Canterbury Hotel

The pool, garden and breakfast were superb and made our stay. This is now our favourite hotel in Canterbury (we have stayed in several good ones). The pool was glorious after a hot day in the car, as was sitting in the garden. Breakfast was well done with a generous choice to suit taste and appetite (buffet style selecting what we wanted). The bed was comfortable, the secondary glazing did an excellent job of masking traffic noise from the busy road and the staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel is an easy direct walk into the city centre (and our favourite pub The White Hart) or there is a beautiful river side route next to Aldi. We will definitely be staying again. The room was generous with a large en suite, and was bright and airy (even on hot nights). On site parking was also a bonus. Oh, and did I mention that the pool was fabulous.

Nothing to not like. The only minor issue (and it was minor) was that the WiFi was not the strongest or most reliable - not a problem for us, so we didn't raise it.

The suite on the second floor has the perfect layout for a couple travelling with two young adult children. The slightly vintage style of the room was interesting for wife and children who haven't grown up in Europe. Breakfast was very good, but they were sometimes slow in replacing finished items. The personnel was polite and correct, although sometimes a little gumpy, as to illustrate the image of the perfect Englishmen to the perfect tourist. Not all English visitors were equally polite though. The cookies and tea in the room were highly appreciated.

Noise! Cars on the front side, seagulls on the back and a hot room which forces you to keep the windows open all night. WiFi is provided by messenger pigeons, which can be seen all over town, but seemed to be on a strike.

Clean, recently refurbished and new owners (I believe), dog friendly, including at breakfast time, nice pool where you can relax, 10min walk to city centre, parking (limited) available in the hotel yard. Breakfast is great, fresh and they serve from full english breakfast, toast bread, cereals, marmalades, to nice fruits salads and juices, coffee. The staff are super good, but I need to give 10 stars with special thank you to Radu from reception, Jasmine who offered us delicious breakfasts and Bogdan the head chef. They made it feel like home and put so much soul/heart into their job to make their guests happy. Rare attitude. I hope the managers / owners are reading this.

Car park is a bit tight and involves negotiating other cars but that can't really be helped. Otherwise all good.

Breakfast was nicely different as it was served as a buffet breakfast. However, there was not enough food for the guests arriving 20 minutes before closing time, so there might be something to be done to improve that. The property has a pool, it is small, but very nice adding to the usual stay and opening hours were good as well enabling to use it. There is a very nice little garden on the property, where there are nice chairs to sit on and relax. The staff at the reception was very helpful. As in most of the hotels in UK, this one also accepted pets and made our dog feel good as well.

The breakfast buffet should be available during the time it has been advertised to be, which means that there is the same food and drink offer available whether you come earlier or later. A big minus is the lack of air conditioning or a fan that could help to sleep during the warm summer weather. It is not the best option to open the window as the noise from the street will then disturb you.

The hotel was easy to find and I thought the car park was good, although small. Staff were friendly and the room (No 2) was nice and clean with a smart bathroom. Plenty of fluffy towels were provided for the excellent shower (which was really easy to use). We enjoyed breakfast, which had a nice selection of jams and, I thought, particularly tasty scrambled egg. We also liked the pretty flowery courtyard (late May visit) in front of the swimming pool.

A couple of minor points. Our bed was a little unsupportive and both of us woke up with achy backs. The WiFi was sufficiently poor as to be not working.

The room was spacious and very clean. Perfect for our family of 4. Breakfast was very generous and delicious, particularly loved scrambled eggs, the chef clearly knows how to cook them for perfect texture and my husband loved the sausages. Had a couple of spa treatments too which were superb. Our 7 year old son loved the swimming pool, definitely the highlight of our stay here.

The only thing that has let it down slightly was no WiFi in our room (No 1) as unfortunately it was out of the router’s reach. We had to go to the bar to use the internet.

Wonderfully close to most everything you would want to see! Terrific folks were running the place - everyone wears several hats! Front desk staff were all helpful, friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was yummy and the sweet woman running the meal was delightful. The rose garden was in FULL bloom and spectacular! Everyone on staff seemed to live their job and it really showed. Amazing hotel with a beautiful garden and great indoor pool, very clean and well maintained. Helpful and friendly staff, very comfortable bed, large and soft towels and good breakfast. Huge bathtub in our room, but the shower didn't have good pressure. Very good shower in the pool area though. Pretty close to train station (east) and just a 10 minutes walk to the high street. Had a great stay, thank you!

A bit of traffic noise from the street. It didn't bother us, but worth mentioning. Breakfast could use more fruit options.

Breakfast was wonderful, staff very friendly, make you feel welcome. Park right across the street to take little doggie. Overall the place is very well run and you feel the "care" in the place. Nice feeling when a place is cared for and not run down.

I know there was no way to control such a thing, but on the first nite stay I couldn't sleep because 2 men someplace in the hotel had been drinking and were loudly conversing/slurring/swearing till 3am. So it wasn't a quiet room.

It was very clean and the rooms were a great size. It’s a 15 minute walk into the centre of Canterbury so not far at all. It has a car park, although it’s rather tight! The pool is lovely, but could be warmer. It has a lovely shower room for after the swim. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The staff were attentive and friendly. There’s an outdoor area to sit in if the weather is good. There’s a children’s playground across the road.

The mattresses were too hard.
