1. Staff and location exceptional. Very friendly and attentive. 2. Loved Ripley which is a beautiful oasis and very close to central Harrogate 3. Breakfast was very good with a great selection on offer

1. Dog friendly room needed a makeover (fixtures and fittings) Appearance was a little drab 2. Rooms require better sound proofing. We could hear every movement from the room above exacerbated by the occupant who unfortunately was a heavy snorer 3. Suggest wood, or tiling floors for dog friendly rooms. Carpet is unhygienic and has a tendency to appear worn / grubby. The former are easier to clean 4. Dining area could also do with a makeover to make it more light and airy. Doesn’t require major surgery

Beautiful place sat in middle of the castles estate .lovely quiet place with a distillery, clothes/gift shop and country store. Castle and grounds a few yards away and well worth a visit. Boars head was so comfortable, huge beds good food and wonderful staff. Blonde lady on reception from ripon was exceptionally nice and took the time to recommend places to visit Ripon and harrogate are easy to visit with a bus stop literally on the doorstep of boars head. Both interesting places with plenty to do , or stay on bus to Leeds...easier than finding parking

Cannot think of anything not to like . Some may say its a little tied looking but it adds to the ambience of being an old building

Our courtyard suite was very clean and comfortable, with a huge, comfy bed. Breakfast was excellent, with high quality, locally produced ingredients and a great choice. Dinner was consistently good on all three evenings. The bar is well stocked with well kept Yorkshire ales, which I managed to sample. All of the staff are friendly and helpful, going out of their way to ensure every guest is comfortable and looked after. The Ripley estate is great place to spend a couple of days.

We booked a courtyard cottage, which was beautiful, clean and comfortable, but we were unaware that there is a loft suite above. This meant that we were treated to wedding guests coming back at 1 am and vomiting loudly down the toilet above us. The well appointed bathroom has a radiator to dry your towels. We could have done with being able to turn this off, as there is no bathroom window and the room got very hot.

We have stayed at the Boar’s Head several times on our way to Scotland and the setting is lovely. The bedroom is a lovely size with everything set out very well and bed very comfortable.

Bathroom a little tired and shower curtain not ideal. Plenty of black mould in the grout in bathroom. We stayed in what was obvious a dog friendly room as we found dog food under the bed. The main thing we were disappointed with was the prices in the restaurant . £9 for a dessert is just too much in our opinion. The food is nice but really overpriced. One of our mains was £21 and that didn’t include any side vegetables at £4 a portion. The restaurant is also very dark which makes it a bit gloomy.

The location is amazing and the staff were friendly. We were upgraded to the building over the road which is an old, grand house. Our room was gorgeous, with even a little corridor to the toilet! Also, the room was toasty warm and had blackouts. I will definitely be going back, it feels like such a treat to stay there.

The restaurant was a bit dated, but the food was delicious (perhaps the portions were even a bit too large!). It's only a tiny thing, but when I asked for ketchup and mayonnaise, I expected them to be in little pots, not bottles plonked on the table!! The bar was filled with a loud and arrogant shooting party, all dressed in their breeches and tweed, but that is no fault of the hotel!

This is a delightful old style inn with rooms in a quaint village where time has almost stood still. The room was clean and spacious with a large comfortable bed. Tea and coffee (including a cafetiere and ground coffee) were available, with good quality biscuits. The welcome from reception on arrival was warm and friendly. All staff were helpful. The location is perfect for those wanting a quiet place to stay just out of Harrogate. Dinner was served in a formal dining room, however you could eat in the bar/bistro/ for a more informal meal. There was a good choice of food and the beef and ale pie is recommended and the home made ice cream was very good indeed. We opted for the full Yorkshire Breakfast and it was excellent and kept us full all day. A good place for a midweek break, a weekend away, or a base to explore the local area. We got a reduced rate as a special offer which made it exceptionally good value.

The bathroom was dated and in need of refurbishment. The water ran hot and cold, there was a disclaimer in the room explaining that the it was an old building and to be patient with the hot water, however it was hit and miss. It was however spotlessly clean and the towels were full size bath sheets. Not luxurious: more like grannies updated bathroom where she added a shower as it was the thing to do. Perfectly adequate.

Lovely location. Excellent breakfast and evening meal. Kettle& coffee tray a bonus in room along with complimentary bottle of water. Staff were all very attentive, nothing too much trouble. Free entry to walk around castle grounds was well worth doing and made booking even better value for money. Bedroom in main house good size and large modern bathroom. Also parking free in hotel carpark.

Our room Busby above kitchen and noise from ventilation kept us awake through the night , so would avoid that room if we stayed again. That however was literally our only issue .

The staff were all very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Our power was off on arrival, kettle didn't work (national disaster!) and had tripped switch - this was investigated and kettle replaced very promptly. The food was delicious for breakfast and both evening meals. Village was lovely and we spent a good few hours wandering around the village, the church, the castle grounds and gardens finishing off with a ripley ice cream before heading in to explore Harrogate. Would stay again (we were in Gardeners Cottage in the courtyard with spacious living room, bedroom and ensuite with bath and shower). Would also recommend a visit to Brimham Rocks.

Nothing to note.

The Boar's Head exemplified the quaint but well managed feel of the small Yorkshire village of Ripley and of the Ripley Castle estate at its heart. The staff were all positive and cheerful and anxious to please. The food, the ambience and feeling that we were honoured guests at the heart of the village and its castle estate were very pleasing. The Castle was running the first of a new series of local producer markets which added interest to a successful visit. We enjoyed an evening meal for 6 family members as well as breakfast for 2 at the end of a comfortable night.

Hardly anything.
