Very helpful and welcoming, but not intrusive, staff. All the rooms have individual names and the attention to detail was noticeable. The pub is an old building that has been sympathetically decorated with a modern chic feel. Our room was very clean and spacious with everything we needed. Breakfast was great without being too much, using really good quality ingredients. The bread on offer for toast was either homemade or from local bakery and tasted particularly good. It felt like a nice place to be.

The shower drain was a little slow, so had to 'pause' shower whilst it drained if we were staying in for a while, but this wasn't a massive issue and would be very easy to fix.

The staff were very friendly and really happy and eager to help, the breakfast was superb and the drinks were great value for money too. The room was huge, really clean and had a working electric shower and all the tea/coffee/hot chocolate facilities you'd want. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. Overall a lovely hotel that I would definitely recommend to others and would stay at again if I ever returned to the area.

Only one issue - there had obviously been a leak in to our room from above at some point, and whilst this was no longer an issue and all repair works had been carried out, there was still obvious marks on the wall where the decorating hadn't been finished to cover the staining/repairs. We stayed in a group and ours was the only room with this issue.

The rooms are very tastefully decorated (this time we stayed in Crystal, the rooms are all named) and are very clean and comfortable. This one was quite large with a very nice en suite with lovely toiletries provided and lovely big white bath sheets. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the room and the biscuits are very yummy, and added bonus was 2 bottles of water. Breakfast is cooked fresh when you order and it’s always very good. The food in the restaurant is lovely and well presented so it’s worth giving it a try, if you stay on a Friday entertainment is provided by a singer and they’re usually very good. Lastly the staff are fabulous, very friendly and helpful and I have to give extra praise to Mark who was great. We’ll definitely be staying again

Breakfast was very good with fruit, cereal and toast. Drinks were orange and apple juice and tea or coffee. There was also a choice of either porridge or full English with bacon, sausage, egg, beans, tomato hash brown and black pudding. Loved the pork loin dinner at night.

Some drinkers language in the pub was disgusting. I reported this at the end of my stay and recommended that the bar staff should intercede. Didn't like the fact that the pork loin dinner which stated pork crackling had run out. Think the waitress should have said this on taking our order.

Good quality food, both for dinner and breakfast, the latter being freshly cooked to order. Very comfortable bed and nicely furnished.

My room was above the bar and the first door at the top of the stairs. This meant that the live music could be easily heard. However, this stopped around 9.45pm. Due to the location of the room and that the resident's access door was open in the evening, this meant there was an aroma of smoke wafting up the stairs and under my door. Smokers always stand just at the front door which is inconsiderate to non smokers. This issue stopped after closing time.

The staff were friendly and very attentive. The food was plenty full and filling, as well as tasty. The room was clean with plenty full supply of tea and fresh milk upon asking. Good location for Beamish and they supplied us with a discount code for Beamish.

The crystal room we had was very small kept knocking my legs on the bed.Not much shelving in the bathroom to put our things on. The room furniture was a bit dated. The room had an air con unit outside our room which made a noise at night that kept us awake.

English Breakfast was very good. Even tho my partener and myself didnt really make use of it..staff were very friendly I would stay again despite the issue just not same room. Evening food very good and lots for locals to do here.

The bed was very uncomfortable as the springs stuck in your body..bathroom had been painted all paint splatters on the floor.mold or mold colour on shower door seals. Not a good continental breakfast just 2 apples yogurt pots and cereal..no croissant as said in menu.no meats or cheese on offer.i didn't make use of breakfast other than an egg.due to only liking continental.i reported to cleaning staff about the Nelson room bed as no staff were preasant when we left at 10am.

My partner and I stay here for 7 nights, and I cannot fault it at all, clean room, lovely breakfast, we also ate in the restaurant the food was very tasty and not that pricey, all the staff were lovely and extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome, as did the locals, I’ve never visited a place where the people are so friendly. There is a real sense of community in this place, and it reminded me of my hometown. We both slept like babies every night, the bed was really comfortable This place is a little gem, right in the middle of the places we wanted to explore, Beamish 8 mins away, Whitley Bay 30 mins drive, Holy Island 1hr 30 mins, Newcastle 38 mins on the bus, the bus stop is directly outside the pub, catch the number 21 bus price was £5.10 return. We spent nearly every night in the pub, and you could see how well it was run, so big shout out the manager and all the staff. They were on the ball, tables cleared and wiped down straight away, they worked as a team like clockwork. We thoroughly enjoy are stay here and it was lovely to meet everyone.

A lovely room as always with a very nice en-suite with very good toiletries provided and lovely white fluffy towels, tea and coffee making facilities also good with products from Ringtons, the biscuits are very tasty. Breakfast is very nice with a good choice on offer. we also had food in the bar area on the night of our stay which was really very good and well presented. The staff here are also great and very friendly

There wasn’t anything that we didn’t like but I think it would be a good idea if guests were offered a discount on food purchased in the bar area

Breakfast was brilliant along with the lady who controlled proceedings. Location is fantastic, bus stops right outside with easy access to Durham or Newcastle Downstairs was refurbed to a good standard Bed was very comfortable and plenty of hot water.

Bedroom window was either dirty or blown or possibly both. We were supposed to be upgraded to a superior room but not sure we got one ? With window open air conditioning units outside were disturbing our sleep Room was not cleaned after first night, beds not made, bathroom not touched
