Everything was excellent with the exception of the dinner menu. There is just one vegetarian option on the starter menu and just one awful option on the main course menu. Apart from the risotto being boring, uninteresting and overpriced, it did not taste good and l only ate half of it. If you are staying more than one night there is nothing different for you to eat. This is not acceptable in this day and age. Choices should be offered, and more imagination put into it. On my second day l did ask if the chef could make me something more acceptable and the message came back that he could only do what was on the menu which, incidentally, does not change from day to day nor, it seems, from week to week. My husband, an omnivore, was very satisfied.

See above. The staff were all lovely, very willing to help with queries.

Very spacious, especially with 2 dogs. The bar area was very well set out- lots of room with tables inside and outside. Nice tendered gardens with a good amount of grass. Bedrooms were very comfortable with table and chairs- nice bathroom with soap and body lotion. Tea & Coffee making facility. Obviously still quite new as the smell of new carpet was lingering ( in a nice way) I liked the key card entry and push button exit- much easier than fiddling with keys to unlock doors late at night /early morning. Well lit.

My only negative was the car parking was very limited but it looked like they are expanding the car park.

Staff were super friendly, chatty, happy to help whenever possible. Breakfast was made to order - which meant it was freshly cooked - most Hotel breakfasts are made bulk, and usually dried out by the time you get to it. But not Dower House. Our room was huge, and clean. Some of the other rooms were smaller, but we never felt cramped or uncomfortable. Spa facilities were a nice bonus - not huge, but big enough to swim and relax in.

There was no heating or air conditioning in our room, and it got pretty hot at night. There is a rotary fan, and small plugin electric heater in case it gets too hot / cold.

The hotel is situated off the A59 and whilst this is a busy road, it did not affect our stay. we could not fault the staff at all. always smiling, very obliging. Hats off to Ben who helped when one of our party required a vegetarian meal which was not on the menu and with Ben and the chef's help, we were happy with the choices offered. The food in the Storm Restaurant was excellent and well worth a visit even if you are not staying in the hotel and prices were reasonable. Breakfast menu also very good. The restaurant looks out onto the gardens and is very contemporary. The gardens are pretty, and we even saw a squirrel! Didn't use the spa as we were busy doing other things.

Some parts of the hotel are in need of decorating or upgrading, but you have to remind yourself this is an old building, We understand that there are refurbishment plans and we look forward to see what is done. Hope they keep the same staff after that because they are a real plus.

Staff esspecially manager very welcoming and nothing too much trouble. All seemed happy at work as it showed through their customer service. Food was absolutely top notch good quality food presentation top notch. Breakfast plentiful and again superb presentation. Staff were busy preparing for a wedding however this didn't affect attention to detail for guests. We were able to book tables for dinner and breakfast at short notice. Had the most enjoyable weekend topped off with a fabulous theatre visit to Harrogate to watch the Rumours of Fleetwood Mac tour. Knearsbrough is a beautiful place to visit lots to see and do.

Feel the spa staff wasn't as friendly as the hotel team.

Room was excellent, brand new, dog friendly with patio area. At back of hotel which suited us.

A,few teething problems, as the hotel and bar was busy as had only just reopened after a major refurb. Still doing building but did not affect our stay. Everything was clean and welcoming.

Location as we wanted to be near the river. Lovely gardens, outside seating area. We didn't actually stay in the hotel building but it looked really nice. There were new chalet type rooms to the back of the hotel (didn't know about these) but were modern & comfortable. Breakfast included with an excellent variety & choice of hot & cold food

We were in the new chalet type accommodation but already had stained, worn carpet & marks on bathroom shelf. The shower door kept coming off the runners so was a bit wary of safety. Little things I know but need addressing

The hotel was in a great spot near the town. As soon as we got there we were greeted by the temporary hopefully permanent manager to be. He was so friendly fun relaxed even though the poor bloke was doing reception bar restaurant work. Not once did he make you feel that you was putting him out by asking something even though the poor guy was busy. We had breakfast wasn’t really that hungry but it was so nice we finished it. We also had an evening meal it was lovely.

Sadly we were going to go to the spa but it was a bit disjointed you had to go outside to get in there. No details in the room about treatments but it was explained in fairness they are two desperate companies.

Good location, good facilities inc use is pool, jacuzzi etc, good size room, good breakfast, friendly staff Short walk from the river, viaduct and town square. Lots of pubs, cafes and a few restaurants close by.

Covid policy of not servicing the rooms seems a little outdated at this stage, especially when not reflected by a price reduction for a reduced level of service. Was being nice and cleaned my own hair from the bath plug hole and pulled a huge chunk of someone else’s hair out, which was really gross, otherwise room was clean and well decorated. There were often items on the breakfast menu not available. Bed was really hard for me and gave us both back pain! All these very minor points though and did not distract from a pleasant stay.

Lovely small hotel, pretty rooms, friendly feeling around hotel in general. Best breakfast we've had in several years even better than 4 * establishments as was cooked to order and not left on hot plates under hot lights. Great variety, didn't sample evening meal but if breakfast is anything to go by I wish I had.

Road could be noisy if you had front facing room but only if you have windows open. A fan was provided in room so this problem was pre-empted and a solution offered without needing to ask.
