Great hotel, staff, bar, restaurant and great location for exploring! Do not be put off from seeing the hotel from the A1 - we wondered what on earth we had booked but as soon as we arrived, we realised it was a gorgeous hotel. Rooms were spacious, well decorated and spotless. As were the communal areas. Pub and restaurant were cracking, the food was amazing and reasonably priced. Loved that it was basically cooked to order and proper home cooked food. A telling sign of how good it is was the amount of locals who were there for a meal! Staff were great, really friendly, good fun, we could have a laugh with them, especially over the coffee machine that decided it didn’t want to work - we were banned from ordering coffee for the rest of our stay! We enjoyed our stay immensely and will definitely be looking to book again.

Water pressure in shower wasn’t great, if you turned water hotter, pressure was a bit low and not as strong as we would like. We did manage to get a good, strong jet but then the water was cold! Couldn’t work out why pressure seemed low especially as the hand basin was perfect!

The room was clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was great. Staff are very helpful and welcoming and made our stay lovely. When we first checked in we were given a room with a shower over a bath. Although a lovely room this didnt work for us due to my husbands knees. ( hard to climb in and out) They changed us to another room , with a walk in shower no problems. Great food at the hotel as well for dinner. Love the coffee , tea and biscuits as well

Change of towels and bedclothes only done now on request. I understand why but it is nice at a hotel to have regular changeovers. Wouldn't stop us staying again though

The room was comfortable and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The room was very quiet with no traffic noise despite being very close to the A1. The cooked breakfast was quite substantial (i.e. it meant you could go a long time before you needed another meal). We had meals on two evenings at the hotel, both delicious, generous portions, and the service was very good. All the staff were always cheerful and and pleased to help where needed. We would highly recommend this hotel, even with the closeness of the A1, you get the feeling of being in the middle of the countryside.

My wife seldom eats a cooked breakfast and it would have been helpful if there had been a wider choice of cereal, fruit etc. Though she did have poached eggs on toast one morning and the eggs were cooked perfectly served on thick toast.

We arrived late on the first night of our stay, but everyone was lovely and although the restaurant had closed for the night, they made us some sandwiches (with crisps and some salad), which were superb. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and the portions large.

We got lost on the way there, as it is not the easiest place to find when approaching from the south on the A1(M), particularly with all the roadworks. We didn't find any signage to the hotel at all. Better signage could improve things as the road to the hotel doesn't really look like there is a hotel at the end, particularly in the dark and wet.

Well appointed, comfortable rooms. Very clean rooms and bathrooms and the shower was great, love that you can turn on the water without getting wet. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. It's all on one level too which is nice. Food was great, be prepared for large portions. The breakfast options were good, the full English lived up to its name, we also ate there both nights, it's clearly popular with the locals and I'm not surprised as it's good pub grub, it's tasty and filling rather than fancy, but there's a good selection and something for everyone. All in all a bit of a hidden gem if you want clean, comfortable and welcoming accommodation. Would definitely stay again.

If I was being super picky and I know people are, the corridor carpet was a bit tatty, but as I wasn't staying in the corridor it really wasn't a big deal and everything else that was good far outweighed this.

Everything , staff are very friendly & nothing is too much trouble . The rooms are beautifully clean 👌 It's a must to eat in the restaurant the food is delicious... be aware the portions are huge so if you leave feeling hungry it's by no means down to the restaurant! If you don't have a huge appetite there is plenty in one serving to share . Only about a 20 min drive to Beamish & 6 mins from the Angel of the North . This hotel is set in a quiet location even though it isn't far from the A1 you can't hear the traffic & the surroundings are woodland . Beautiful beer garden although we only got a couple of hours in it due to the rain , on a sunny day / eve it would be idealic . I would definitely recommend to stay here if you have plans to visit Beamish ... or just a night or 2 away for a break or longer it is perfect !

We loved the secluded feel of the location. Staff were helpful and friendly. The food was delicious, and huge portions. Room we stayed in was a double and had a lovely contemporary feel and our view into the garden was lovely. Close to the A1, but the windows once closed kept out noise. Despite an annoyance at the restaurant when we first went in for our evening meal, it was a lovely stay. Can't wait to go back.

Booked our table prior to booking in the hotel. Went to the pub restaurant and asked at the bar where we needed to sit as we have booked. Helpful waitress asks another gentleman, and he just rudely points to a spot across the room while saying, "Just over there!" I felt I was in his way and taking up his valuable time. A part from this, everything else was a delight. May be this gentleman would benefit from a course in customer service.

We found it to be friendly throughout, very clean and with attentive staff who were always kind and helpful. The food was really very good, wholesome comfort food well cooked with fresh ingredients. I cook a little at home (not professional but I know my way around a kitchen) and some might argue that the menu is “just” pub food. However, this “pub food” is exceptionally tasty and really very well presented. I wish all pub food was this good! Melting steak in big chunks in the pie and milky fresh fish…and while you’re at it, that treacle sponge is worth the weight gain.

Easy safe parking just off the A1 in a quiet location …there was NOTHING we didn’t like.

The whole experience was 99% superb. The staff, facilities, service and food were excellent. We would not hesitate to book again, or to recommend it to friends and family. However, we did stay in one of the 10 refurbished rooms, which was very good [there are 18 rooms in total]

Two points - 1] it would be extremely helpful if the hotel website drew guests' attention to the fact that many SatNavs do not take guests to the hotel, but to a small housing estate [with the same road name and post code] which is located across the other side of the A1[M] !! Written directions on the hotel website would have been very useful. Apparently, it is the 'biggest source of complaints'. Google Maps do provide the accurate route. 2] The refurbished bathrooms are great, but only have a drench head shower, not a separate hand held shower too, and the non slip bath mats are in the cupboard under the sink, which is not the best provision of health and safety.

The staff were fantastic. Very happy to help and a big shout out to Caitlyn. The restaurant and bar have a fabulous choice of menu. Everyone willl be able to find something that they will enjoy. Great quality and excellant value for money. We had breakfast and dinner both days and we were all delighted with our meals. Great yogurt pots and bacon butties highly recommended!! Bed was super comfy.

Rooms are a bit tired and could do with a revamp. However the bed was super comfy and a great night sleep had by all.
