Canterbury Black Horse

The staff are really flexible and lovely. I had a family emergency and they were very flexible in booking us in three weeks later. I thought this was very empathetic of them and greatly appreciated it. The bed was really comfy and the breakfast was also very tasty. All in all very friendly and thoughtful staff with a nice place to stay that is in a quiet area yet in walking distance to the town centre.

It was a really hot day and our room was sweltering, even with the window open. The staff had tried to mitigate this by leaving fans in the room, which would have worked fine, but on settling in to the room as soon as I plugged in the kettle the whole system tripped. There was no fuse in the room so I told the staff and said it was a simple case of resetting the fuse. We had to sit outside as it was so hot and didn't hear anything for 45 minutes- it turns out they'd called an electrician instead for what was a simple fix and suggested to me that I'd spilled water on the plug. Nonetheless the problem was resolved and they did offer for us to use the kettle in the breakfast area.

This is my second time staying at the Black Horse. It is a lovely, well maintained, comfortable quiet place to stay. There's fresh fruit to be had while heading out the door. There's a book shelf to take from, and lots of visitor information. The place is close to everything. The two rooms I stayed in had a fridge and were cozy. The bed was comfortable and the proprietor delightful. The wi fi and water pressure were strong. They have a flair for organizing a room well. A very good place to stay. There's outlets all over the place.

On my second visit, I drew the basement. I thought the room was fine, and I was just passing through this time, but it was substantially more cramped than the first time, and there was no view. If you can, avoid the basement. But if you can't, that room is just fine as well. Still far better than lots of places I stayed. I actually liked the shower down there better, for one thing.

Extremely friendy and helpful staff! Breakfast was great and the room was cozy. Good location, close to the trainstation and the city.

You can hear the street and other residents quite well. The bed was a little short for tall people and a little worn out. The wooden frame at the top of the bed was just put there loose and made loud noise when you moved in the bed.

Very clean bathroom, lovely linen and towels, location was good for us. Breakfast was freshly cooked and lovely. Friendly staff. I had to message the host a few times before the trip as we had to change travel dates and times. Always responded quickly.

Stairs up to our room were a little steep but it wasn't really a problem.

It was close to the center, about (5-10mins) and similar distance to the station. The room itself was wonderful and even had private access to the garden. The staff at the reception was friendly and after we were shown the room, we weren't disturbed by anyone or anything as the location was quiet and relaxing.

Breakfast and location were both very good

We had a ground floor room that faced onto the street and so was a bit noisy. Also we couldn't adjust the heating and it got a bit stuffy. Bed was very clean and comfey and the bathroom/shower was fine with good pressure and plenty of hot water

Great location, comfortable, warm room, reasonable price. Nice homely property with an easy check in and check out system

Corridors and stairs can be a little tight with luggage but this is the design of the old building and kinda adds to the charm of the Inn

Heating: took a while to warm up on first morning, However room very warm on second night’s stay

Perfect central location, very close to the venue we were visiting to. Our room was really quaint & very comfortable.
