Hampton by Hilton Canterbury

Breakfast was very good….,though the serving of breakfast seemed a bit stressful for staff….with the turnover of crockery …topping up coffee etc. staff were very friendly and very accommodating. I would be happy to stay here again. It was a treat for us …we generally look for a less expensive hotel …but the location was terrific near the station and the historic centre. I liked the decor.

I would have liked more emphasis on climate issues. Eg not changing towels everyday when you are only there for a weekend. Having openable windows instead of having to rely on air con. Encouraging people to arrive by train (hotel shuttle to the station perhaps) I’m sure there lots of other ideas to be greener….I wonder about your food waste?

Breakfast was excellent including very different components and tastes. The location is also perfect, it is in the city center. The room is large and quiet and the bathroom is new style. The beds are very comfortable. Our towels were clean and changed nearly every day if we wanted.

However, we had a reservation due to the strike action on August 26 and 01 September, we could not stay for these two nights. Our refund request was rejected, despite this extraordinary and unexpected situation. Because of this situation, we overpaid and were victimized because no refund was made.

Location, cleanliness, good choice of breakfast and pleasant staff

The hotel could do with a clear map locator of the hotel entrance from the suggested parking place. We arrived in the evening but the postcode given for the multi story car park took us at the back of a closed gate. Not a pleasant experience after a long drive and wet evening. 1st night was uncomfortable to sleep as the room was too warm and temperature could not be adjusted from the thermostat in the room. I rang the reception early hours and was told by staff that temperature regulator will be adjusted from the reception desk. I had to ring twice and staff came up to check herself. Im not sure why the thermostat could not be adjusted in the room.

A great central location, close to shops and bars and a very short walk to Canterbury cathedral. The reception staff were very helpful and took their time to explain everything. They were very professional when dealing with my complaint over the housekeeping. The hotel was very clean and tidy, a good priced bar and an excellent all you can eat buffet breakfast. Lots of choice and fresh hot items added all the time. An extra bonus was the waffle maker!.

The housekeeper knocking once and came into our room, while my partner was in a state of undress. This was at 8:40 on a Saturday morning and again at 10:20. This distressed my partner and made us feel rushed to leave the hotel.

The location was superb. The staff helpful and pleasant.

The breakfast was fair. I was not aware that the hotel is situated in a non-traffic road. This was an inconvenience as my husband has walking restrictions and can not carry much luggage. In the end, we slowly managed to bring our luggage. We picked this hotel because of standards of the Hilton Hotels. Sadly, this hotel did not quite match our expectations. We will be more careful when booking Hilton hotels again, it appears that ONE Star makes a huge difference! We were delighted when staying in the Hilton Bournemouth, will return there again. We certainly have recommended it to friends. We would recommend the Hilton Canterbury for lots of good reasons but feel the breakfast could be improved, ie. fresh fruit smoothies, poached eggs. Just a suggestion.

The design is fresh and new, but respectful to the historical legacy (loved the glass floor showing the remains of the Roman theatre under the building). The location is great. Very helpful staff. Great rooftop bar The Socialite - try the Pornstar Martini cocktail) and use a discount card for the hotel guests) The parking problem is taken care of: the hotel guests have a discount (in our case it was no charge at all) at the Whitefriars car parking nearby.

The mattress was a bit too hard for me. Coffee at the breakfast was not good. The breakfast closes at 11 on weekend, but at 10 am the buffet already looked half empty and not neat. The price rate is a bit higher than average for this location.

Breakfast was good as far as it went: full English, yoghurt, cereal etc. The rooms were clean, shower was great and beds were comfy. The location is perfect, and the twist in the lobby was neat - I won't spoil the surprise but it was smart. As is the hotel as a whole.

The breakfast lounge coffee machine had broken, but the hotel gave my partner a free coffee at the bar when she asked. More fruit at breakfast would have been nice! The information about parking needs to be clearer: you park in the Whitefriars multi-storey 3 minutes' walk away, and the hotel charges you £15 for (roughly) the 24 hour period - which was perfectly fine but needed stating clearly.

The room was cold during the nights, and I couldn't increase the temperature higher than 24 degree Celsius although it didn't feel 24 degrees inside, it was colder They didn't provide a hairdryer as I need it during winter. I asked them for it but they didn't accommodate me There was a very big TV inside the room but it was not connected to the internet which I believe makes it useless There is no fridge inside the room, I don't consider it a drawback, but if I'm meant to give 10/10, I expect this amenity

We were very disappointed that although we discussed at length and tried to obtain information for our train journey to London the next day, no-one even mentioned the ongoing strike. After unsuccessfully trying to contact southwestern rail at a number provided by the hotel and buying tickets online, we ended up at the train station after the last train had left shortly after lunch. Felt like everybody else except ourselves was aware of the industrial action, a shame the hotel did not mention it. Also, before our arrival, there was absolutely no way to get in touch over the phone, but that one did not cause us too much distress.

The hotel was excellent valuse for money. It is centrally located and easy to find. There is car parking within a two minute walk and it is priced reasonably for a 24hour period (£15). The room was large enough to accommodate us all comfortably and the bathroom was clean and had a good shower. The breakfast was self service and the selection available was extensive, hot and cold drinks, cereals, fruit, cold meats and cheeses, waffles, pastries and the full English as well. Located in Caterbury it is also a great place to use as a stop over on the way to the shuttle to France and beyond.

There was a strange smell in the reception area that seemed to enter from outside and lingered. Only complaint about breakfast was that the food could have done with being hotter, but this always seems to be the case with self service type breakfasts. The only disappointing item on the breakfast was the hash brown, they were strangly shaped, thick and as a result not thouroughly cooked through.
