Breakfast was excellent the first day (19th Aug), mark had it running like clockwork- very organised and food was cooked perfectly. On the Sunday (20th Aug) different chef and breakfast staff and wasn’t as good - we were given a menu on the first day, however when we asked for one the second day, we were told they didn’t have any - we explained we were given one the day before to which the lady replied “we don’t really use them “! 5 minutes later she gave a menu to a table of paying guests!! The breakfast service just wasn’t as efficient. Also the food wasn’t as good the second day - the eggs over-cooked and the croquettes cold in the middle - when we mentioned this some replacements that had been microwaved so they were no longer crispy on the outside were brought out so late we had already finished our breakfast by then. Have to say Mark was excellent the whole time he was working- organised, professional, helpful and friendly.

Need to make sure both chefs cook to the same standard. Perhaps take the rusty toiletries stand out of the bathroom. Tv in the family triple room is too small, more suitable in size for a single room

The breakfasts and dinners were absolutely superb - a wide choice, and they were all well cooked and presented. The room was comfortable and clean - and we really liked the ceiling fan during the hot summer nights. The staff were without exception charming, helpful and polite. Enjoyed the railway-themed decor, and the Agatha Christie corner!

Not the hotel's fault, but what a pity the Dartmouth Steam Train no longer stops (= at least not in 2023) at Churston Ferrers, which is literally just outside the hotel. So we had to detour into Paignton and back by bus. Given that the theme and style of the hotel is the railway, I feel that the steam train stop at Churston Ferrers should be reinstated!

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and it just got better and better. The service was excellent. We loved the position of the hotel, just outside of Brixham and easy to get to both Paignton and Torquay. The hotel was a beautiful old building with lots of character. Our room was a good size and had everything we could have wanted for a good nights sleep. The facilities were perfect. We had breakfast included with our room but chose not to have it as we had a perfect and filling evening meal the night before and wasn't hungry. Breakfast looked excellent. We were sad to leave but said from now on we will be staying at this lovely hotel on every trip in the future.

Everything. Our stay was so much better than we could have imagined. Thank you.

Most staff were really friendly - Tess was lovely both on the phone prior to arrival and in person. Our waitress at lunchtime was really great - she ended up being called in for the evening too as they were busy. We didn't get to find out her name, just that she'd moved to the area from Newbury in the last couple of years and I heard her tell other customers she'd not been working there long. She's clearly a great addition to the staff. The family room, room 4 was very spacious and the ceiling fans were great additions as it was hot but near a busy road so at least we could shut the windows but stay cool. The rooms were surprisingly quiet at night though. The food at lunchtime was very good indeed

The lady who was around in the afternoon and evening was quite grumpy and brusque. My children had trouble deciding what to eat for dinner and she seemed annoyed that when she asked us twice for our meal selections, they hadn't chosen yet. There was a noisy dog that kept barking in the restaurant/ bar area - we got the impression it might have been behind the bar but we didn't feel that dogs should be near a food area and it was annoying quite a few people with its barking. The food wasn't as good in the evening and we felt the meat was dry plus we had to wait a long time for it to he cooked once ordered. We did feel that the food and drink prices were a bit expensive so if we stay again, we may not eat there.

Never judge a book by its cover. This Pub/Hotel is on the main Brixham Road right next to the Dartmouth Steam Railway and very easy to miss as you whizz past. The staff as super friendly and very attentive. The room was freshly decorated with everything you could need including a nice hot bath! The best feature however is the fantastic food served in the bar. We recently stayed in a 4 star local hotel but the food here knocked it out the park… Can only be described as fabulous. Good value and highly recommended

The kerb appeal could do with some updating.

We were very warmly welcomed by the landlady on our arrival and taken up to a very spacious and quiet room facing the heritage railway station. The full English breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked to order. We also had a superb meal in the restaurant during our one night stay, served by friendly and welcoming staff. The inn is in an excellent location for visiting Greenway (Agatha Christie's former holiday home, now a National Trust property) and also very close to Brixham and to the picturesque Broadsands beach.

Location was okay and next door to the steam railway. Large car park and there was outdoor seating available. Staff very friendly and helpful. We asked for a jug of fresh milk as I don’t like the UHT stuff and we were given a small jug of milk to take to the room at every request. Hairdryer fixed in the top drawer. Full length mirror in the wardrobe. Lots of hangers and space. Tv on the wall was adequate to fall asleep to 😆. A stand was provided for our case, but nowhere else to put stuff only an old dressing table/desk. We ate our evening meal there twice and I have to say the food was excellent both times. I recommend the blackened Cajun chicken! Very spicy. Loved it with new potatoes and asked for mayonnaise yummy. Breakfasts are nice… fresh berries and sweetened plain yogurt, fruit and cereals also. DIY Bread for toasting, DIY coffee. Cooked breakfast is good quality and they also have a good choice on the menu including salmon with scrambled eggs. The bathroom had a low level light over the mirror which could be left on all night. Overall we would certainly go back and stay there again. Booked early for a good price. Brixham harbour is only 2 miles away … large car park on the edge of town but there is a walk back along the water to the harbour area which is bustling with shops and restaurants. Very quaint streets and lots of steep hills. The Golden Hind is still moored there… had my photo taken same place when I was 12.

Bathroom was a little bit dated and the patterned flooring looking a bit grubby. Cups provided were paper cups and stirring done with a wooden stick. (We brought our own teaspoon in from the picnic hamper). Small plastic cups in the bathroom …but we could still drink wine from them 🤗. Quite a few stairs to get to the rooms and some are a bit narrow…carpet needs a good cleaning. No fridge… the milk went off in a day of course. Bottles of shampoo and shower gel on the wall were not very good and one almost empty. Wall sockets hard to reach, under or behind furniture. If you come down to breakfast when the room is busy, you have a long wait for your food.

Large airy room, perfect for lovers of steam trains as we were next to the small station- found it fascinating and not intrusive. The link to Agatha Christie waiting for her train while sitting in the hotel was very interesting as her home was nearby. The evening meal was exceptional, the menu was so varied and the meals so tasty, couldn't fault it.. Staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast to set us on our way. Definitely worth another visit.

Very good meals. Easy car parking. Lovely room. No traffic noise.

We expected breakfast from 8:00 - 10:00 , but on our last day it was not available until 8:30 and the chef was not due in until 9:00. The only member of staff available was a cleanrer, who was very helpful and got our breakfast for us. There was a wedding reception on Saturday, and the tables were arranged so that the access from the accommodation to the dining room was blocked.

Excellent, good choice. Everything freshly cooked. Would have preferred ordinary bread but sourdough is the IN thing but we should have asked. The evening meals are amazing , spoilt for choice. Wish we lived closer just to eat there. Well done toTessa and her staff .

It’s a shame there’s not lounge area as I found the seats a bit hard after a while so took our drinks up to our room as that had armchairs in it.
