The Evenhill

This was a great discovery: a great-value place to stay (I paid £75 for two, breakfast included) within easy reach (half an hour's drive through the Kent countryside) of the Channel Tunnel. The rooms are unexpectedly well equipped and kept spotlessly clean. The restaurant food is very good and the breakfast was the best I had during this trip to the UK, including in a hotel that cost me £200 more for the night! I ordered kippers with poached egg expecting one or two fillets, but the plate was piled high with fish. The whole experience here seemed marked by a spirit of generosity, and the staff were welcoming, cheerful and efficient. Important points for some: ample free parking, and dogs are welcome (including in the pub) for five pounds more.

I can't think of anything that could be improved.

Easy to check in, lovely staff, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was lovely and we ate there each night too and it was excellent. We took our dog Max and they made every effort to see to Max as much as us, even remembering his name even though there were other dogs there.

Coming home!

Food was excellent, the breakfast very good and the evening meal, exactly as we thought it would be. A very efficient friendly welcome for us and our dog. A nice clean well furnished room with good comfy bed and air conditioned and easy to operate controls.

Nothing to comment on, all was very good standard.

When we booked, I had not realised that the accommodation was in a separate block to the pub and this was a good thing - I have stayed in pubs before where you do not get much peace due to the noise below. The rooms were very clean and had all the things you would expect, tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, spare pillows etc. The bathroom had a bath with shower over with great water pressure and complimentary toiletries. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was good. Great scrambled eggs! Evening meal was ok but over priced. Staff were all amazing. So helpful, friendly and accommodating. Can’t fault them at all. Our room was clean and tidy.

Evening meal was ok but over priced. Steak and ale pie tasted great but ruined by cheap gravy! Steak was really good but accompaniments a let down. Including very runny sauce. Disappointing. Our room was very small. Not ideal for my disabled partner who is on crutches. He was unable to shower as there was no where for him to sit safely which isn’t ideal, luckily it was only 2 nights. The tv wouldn’t run Netflix using the hotels WiFi I had to hotspot my phone. The mugs provided didn’t fit with the coffee machine which did actually make us laugh a bit. For £100 a night I expected more.

Food was delicious at every meal, staff were the friendliest I have ever known at any hotel and I am 76 years old so have stayed in a few hotels in those years. Never came away from a break feeling so contended. My Daughter and i were away for a weekend together for the first time ever and the staff made it sublime. we will be back

Only small comment is we would rather have milk pods in our rooms, milk is in a flask each day but not ideal. Not a real problem as when I go again I will take long life milk pods with me.

This rather strange pub / with separate accommodation, (barn conversion), at first seemed unlike the pictures, but in truth it worked very well. The pub, across the large free car park served delicious meals and the breakfasts were excellent. The rooms were clean and no pressure from service/cleaning staff, which we prefer, (there if you want it!). Helpful bar staff were a fountain of knowledge when it came to bus time tables etc.

Maybe an extension of breakfast times (especially at weekends)...the trek across the car park needed outdoor clothing and weather gear .. (they were happy to provide a takeaway option).

The restaurant is charming and the food is fantastic! The staff is lovely. My mother has mobility issues and everyone was so kind to help accommodate her. Since there was a last-minute cancellation, they changed her room to the ground floor at no extra cost. The hotel itself is a bit outdated and could use some upgrades, but overall it's comfortable and you have all the basic necessities you need. It's a great place to stay and I would stay here again.

The location was so good. it was beautiful and room was clean with comfy beds. a bus stop to Canterbury is right in front of the facility. the staff were the kindest. all of them were very friendly and helpful in every way they could. they called for a taxi for us helped with our baggages and even packed delicious breakfast for us since we didn’t have enough time to have it at the hotel. one of the best stays i’ve evert had and definitely recommend. 11/10
