The room was spacious and clean, comfortable bed and bathroom well presented. We were next to the lift and was concerned about the lift noise from the bell ringer as it stopped on each floor but it’s turned down low so we needed have been concerned. It’s really close to Barnstaple town centre with a short walk for any day time shopping, but wouldn’t really recommend the nightlife.

The late night (well after 22:45, not really really late 😬) service wasn’t what we expected as we had been out to a show at Ilfracombe and when we got back the night Porter was on and everywhere was locked up and felt we had got to tip toe to bed like good little children. Couldn’t even get a nightcap to take up to the room with us, if we had known I would have brought something in with us. The night Porter was a little sharp and felt we were coming home to our parents. Bear in mind we are over 60 so felt a little deflated. Room service stops at 21:00 so could t even get a drink sent up to the room 🤷‍♂️ We had such a great time at the show and not drinking and driving I said we would have one when we got back to the hotel.

The hotel is beautifully presented and clean. The staff are exceptional. Lady from housekeeping wss very helpful and pleasant when making some adjusts for my husband. I wish I had noted her name. I also noticed that you never see a guest queuing at reception if it is busy; any staff nearby will immediately come and offer assistance. The guests experience seems important to The Imperial. We used the breakfast service which had plenty of choice and was tasty. Also used the bar service, also good.

Just a small thing, we weren't a fan of the coffee so stuck to tea at breakfast. We visited during a September heatwave, our 3rd floor room was lovely but extremely warm as there was no air conditioning. A fan had been provided which helped at bedtime as it covered the bed area. I n normal weather conditions I'm sure the room would have been perfect.

A beautiful old fashioned hotel, that has been kept in excellent condition and very central. Our room was very comfortable with everything we needed and a good size for a small double room. It was very clean and had good quality linen and towels. It was a bit warm for us, but we could open the window. The breakfast, a mix of cold buffet and hot from the kitchen was wonderful, with a lot of choice and very attentive waiting on staff. The lounge, bar and dining room areas are beautifully decorated with a lot of attention to detail. We had a meal in the Bistro, very well cooked and presented and reasonably priced. Over all we couldn't have asked for more, it was a lovely, comfortable weekend in beautiful surroundings with excellent friendly staff.

Lee at the reception literally saved our Christmas. A week before Christmas on a Saturday night, we arrived at our AirBnB accommodation in sub zero temperatures. The boiler was broken, the house filthy, and the beds dirty. There was even dirty washing-up in the sink. My 84 year old mother was in tears, and we were devastated. I called The Imperial Hotel and Lee found us two fine rooms, upgrading us, and also arranged a wonderful dinner in the snug room of the bar. Despite there being a gala dinner dance in the main restaurant. I have stayed at The Savoy in London, the Carlton in Cannes, and the Waldorf Astoria in New York, and the service I received from Lee and the other staff at The Imperial Hotel was as good as, if not better, than that offered by any of those fine hotels. Thank you, very much.

We booked here as my granddaughter was getting married in Barnstaple and were having s small reception in the hotel. The hotel was even better than we could have hoped for in every way. The whole hotel was a great experience from the staff to decor to quality if the room. In fact the bathroom was so clean and smart it looked like it had never been used. As a reception venue it was perfect with staff that were attentive and very helpful.

Amazing amazing breakfast and incredibly friendly and helpful Staff. I would visit again and it is good for families and older couples. Our room was on the small side but very clean. Quality of the food and drinks was excellent.

Room was very small and there was a gap at the bottom of the door so it let a lot of noise in from the corridor. Overall this didn't take away from our stay at all, as the staff were exceptional and the breakfast was superb. Those things for us mattered more. We would stay again for sure.

Room was conveniently placed close to reception. Parking free and convenient, some for charging points and easy access at front of hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Close to Tarka trail, town shops nearby. Facilities of sister hotels eg swimming pool, available, not verified.

Too many different types of rooms and prices. Suggest contacting hotel and Booking. Com for clearer prices, meals included etc.

A large, well organized and professionally managed hotel. The staff were always, polite, professional and helpful. We had to extend our stay because one of us was unwell. Although our room was booked for the next day, the staff found a similar room and moved all our belongings quickly and efficiently. The food was generally very good, service was well managed, and the breakfasts were outstanding. 5 Stars

The breakfast was excellent and fast service. Friendly waiters. We had such a fantastic view of the river from our room (107) that we had room service evening meals, pulled back the blinds and just enjoyed it. The room itself, is large and comfortable with a seating area. Also a glass each of complimentary prosecco.

The flower arrangements in the hotel are very good, but why do they have to use some white lilies which have a funerial smell? Also, as every bedroom has a TV in it, why must there be one in the lounge? It is either continuous Brend hotel adverts on a loop, which, once you have seen it, you don't want to keep seeing it, or, if a guest wants to watch sport, you watch it or leave.

My partner and I were absolutely delighted with our stay at The Imperial. We loved the olde worlde charm of the interiors and the imposing outlook, especially from across the river. Its location was fantastic being so near to the town centre. We lovely our morning walk along the river. Our room was well proportioned and everything was clean. It looked out onto the river across the road and yet it’s so quiet. The bed was so comfortable, too. We’d definitely stay there again when we’re in north Devon
