Castle House Hotel

location was great close to a nice party venue we attended. in addition walking distance to the town Center let alone how tranquil was the garden and lake.

very straight forward check in, warm welcome from reception staff. Availability of free car park. the rooms are very clean fits the exact description given on their website and Booking.com. great bar, beautiful fireplace inside it and the breakfast was extremely diligent and variety of choice to choose from. all with a smile and very well looked after by the staff.

The staff use your name when you enter, even staff you've not previously met. It is a family run hotel, and they couldn't have been nicer, more accommodating and flexible. Every staff member was warm and welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional. The hotel was 2 minutes from the Cathedral and a short walking distance to everything from stores, bus stops, restaurants. The rooms were immaculately clean. The back garden was beautiful. It was simply perfect and I can't wait to stay there again!

The seagulls were nesting on top of chimneys and in the river behind the hotel. Between the sun coming up at 4am and the gulls talking, it made my sleeping an adventure. But it wasn't the hotel's fault and it was a tiny price to pay for an excellent and wonderful stay.

Staff were friendly and attentive and the breakfast offer was excellent. Very clean and comfortable room with a well stocked welcome tray. The bathroom had both a shower and a very fast to fill bath. Spotless. Very comfortable and (too?) large bed. Perfect location with off street parking which would fill up if every room was occupied.

The fact that we were in a separate building (called The Town House) which was not clear, at least to us, on booking; and the room was smaller than we had anticipated, not least because the bed was bigger than it needed to be. We were sent an email inviting us to upgrade to a suite for a significant additional charge. After a long journey and given the price we decided not to pursue this as we were only staying for one night. We would happily return but would check that we are in the main hotel.

Room was faultless and beat was excellent for us. Only issue was the location away from the hotel but in the town house away from the main hotel. Beautiful as it was we were situated behind the main door and next to the street which disturbed us when people came in and out; neither could we open the window but a fan was provide which helped. Apart from the location of room 21 everything would have been 5 stars. .

Position of room 21 away is in the town house and away from the hotel, next to the street and feeling we were not good enough for the hotel. As this room was on street level meant we could not open the window and was stifling during that hot weather even with a fan.

eXCELLENT STAFF, VERY HELPFUL& WELCOMING. Great location and superb garden area. We stayed in the Townhouse which was very well appointed , comfortable room with excellent facilities . The short walk to the main Hotel was no problem and we were able to park in the small CP.

We were disappointed that evening dinner is not available and this was a problem on Monday evening as many restaurants in the city were also closed . Apart from Raetern style eating placea there was very little choice of places to eat . had alovely relaxing 'drink' in the sunny gardens before setting out to find a place for dinner though . Quality of food at breakfast was good ( Full Hereford !) BUT Please can you put a simple Cereal e. g. cornflakes on the menu . The Granola is not everybody's taste as it is very hard .nor does Porridge appeal to all . A straightforward cereal such as Cornflakes or Rice Crispies would offer an alternative for guests who,do not want the Toasted Granola .

Excellent convenient but quiet location for city centre. Well equipped single room. Very pleasant breakfast room, with good choice & service. My tariff included breakfast and “Full Hereford” kept me going all day. Greatful for the private free parking.

A personal choice, but in a small bathroom I would prefer a really good shower rather than a small bath with step in shower. If only there could be a truce between hotels to limit the mandatory excess cushions on the bed. A small single room has less space to put them in!

We've enjoyed staying at Castle House several times, on this occasion we had a suite in the Town House, 50m from the main hotel. The Town House was very pleasant. The entrance hall and a stairs are rather dark and a bit austere but the rooms beyond are fabulous - light and airy with, in our case, pleasant views over gardens towards the river. As always the room was well appointed. The taster menu was very nice. The kitchen and waiting staff did a great job presenting the five course to 12? Tables in synch. Breakfast was tasty and served promptly.

Nothing, although I was disappointed to be in the Town House as first, I think the accommodation and views were actually better than in the main hotel.

Very comfortable room, beautiful and air conditioned restaurant and riverside terrace and genuinely helpful and friendly staff, who consistently went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Special mentions to Sophie, Fran and Marina, each of whom made us want to return. Thank you.

Seems picky to mention anything, but since you ask: Wifi was a bit limp, air con in the room would have been appreciated on the hottest days of the year (but the fan worked well). Nothing that alters my view of this exceptional hotel.

Evening barman on Sat evening very helpful, arranging food delivery as no ooh catering at hotel. Breakfast ok. Staff helpful when asked.

Rooms in annex too hot, fans did not really cut it. Understand unseasonably warm and old hotel but difficult to sleep. Difficulty getting key access to annex and no night staff, had to call security, however you couldn't get the contact number unless you rang from inside your room. Not a good solution.

Excellent location in a beautiful building. Lovely suite with everything you’d expect for a room at this price (Room 4). Nice breakfast room and restaurant overlooking beautiful waterside garden. Food at breakfast and dinner was very good.

Staff were friendly and helpful but service was sometimes a bit slow and our breakfast order was wrong on the first day. Tables not cleared and reset immediately. Would have liked more choice of cereals and cold options at breakfast. The bar in the breakfast room wasn’t always staffed and didn’t have the right atmosphere to encourage you to stay in the hotel in the evenings.
