Breakfast excellent, good quality, quantity and staff very pleasant. Single room very good, quiet, Evening meals looked to be good and value for money.

Stepping in out of bath was difficult as no suitable non slip surface. and going from one height to a lower height disrupts normal balance. I miscalculated my departure date and was allowed to keep room However receptionist when I returned to hotel was officious making me wait to ensure I paid for the room before I was allowed back into it. I had an armful of equipment and advised her I would drop off the equipment and come back down and pay. NO was the answer. I had been there a week and my suitcase etc was in the room. So I was not going to run off. This soured my visit. In general the reception staff did not recognise guests after several days which was disappointing .

Room was a good size. Breakfast was excellent. Had Sunday roast which is great value for money. Large plates filled with more than enough food and great number of roast potatoes! Had a Yorkshire with every choice of meat. The crispy chicken goujons are a must have! Too big to be called goujons but absolutely lovely. Staff at breakfast and dinner were superb, very helpful and friendly. Hotel is situated in an ideal place for Fareham centre and parking is free if staying at the hotel. Great place to visit local surroundings, Wickham is a lovely place to visit and only 10 minutes by car but did see a bus when we were there going to Fareham.

Could do with a lift or help with getting case up to 2nd floor. Shower was in the bath and water leaked all over the floor, a glass panel instead of a shower curtain would be better. Couldn't get the wi-fi to work anywhere in the hotel.

We stayed at the Red Lion over Christmas. Our room was very spacious. it had a double bed and two single beds with a good distance between them. so despite having 4 beds in the room there was still plenty of space. It is very good value for money. But what made our stay perfect was the lovely helpful staff. Breakfast was also decent. We didn’t have meals at the hotel as we had family living in Fareham but the menu looked good. The hotel and the rooms are clean. The rooms are a bit dated but the public areas such as the pub and the lobby are not. We would definitely stay here again if we ever need to stay at a hotel in Fareham again.

Comfy bed with nice linen. Slept well. Good deep bath, very relaxing (shower over it). Breakfast not applicable for me so no comment. Had a nice evening meal in the bar.

My own fault but I paid for parking when it was free for guests. I didn't fully read the sign in the dark so entered my reg and paid the 24hr price of £10 before I checked in, cold and dark so I didn't want to go out again. The reception said I could get the bar staff to take it off my meal bill. However, the bar till was set up to refund £1.50, the 3hr charge which non guests pay when using bar/restaurant then get reimbursed off their bill. So I wasted a bit of money, my own fault - out of practice after Covid. I know to ask next time/at other hotels. Staff were fine, nothing they could do about it.

Convenience of location. Our welcome and friendliness of staff. Warmth of the rooms and reception. Food was good.

Creaky floorboards! Bath/shower taps - these were almost impossible to turn on and then off. Lack of a net curtain at the window. We had to have the heavy curtains closed for privacy. At one point a window opposite us had their curtain open and we could see the occupant who was naked at the time. Overall the room was clean but the old pine furniture was marked so looked dirty. Bathroom was generally clean but someone needs to go in and give a deep clean. The build up of dust on the brackets of the radiator is evidence of months, possibly years, of not being cleaned. This is quite visible as you sit on the toilet so I wasn't searching for any dirt.

We were visiting friends nearby, The Red Lion had good reviews and was ideally located. My husband loves IPA beer so it was a winner. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. The lunch we had was OK, nothing special, beer was not really up to par but nothing really to complain about. Everything just average. Our room however, was a lovely surprise, very spacious and comfortable. We had decided to have the breakfast and so glad we did. It was exceptionally good value and absolutely delicious. I am vegetarian and was delighted to see they catered for that. It filled us for the whole day!

Shower was pretty poor, with no pressure so had to resort to having a bath instead. The room was also far too hot during the night ( for me anyway, I like a cool room for sleeping in) and as is usual nowadays, windows were sealed. The Red Lion could save a fortune by turning down the heating a few degrees!

2nd Recent stay to visit family. Lovely hotel with very hard working staff. Extremely comfy bed. Large room. Number 30. I left some clothes behind & were kindly posted back to me. Thank you to the receptionist.

The waste paper bin in the bedroom needs a good scrubbing as it definitely smelt iffy, but we didn't want to trouble the receptionist & sound like a complaining customer for something so small. The lighting isn't very bright. There are bedside lamps & on the desk, which are all very dim, so it was very hard to see what I needed to do at times. So that is the only reason I scored 9 out or 10. Everything else was fantastic.

Location, parking facilities, the restaurant food and, of course, the friendly staff. Piping hot water in the bathroom and the bonus of a bath. Very comfortable bed and quiet nights meant a great sleep.

Decor could be updated, but the daily cleaning was excellent. A niggle was the absence of power sockets anywhere near the bed, I like to recharge my tablet overnight but still have it available for reading in bed. The only sockets were at the far side of the room, not convenient.

Very convenient location in the centre of town with free, on-site parking for hotel guests. Easy access to M27 motorway. Well appointed room with all the facilities we needed for a 3-night stay, but this is an old building, so expect squeaky floorboards. We loved the character of the building, especially in the bar and reception area. We booked a B&B rate. There were a lot of food options for breakfast and so we felt the room rate represented very good value for money. On the day of arrival, we also paid for dinner in the hotel's restaurant and thought it was very good. The photos we viewed prior to booking accurately reflected the bedroom we had, which was quite traditional with all the facilities we needed, including tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was very comfortable.

Because of the age of the building, there is no lift. We were in room 21, so had to take our suitcases up 2 flights of stairs. Our room had a shower over a bath, which was high to get in and out of, so anyone with mobility issues should ask if a room with a walk-in shower is available instead.

On arrival the staff were very friendly and explained everything well. you put you car registration in at the hotel to avoid paying the car park fees. We booked one double and one single, the single was lovely however the double was a lot more beautifully done. Breakfast was included with plenty available. The local shopping center is literally 5 minutes walk, along with some nightlife, we did not hear any noise in the evening from the local area. When visiting the area again we will be returning to this hotel.
