The location for our needs prior to the Gosport Half Marathon, the bedroom and bathroom (especially the excellent shower), the price, but above all staff member John who cannot be praised too highly. We were travelling from London and having been stuck in heavy traffic, knew we couldn’t not make the 10:00pm last check in time. We phoned the hotel, John answered and said he would wait for us. When we finally arrived he helped us with our luggage and because we had an early start offered to make us a breakfast sandwich to take with us to the race. John was brilliant and a credit to your organisation.

Everything was perfect.

Room was clean, spacious and modern also lots of windows with good light. Bathroom was big and with a deep tub which was different. Bed was comfortable and room wasn't too stuffy - the hotel did provide a fan which was helpful during the midday sun. Breakfast was quickly served, fresh and not too oily. Also the hotel's within walking distance to the beach. I was on business so didn't have time to check out the local town. The only quibble was working in the room - as the desk wasn't really set up for work in the room. But for couples and family there's room enough. Can't fault the location and for the price offered great value for money. Also cleanliness was top notch, no mould or dust especially with my allergies. Iron was bit dusty but probably not used in a while.

desk space but I was on business

Great value for money, clean and had most things we needed. Suited us that the breakfast wasn’t included as we were leaving early for the ferry to IoW. Only improvement needed was better pillows (quite flat/hard) and needed a small bottle of water in the room for each of us. It was very hot and we didn’t both drink tea/coffee. A fan would of been useful as we stayed in Sep 23 when it was in the low 30’s. The owner even drove us down to the ferry to go across to Portsmouth for the evening but I think that was just lucky timing .

Kirstie was an excellent host - friendly, and fun. Breakfasts were great, tho a bit too early for our liking!

The info on booking.com is inaccurate - there is no restaurant at the Old Lodge, and nowhere to eat open within reasonable walking distance. Not Kirstie's fault - she says she has told booking.com to alter their info several times. She seemed to be running the place single-handed - doing a great job, but it meant that bar opening times were limited, and we had to book very early slots for breakfast.

Lovely friendly host and bright clean room.bed was good and coffee provided. We had a car but not sure how you would go without one. Easy walk into a lovely village for pubs, supermarket and a couple of cafes. Nice outdoor seating area to enjoy a drink from the bar. At hosts recommendation we went to pebbles on the beach. Food was sensational here and live music was on.

Breakfast is served but no other meals.

Room was spacious and well-turned out. Everything was clean. In comparison to a standard Premiere inn, this was a bigger room and with more character. I was charmed by Kirsty, who took time to say hello, as I checked in earlier in the day.

As it is an old lodge, be prepared for some slight disturbance from other guests as they move around (old wooden floors) and some doors do bang quite loudly, so some soft-shut options could be added to those to remove that disturbance.

Lovely welcome and help up the stairs with our suitcases. Room was lovely and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in! Breakfast was excellent. Portions at both dinner and breakfast were very generous. Staff /owner very cheerful and helpful.

It was quite cold - where we had dinner and lunch were fine just cold. Bathroom could possibly do with a heated towel rail, just meant the towels were still damp in the morning. Couldn't connect to the internet, however that may have been me!

Our second visit to the Old Lodge as we loved it last year we decided to book again this year. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the Old Lodge is situated in a quiet area of Gosport. Pub downstairs but you can't hear any noise from the room despite it being busy. Ideally situated for the beach, (10 minute walk if that), and not far from the town, a short drive or a short journey on the local bus, (you do need to walk a few minutes to the nearest bus stop not an issue for myself and my partner) or you could use a local taxi service. Breakfast was lovely. Lift available for if you have trouble with stairs.

Lack of car parking was our main issue as when we arrived there was something going on in the village and the hotel car park was full. However later in the day and the following day was no problem as plenty of safe street parking spaces, I'm sure if you're disabled you just need to let the hotel know in advance and you would be able to park closer to the entrance. The only other thing was just personal preference and that was the mattress on the bed was too hard but I did sleep well regardless. I can't think of anything else as everything else was spot on for me.

We had booked all but one of the 11 rooms in the hotel for a family get together. The outside had many tables to take drinks in the sun. We had a three course dinner at the hotel which was excellent. Food was plentiful, hot and delivered timely. We all had the full English buffet breakfast the following which included all items in the continental selection. Sausages and fried bread was great!

Really nice and friendly, handy to walk or drive to town with range of bars, eateries and views over the water. I have heard people write reviews even when they don't show which can be less than flattering which is harsh but having stayed I felt it ticked all the boxes and great value for money

nothing to add - you know when you book what to expect, and it beet my expectations.
