The Cumberland Hotel

Room was nice, with a good view of the beach & bandstand. Staff were all pleasant and the bar area comfortable. The hotel was ideally placed for us as we were performing on the bandstand over the weekend, just a few steps across the road!

Would have been nice to have some fresh fruit and croissants as a breakfast option, but the food that was there was good. We didn't ask for a quiet room (as stated in the bonus question), so there was noise with people on the beach during the night, but that wasn't really a big issue for us. However the room was very hot - is there a way to leave the window open to refresh the room without the seagulls getting in - some net curtains perhaps?

As always the staff were very kind and polite and helpful I go there as a sight impaired person with my my assistance dog who is training and I always find them most hospitable. I was no when I go there that I will receive a warm and kind and personal reception and I know they will look after me with my eyesight they help me find my room they are very understanding and I think they are all great people even the night porter he was very kind when my dog needed to go out to the toilet in the middle of the night thank you Cumberland you are all great

What is there not to like

Good location, close to the station and the seafront/pier. Beds were comfortable and staff were friendly. Really good value for money!

Interior decor is a bit outdated and the bathroom was small and could do with some refurbishments. Breakfast period is short and we were not told at check-in that reservations for breakfast were needed. But staff did quickly resolve the issue and we were able to have a lovely warm breakfast in the end. But would recommend to book breakfast in advance!

The reception staff were so kind and helpful. also the bar staff. very pleasant room, more spacious than I would expect for a single room. the room was warm - too warm, but soon aired. There was activities and events both nights I stayed. Breakfast had great choice. I am vegan and the chef very kindly organised vegan sausages. I bought my little dog who was generally fussed over and cared for. Really excellent stay.

The room was very cosy, and the bathroom was huge! Everything was very clean and tidy, and the view was impeccable. Excellent value for money! The location was perfect and the staff were very friendly and helpful!

The bed was a little uncomfortable, and the shower was a bit difficult to use. It also had a shower curtain, which ought to be replaced with a glass screen. The walls were a little thin too. Otherwise it was a great stay!

I love the staff at the Cumberland they are a fantastic team they are extremely caring and helpful and friendly

I didn't particularly like the food it was of a low quality I had one nice dish but the rest was absolutely rubbish...lol... The serving staff were lovely and got me some ready-made sorbet for afters which was really nice but the meal cooked by the chef I don't know what he was thinking of it was so bland it was so bad...lol

Daily maid service, friendly staff, great location, quiet. Bag storage available. Room decor a very nice plush quality. Good wifi, with password given on first page of welcome booklet!

Perhaps a fan in the room will be needed in high summer. Bathroom a little old, and small. All plugs only at floor level.

Breakfast OK, dining room spacious. Sea views from front of hotel excellent. Staff very friendly.

Would like more choice at breakfast, eg. Variety of fruit, granary bread, pastries. Windows in room didn't open far enough as room was warm. Window in room high so needed a high table and high stools/chairs to enjoy sea view without standing up!

Excellent location for easy access to the seafront and town centre. Very friendly staff.

Lovely to have tea and coffee in the room . Element in kettle was rusting with bits of rust yvident in the boiled water! I wasn’t sure if it presented a health hazard.

The location was on the sea front in walking distance to the pier,shops,amusements pubs and resturants.The staff were helpful and friendly. Mike the night porter was always good humoured and greeted us in a polite and friendly manner each time we returned.

There was no sign or method to make the cleaning maid aware that the occupants preferred not to be disturbed.
