Best Western Pontypool Metro Hotel

The hotel was lovely, for the price paid it was better than I expected, the staff were ever so helpful and friendly. The bedroom was clean, the TV was an amazing size, a nice selection of teas within the room, adequate space within the room, the closet and the chest of drawers were very functional. Pleased with the usb-a inputs and the plug sockets, made being able to charger me devices easier and plug socket next to the bed also was very helpful. Overall one of the best stays I’ve had. Despite being on the back of a busy road, near by an Aldi, KFC, McDonald’s, Greggs and it’s only about 10 minutes from Newport city centre.

Only thing is the hair dryer piece was broken so couldn’t attach to the hair dryer but still worked. Wish there was a lift but understandably that can’t be done. Everything else was amazing.

The staff were very welcoming Everything was clean and the rooms were basic but great for our overnight stay. The breakfast was held in the lobby which in the evening had a bar and was lovely to stay up with our friends having a quiet drink before retiring

The hotel us hidden from the road and to access it we had to take the motor service turning from an island which had s large McDonald’s. We negotiated the drive around the back if the McDonald building to then drive into the car park. The Cato ark had plenty of spaces and the grounds were very well maintained

Easy to access from main road.(with Sat Nav) as we couldn't see any road signage. plenty of parking, we found check in easy and very friendly. We had been upgraded to a family room which was nice. We were at the back of hotel so no noise at all, even though it was New Years Eve. Breakfast is over 3 hours,(check hours in guest book.) so no rush to get down to the lobby, the restaurant was in the main lobby, but was comfortable and roomy. The breakfast was help yourself, with plenty of choice from cooked to cereal and fruit. Our room was very comfortable and the shower was easy to use. We had a problem with the TV stations, picture was all mosaic. We reported it, and a man did try to fix the problem, but did say that a new cable was needed. Luckily we were out most of the day and evening so didn.t really bother us. Location is fantastic for access to all Attractions in area. We found a lovely canal walk 5mins away by car. Cardiff, Brecon Beacons, Newport, Usk, Cwmbran all close by.

I was a bit unsure of this place but.. even for those who don't drive this hotel is a great spot! We took a train and then a local taxi - all worked out really well. Staff is just superb: friendly, helpful, very knowledge and polite. If you don't feel like breakfast at the hotel - KFC and McDonald's are near (please be careful as you are walking there).

That Uber would not pick up from the hotel - you need to use local cab company I believe they are called Dragonfly. Ease speak yo receptionist - they can call you a taxi in 5mins (when it is not busy) otherwise it is hard to fa this place.

Welcoming, helpful and polite staff. Room and bathroom was bright and spacious. Very comfortable bed in the room. Good breakfast. Hotel is about 30-40 min away from Pen y Fan for hiking. Good value for money

It could be noisy if the room is facing the road. SatNav took us to McDonalds instead of the hotel, so you need to watch where to turn instead of following a SatNav in the end. It was not a problem for us, it's just something to note.

Hannah at reception was excellent. I booked wrong weekend by mistake and she did everything she could to secure us a room for the weekend even though they were fully booked.nothing was to much trouble for her .

Breakfast was terrible .very poor selection.staff struggled to find a smile between them . Very Poor selection of food, waited 10 minutes for beans and by the time they finally brought them out we all had finished our breakfast .very expensive for 2 sausages and some scrambled egg ,( bacon looked like ir was cooked last week )

Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Bathroom was also clean. Check-in was easy and parking was secure with CCTV. Immediate location was good with food outlets nearby.

Overall location was not great, you need to drive around a very busy chaotic roundabout to exit the area. Hotel is convenient if driving from the M4 but it did not seem very accessible without a car.

I booked a family room to have access to a bathtub. The room was clean, spacious, tastefully decorated and well laid out. Breakfast was delicious. The staff were absolutely amazing. Our car broke down and had to be recovered back to London. Due to the fact that the hotel was quiet, the lady at reception was extremely kind and allowed us to stay a bit longer after checkout, until the recovery vehicle came. My partner and I were highly appreciative of this kind gesture.

Bathtub was smaller than expected so only children or petit adults could truly enjoy a bath. My room back on to a busy road (disguised by trees), so it was noisy at night due to passing vehicles, when I opened the window to cool the room.

I usually stay with a competitor brand endorsed by a famous comedian, and I didn't expect much from Best Western other than a place to sleep. However, the rooms were a good size, it was clean and well cared for. Whats more reception offers a lounge to wait for the kids whilst they get ready, coffee, or even something stronger if you would like.

My only real issue was the bed. Neither my husband nor I slept particularly well. Having been spoilt by the purple competitor previously. My boys, who were sharing a twin room, couldn't separate the beds by more than a few inches, which led to unnecessary arguments. More space between beds in a twin room is a must.

Great location. Walking distance to a harvester restaurant for a proper meal and 1 minute from fast food restaurants for a quick bite. You can also buy breakfast at the hotel and there's a well stocked bar.

There are quite bright lights as security over the carpark. However, from in the room, even with blinds and curtains closed, you couldn't tell if it was daylight or not outside.
