If you are looking for an authentic English experience in a historical building, then the Sun Hotel is the place to stay. We loved the fact that Dickens stayed here. The rooms are a quinticential example of period charm; cozy and quirky, but with the convience of wifi and USB charging ports. The central location means everything is within walkable distance. We plan to return to explore Canterbury and Whitstable, which is only a 20 minute drive away. Our fantastic hosts ensured we had a wonderful stay. Thank you both for making us so welcome. The hotel is brilliantly place a stones throw from the cathedral itself. The staff welcomed us and explained some of the history behind the hotel, which still as a listed building has original features. The room was warm even though there's no double glazing. The breakfast was super with nice sausages which is always a good measure of the quality! It was extremely good value for money!
As the staff had already told us this isn't really a dislike, but something you would like to know before booking, as the windows are original, and not double glazed, the street got noisy at throwing out time...and we're were woken buy the late night night revellers.

The Sun was an excellent place to stay. The building, staff, rooms, and breakfast were all fantastic! An amazing attention to detail from the staff, from fresh flowers daily to making sure everything with our stay was pleasant. Highly recommend

The location is just amazing! A stone's throw from the Cathedral, and our bedroom (The Cathedral Room) was clean and so striking, with all original features: you can actually glimpse the Cathedral tower from the window. A wonderful weekend treat, perfect to visit town and enjoy its best restaurants. Staff were lovely and helpful, the restaurant downstairs a lovely added bonus, as is the free breakfast.

slightly cold overnight and noise from the street - but we were not very much bothered by that due to short stay. alternative milk at breakfast would be helpful

The owner was absolutely fantastic - went well out of his way to make us comfortable and even let us into the room early to change for the wedding we were going to. Something he really didn’t have to do! The facilities were all brand new and the bed was extremely comfortable. And it’s right in the centre of town! The value for money is incredible.

Location was perfect - a few steps away from the Cathedral (one of the main purposes for our visit) and close to many shops and restaurants. Breakfast was included in the booking and was excellent. Extremely friendly, attentive and helpful service throughout the stay. the hotel has just been refurbished and is idiosyncratically stylish.
