try the scrambled egg and smoked salmon).

Room could have been a bit bigger so that we didn’t have to manoeuvre around our stuff. At night there was a humming noise, perhaps from an extractor, which was on for periods of time and then went off for a while. The area was otherwise very quiet at night so this was noticeable.

Absolutely wonderful pub to stay in. The location is so beautiful with gorgeous views of the dale from the beer garden and restaurant plus walking trails on the doorstep. We arrived in April and were delighted to see lambs and ducklings in the field next door. The food is excellent and beyond pub grub. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the overall place has a really relaxed welcoming feel. The rooms were fab with colourful tasteful furnishings and character... Always great to see! They were also spotlessly clean. Can't wait to return.

Nothing it was perfect

The location was excellent, a pretty little Dales village with fabulous views down Swaledale. The pub was warm and cosy with a very good separate dining room. The room was clean and welcoming. The breakfast was really good. The staff were friendly. There was a lovely beer garden out back taking in the breathtaking views. There was excellent car parking facilities.

The room was very small, but it was advertised as such, so no real complaints. However it was located over the kitchens which could be noisy. We booked an evening meal. The setting was perfect in the rear dining room but I thought the meal wasn’t that good. I was expecting more given the excellent reviews I’d read. It was basic bland fayre, lacking in any real flavour.

Beer garden lovely. View amazing. Had a lovely pre evening drink in the sunshine admiring the amazing view. Evening meal very good. The young staff serving were exceptional. Very friendly and efficient. All smiling. Bacon at breakfast cooked to perfection.

Our room Bedroom 1 was above the bar. When pub opened at 5.30 in our room the music downstairs vibrated ‘boom boom’ noise in our room until I asked for it to be turned off at 22.30. The speaker is at top of wall in pub just below the bedroom floorboard. The bowl of fresh fruit at breakfast looked unappetising. We arrived at 4pm. Pub shut. Rang number on the door. A lady came straight away and showed us to our room. Very grateful. However we felt it was very rushed and that we were an inconvenience arriving at that time. It did state that we could arrive anytime from 2pm.

The location is just what we were looking for. Unfortunately the weather didn't play ball. After a prolonged dry spell, it rained forcing us to have our picnic in the car! We had room one and unlike most other hotel rooms we've stayed in there was an electric socket and mirror near the dressing table. It was (for us) also a relief to find a decent draught cider on offer ('Angry Orchard') and not the dreaded 'Strongbow'!

The welcome wasn't the best thanks to the surly faced girl who was manning the place when we arrived. The Booking.com blurb also states 'bathrobes' so I left my usual overnight wrap at home, but unfortunately there were none. The noise from the bar also wasn't ideal in bedroom one but it was a pub after all!
