Great location, close to so many places of interest and to the train and bus station. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the Hotel Restaurant was a lovely setting with great food of good value. I would recommend highly. Our room was clean and attended to daily by housekeeping staff. We would stay again if visiting Portsmouth.

Unfortunately, one of the windows in our room looked out onto an unpleasant fire escape and the expel tower from the kitchen and brick walls. This would not stop me recommending the hotel at all but, just to be aware that the rear views aren’t great. You may want to request a sea view. Otherwise, there was nothing to dislike.

Our rooms were both comfortable and very clean . The en-suite was also spotless . I loved the location as I could view all of the activity in the harbour ( ship /boat nerd 😌) Also very close to Trains , Buses and Gunwharf Quays which has many great outlet shops and restaurants. The very best thing about The Keppels head is the staff , absolutely nothing is to much trouble for them , be that parking information, late night cups of tea in the bar when you roll back from The Victorious festival 🙂 This stay definitely enhanced our Festival experience and we will definitely be back next year . Breakfast was also great .

The location was great very close to gunwharf quays and shops. Bus stop just outside the hotel. The restaurant Sunday roast was delicious and good prices. The breakfast was good too. Room was provided with an aircon in the room and the renovated bathroom had a good shower. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

The room was really small, there was no wardrobe but just hangers and a few drawers. The bed was very small for a double bed. It was a bit of a maze to get to the room and the lock on the door didn't feel very secure as you had to double check if you closed it properly. You can see that they updated the bathrooms but the rest of the hotel would need updating too. The towels weren't replaced even though we followed the hotel policy to leave them on the floor/in the shower.

Staff lovely and very friendly from reception to room cleaners to breakfast staff. Breakfast was excellent and didn't seem like anything had been reheated or refried in any way. Decent sausage and very nice poached egg with decent quality bacon. The room was lovely and had air conditioning which was needed on a hot day as it was. Nice pieces of furniture and was very comfortable to stay in.was also lovely to have a proper room key and not am electronic card as you always knew it would work!

The room was slightly overpriced compared to holiday inn etc in the area and there is no parking. For the price it would have been nice to have had biscuits with the tea and coffee making facilities

Nice old building, just across the road from the railway station and about 40 mins walk from the ferry arriving from Caen. The rooms were a good size and very comfortable. We've travelled through Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and France combining camping and Hotel stays and this is the best place we have stayed in, but also the most expensive. Chosen mainly due to the convenient location and a tight travel schedule but overall very pleased with choice. We didn't have breakfast but a vegetarian option was also available.

Across the road from the railway station so some noise at night.

The room, family size, was spacious, comfortable with a truly wonderful view and a very large window. It made staying in the room feel like a treat. The restaurant was exceptionally good. There are many options for food in the vicinity, but the best we found was the hotel itself. The Captain's Table is a good one indeed. Nice room too.

Some little things are lacking when compared to modern hotel chains and the car park is not that easy or secure, but these faults are understandable given the location and history of the place. It's just a thing to keep in mind.

Great location right next to the RN Dockyard. Free parking. Very well decorated and kept very clean. Nice bathroom. Friendly staff. 24hr bar. Good food served.

On this particular stay the hotel was very busy and someone made a decision to serve breakfast "Buffet" style. This did not work very well. I missed my poached eggs (I don't like hard boiled) 2 x toasters +1 x coffee machine plugged into 1 extension lead proved to be a disaster and no-one could toast their bread. OK so no-one starved to death, but we all had to listen to one or two over privileged people complaining rather loudly throughout breakfast and beyond.

We thought the staff were lovely and the atmosphere very welcoming. The food is generous, delicious and good value. There's a good breakfast menu and buffet options. The room was spotless, warm and comfortable. The location is brilliant - an easy walk to the Harbour Museum, Spinnaker Tower, City Museum, boat trips and shopping centre. There was also secure parking for residents. We would definitely stay again.

The only issue we had was occasional noise audible (e.g. showers) from other rooms. However, it is an old building retrofitted as a hotel so that's probably inevitable. It didn't spoil our stay at all.

It was in an excellent location, very central! The bathroom was amazing, great shower pressure. The view from our room was also incredible we could see right out to the water which was lovely.

The parking is awful, the space is very small and they have crammed too many spaces so it is extremely difficult to park when there are multiple car already parked. We ended up paying for parking elsewhere. We stayed in room 35 and the bathtub leaked causing water to fill the bathroom floor however it did not go in to the room and we just used a spare towel to dry the floor after showering.

All of the staff were very polite and friendly from the check in to the bar staff and the breakfast staff including the house keeping staff. The hotel is kept very clean and tidy. It has some beautiful period features. I had a single room with an ensuite bathroom which was very well decorated and enjoyed a nice large shower. The breakfast was good value for money, freshly cooked and served with a good choice of toast, cakes, cereals, drinks etc. I liked the free parking which is very hard to find these days. The hotel is ideally situated for the Dockyard, Gunwharf Quays the railway station and some lovely local eateries / pubs.

I think you would have to be a pretty mean person not to enjoy staying at this hotel.
