Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa

Lovely service from the moment we entered the hotel. No stuffiness just cheerful, helpful staff. Beautiful decor. They apologised that there may be a little noise from a party but that it wd finish at 8.30. Liked the fact they anticipated that might be our worry.

In the spa there was a constant beeping noise from machinery. Luckily the weather was gorgeous so we cd be outside and avoid the noise.

Very pleasant hotel, with spacious rooms, excellent restaurant and friendly /efficient staff. The hotel has been recently refurbished and has a high standard for room design and comfort. The restaurant experience was mostly good. The food, in particular, was very well cooked and presented.

Service in the restaurant was a bit hit ’n miss . We had to remind the waiting staff that we had ordered our wine, before it finally reached our table.The wait between courses was rather long, but it was more than compensated by the quality of everything.

Everything, the rooms even the "basic " ones were exceptionally well equipped, large and comfortable , the food was fabulous, the staff wonderful, it was an incredible experience, they cater for special diets, it was the ideal place to relax The spa is very good and it is an exeptional hotel well run and caters for all your needs be aware there are lots of stairs so if you have mobility issues ask for a ground flooor roon.

The wifi connection wasnt great and my TV kept shuttiong out.

The staff were all so friendly and happy to help in any way they could. The food was incredible, unlike anything we had eaten before. The flavours were so intense and the portions were just right too. A huge commendation to the Chef and team. We used the Spa facilities which were outstanding. We really enjoyed the outside pool area as we had a very unexpected heatwave for two of the days. Changing facilities were very good too with fabulous showers. We loved the rainfall shower by the main pool although this would be improved further if rainforest sounds were also played. Our room was lovely we stayed in a Cosy room which was a great size and the bathroom was lovely. We found the bed extremely comfortable and both had a couple of very good nights sleep. The crockery used in the bedroom was beautiful and homemade biscuits a welcome touch too. Breakfast was delicious with full English on offer alongside the usual continental selection. I didn't manage a full breakfast on the second morning as I was still full from the meal the night before! All in all we had a fabulous stay, although for us it was rather expensive it was definitely value for money considering the high level of service, food and the Spa. Thank you!

For us it was a very special occasion, our Silver Wedding Anniversary. We came back to this hotel as it meant a lot to us having spent the first two nights of our Honeymoon here 25 years ago. It would have been a lovely touch if the staff had acknowledged this with a card in our room or other simple touch. I had made the hotel aware during a phone call of the occasion but I guess this info wasn't passed on.

The facilities and team are great. Can't help but love the beautifully appointed rooms and facilities

The only issue was as there was a wedding in and I expect all the staff busy I didn't manage to get served in the bar on the last night. Minor issue and I am sure if I had gone in pursuit of a gin and tonic someone would have helped me !

The restaurant was excellent - delicious food and friendly, helpful staff. Our room was comfortable and quaint with a modern attractive bathroom. The public rooms were charming, beautifully decorated and with fresh flowers and fireplaces. The gardens and grounds were lovely. Although we did not use the spa it looked amazing.

The room could had done with brighter lighting. A sign indicating the low door lintels would be helpful as my husband had a nasty bang on his head when he forgot to duck.

Lovely hotel. The spa is fantastic and the staff is super friendly (breakfast staff in particular). Great comfy bed.

Room is on the small side. The pics show it exactly as it is but it would be difficult to spend more than one night due to its size. Would be difficult in winter in particular as there is no where to hang coats and/or wet bath towels.

The hotel is beautiful and feels special. The staff work hard and were as efficient as they were able to be. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The view from our window was stunning.

The lack of information at our arrival about what was available to us. For example we weren't told at that point about the list of local walks available, the restaurant staff mentioned that just before we left. The fact that we left our phone chargers behind and they haven't been found. The very slow service at breakfast. The strange wiring in our room that meant that to have one bedside light on the bulb had to be removed from the doorway light.

We got a free upgrade from a cosy room to a spa suite.

2 course dinner £55! Priced themselves out of the market. Plus the main courses only had 3 options, pork, vegetarian or fish. We ate at the Talbot pub instead which served good food but we would have preferred to stay in the hotel. Spa facilities great but separate from the hotel and also open to the public. Plus you check in at 3pm, then kids hour at the pool is between 4 & 5! The Alexander House Hotel (which we have stayed at a few times) would rank much higher, private spa, well priced dinner menu. Value for money, we payed £230 for a cosy room and got upgraded to a spa suite, which we were very grateful for, however, the spa rooms full price at £400+ is not value for money.

Absolutely beautiful manor in a gorgeous little village The property was super clean and we can’t say enough about the cheerful helpful very friendly staff. The gym is small but perfectly adequate for a hotel Wonderful spa facilities. And the food was incredible in taste and presentation. Can’t wait to go back and stay longer next time :)

Not much to say negatively about the property If I had to find something it would be the times slots in the spa for family time (children) We love children but having four of our own ( two being severely disabled ) and have a night away respite to celebrate our anniversary we thought the times could be planned slightly later. Ie in stead of 10-11 am maybe 11-12am The afternoon slot was so bad but like us a few adults wanted to workout in the gym them go for a swim and steam room but the pool was already full by 10am with excited children so having a swim was impossible sadly.
