Breakfast was phenomenal, my partner is quite hard to please and she loved it. The room was very clean and tidy and had all the amenities we needed and we could have asked for more if we needed, I'm sure. The staff were incredibly welcoming and extremely helpful. One night, we were stuck in Abergavenny and could not get a taxi back to Blaenavon. Walking back in the dark is too dangerous and the assistant manager (I think) at the time tried to organise a taxi for us, couldn't manage either (something was going on that night), so organised her partner to pick us up! We were so grateful, and its acts like this you don't get at any ordinary hotel. Had an evening meal there and was also delicious, their kitchen is very good and al locally sourced ingredients. The pub was very smart looking and had friendly locals and a good selection of beers/ales and wines. You are less than half an hour walk from Keepers pond which is a good starting point for a lovely 7 mile walk up/round the Blorenege which is stunning. As a smoker, I could use a fire door at night which was near my room to have a cigarette and not disturb anyone which was also helpful for me. I never write reviews either but felt like I had to for The Lion.

Cannot think of a single thing I would have changed

Great bed and breakfast in the centre of town. Fine dining quality food at the cost of slightly pricey pub grub. Amazingly accommodating for my partner’s birthday from putting up banners while cleaning the room to somehow fitting 19 candles on a tart safely; this really speaks to the lengths at which the staff will go to ensure the best stay for their guests.

Unfortunately during our stay the wellness facility was out of commission and we were unable to use this, and this was a massive draw while booking. The staff were however greatly empathetic to these concerns

The rooms were of decent size, well equipped and perfectly acceptable for all of our party Free parking to the rear of the property Good choice of breakfast available Was close to where we were going the following day, so well located Big Pit and a brewery is only 3 mins away by car

It was perhaps more of a pub with rooms, than a hotel As we stayed on a Sunday, they only did Sunday Roasts until 3pm - so no food was available in the evening (which we knew). We found that the town offered very little in terms of other eating establishments, so we ended up having to drive 10-15 mins to find somewhere.

The room was great even though it was opposite a live music venue we really didn't get disturb. The breakfast included was nice too and they accommodated us for dinner at short notice. Staff were really helpful and friendly. The pub/restaurant has nice decor and a relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely stay there again if we ever visited the area.

Needed a bit more milk sachets in the room 1 and 1/2 between two people was a little short. I really could have done with an iron, but apart from that the accommodation was ideal for our one night stay. Steak was quite chewy even though we had it cook medium, it was a tad expensive at £21 each for the quality of the meat. But they fitted us in for dinner last minute, so appreciated that.

It is a very friendly hotel/restaurant/pub in the centre of Blaenavon. The room was excellent and fully fitted out with great shower with instant hot water! The breakfasts are awesome with so much choice and generous portions. I eat there too and was very pleased with the menu choices. All in all a delightful break inn interesting town.

I would like there to have been fruit available for breakfast. I was pleased that there was always de-caff coffee. I would have liked the chance to have a second coffee at breakfast.

One of the best breakfast. I must appreciate the chef Becky underwood who is taking individual orders and then giving the orders. Very nice breakfast. I tried almost all the options in the breakfast and everything was beautiful. The team working is amazing there. The staffs I would say Mark who welcomed me in a pleasing way, guided me for the tour too. Other staffs were Taysha Smith Marh boss Rose Ashley were all amazing. Massage chair is the amazing addition in the stay with steam and sauna. Especially after a nice walk to Lakes and mountain walks. The restaurant and bar is quite busy too. Cant ask for more!!

Little pricey for the dinner I felt. But tasty food too.

Mark at reception/bar was friendly an helpful. He accommodated us well for evening meal and breakfast. The evening meal was delicious came quickly considering how busy it was. It was hot fresh an tasty. Also used the sauna it was real hot very good. All round excellent service.

Wasn't too keen on the steam room. Wasn't as good as I'd expect. Also Breakfast wasn't the best slightly over cooked bacon an sausage. Presentation of my sons scrambled egg put him off his breakfast.

Cosy and comfortable. Lovely bar and delicious food in the restaurant.

Lack of attention to detail. Some bulbs weren't working, the bathroom radiator was off (and it was - 3 outside). It could have been a little cleaner. There was a half drunk bottle of water in the room and some small things were dusty. Main things like beds and bathroom were clean though. Also, the bathroom didn't have shower just a bath, that could have been made clearer at time of booking.

Excellent breakfast and excellent evening meals on both days although the menu differed hugely from that advertised on the Hotel's web site. Very friendly, helpful staff at breakfast and dinner. Our room was comfortable and had an ample supply of tea, milk and coffee. TV was good.

Internet service was intermittent in our room and the hair dryer didn't work.

Nice welcome from staff, room quite generous and modern bathroom with huge bath! Downstairs restaurant served great meals at reasonable cost.

Bathroom would have benefited from a deep clean (behind bath, for example) which was a shame as the actual fittings were top quality. Stairs to access rooms looked like they'd been regularly used by workers and desperately needed a hoover.
