Hickman Hill Hotel

The property has a beautiful garden and is a stunning property, with a very welcoming entrance area. I’d been placed in a room more suited to my needs - getting ready for my wedding - at no extra cost. There was also a huge mirror to use. I was also offered a bacon butty in my room. The staff did bend over backwards to help. The room was comfortable, the bedding felt lovely and I slept very well.

In the bathroom there was a notice asking not to put anything but toilet paper into the toilet but no sanitary bin for disposal any other way. The only bin was in the main room and had no lid. I thought the room could have benefitted from more period style art work. The bright red clashed with the subtle grey wallpaper, as did the brown cushions.

I was given a warm welcome on arrival and by my first name which was a nice touch. The room was lovely, clean and warm. Fresh milk in a small fridge for my hot drinks. I had Eggs Royale for breakfast which was lovely and included in the price of my stay. Lovely service at breakfast very attentive and would highly recommend a stay here.

When I booked I wasn't aware that the hotel was closed on Sunday night so there was no access to the bar or food. Although I didn't want a drink from the bar, I had booked the nice hotel so that I could eat without having to go out anywhere as I was travelling alone. So it would be useful for the hotel to advise that their facilities are closed on a Sunday evening. That evening I ended up having snacks in my room.

Such a warm welcome awaits at Hickman Hill. We stayed in the Music Room on the ground floor which was beautifully decorated snd well-appointed. Only a short walk into town and a 5 minute drive to the golf course! We booked for dinner - and we were blown away! The Table d’hote menu is very good value for money - and the food was sublime! A fantastic dining experience from start to finish. Could not fault it at all. Such a lovely friendly couple who clearly put their heart and soul into their business. Breakfast was equally as good as dinner. Good quality produce and choice. Perfect end to a great stay. We will definitely return!

The room was well furnished, tidy, and a great TV, well placed. Food is excellent and plentiful and fresh, even the scampi being freshly made. Breakfast was great, the owners attentive and friendly. Surprised it is only rated 2 stars as it definitely top end of 3 star.

The bed was firmer than we prefer but the lady owner advised to book the Music room which has a softer bed. As she explained it is difficult to choose mattresses to please everyone.

Little hidden gem - beautifully updated rooms and bathrooms, website doesn't do it justice. Fantastic hosts who made me feel so welcome inviting me to join them for a drink with their friends, lovely little touches in rooms, fridge, fresh milk, orange juice and water, cotton wool and complimentary toiletries.... I would definitely stay here again

Not the best view from my room but didn't affect my stay in any way

To be fair we weren't expecting too much but the place exceeded expectations. From the size of the room to the pleasant grounds, not forgetting the great staff consisting of Courtney who was doing front of house, bar and dining room server duties plus of course the chef Colin who provided quality meals while we were there. The hotel deserves to be more popular than it seems.

Only one thing really, the hot water supply to the excellent shower was prone to running out by the time the second person was halfway through a shower

We've stayed at the hotel previously and found it to be a great hotel that's extremely well managed.. We had dinner with friends in the evening and the ambience and the meal was very well received by all.

The parking is limited but having said that it was sufficient for our stay and given it enjoys nice gardens, it would be a shame to turn them into a car park.

The whole experience was fantastic, after a tiring day we found a hidden gem in the Hickman Hotel. The best welcome, superb building and incredibly soothing environment. The gardens are so delightfully sculpted and provide shade, interest and are a delight to sit in before breakfast or a meal. The food was high quality and attention to detail is excellent. The history to the place is also a factor that the owners have lovingly utilised to make any visitor adore the place.

It is a lovely old building maintaining much of it's character, in easy reach of amenities. The bathroom was spacious and well appointed. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The staff were excellent. The chef made me a special dinner to meet my dietary requirements. Similarly the breakfast was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble.

The bedroom was a little cold despite the radiators being turned up full. It is an old schoolhouse building and understandable that it is difficult to insulate. There was plenty of bedding and therefore cosy for sleeping.

Our room was downstairs as my husband is unable to climb stairs.Breakfast was excellent and plenty to chose from. We had brilliant view from window out onto the beautiful garden. The staff were very helpful and friendly. A welcome mini fridge in the room was a good idea.The drinks prices at the bar were very reasonble .
