The room was great: it was spacious and the bed was comfortable. We were there for 5 nights so having a spacious room was a bonus. We had tea and coffee making facilities, colour TV and good shower. WIFI was excellent. There was a nice view of hills from the window and the hotel was peaceful and quiet. The breakfasts were generous (Full English) and absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is clearly well managed. We appreciated the personal service we received. This is quite hard to find in other 'modern' hotels. The hotel is a pleasant 20 min walk to the centre of town where all the shops are.

Everything was perfect. One small thing I forgot to report: I recommend they put a shower curtain in the room because the floor got a little wet when we used the shower, but it wasn't a big deal.

Dinner was very good and at a reasonable price, we enjoyed our evening meals, breakfast was standard fare, cereal, yoghurt, fruit juice, toast and a full cooked breakfast that you could pick all or some items, set you up nicely for the day. The room had a comfortable bed and adequate toilet/shower facilities, there was tea and coffee making facilities but no wardrobe just a open stand with coat hangers. I thought the staff were open and friendly, gave good advice on places to visit, overall an enjoyable stay.

The only downside for us was with both of us having disabilities the stairs for the first part had no handrail so it was awkward as the stairs had a turn in the steps.

The hotel turned out to be the best we have ever stayed in. We were greeted when we arrived with help to carry our luggage to a very comfortable room, spotlessly clean with lovely en suite. The owner/manager was helpful and polite beyond belief. We had breakfast every day and superb evening meal every night, the food was delicious and you felt that nothing was too much trouble. Would totaly recommend this hotel and would happily go again, the Wye valley is a fabulous place to see.

Attractive bedroom with spacious en-suite bathroom with toilet. Unexpected, but pleasantly so, chance for an evening meal at the B&B. Very good value. Excellent breakfast. Met other guests, very friendly. Just a short bus ride into Ross on Wye for those without own transport.

Only one drawback. The A40 road passes nearby, and it is very busy. Best to have a room the side away from the traffic. This does get less during the night.

Our room was spacious and the bed comfortable. There is a cosy bar and restaurant area which was very pleasant although there does seem to be larger dining room too. The dinner was excellent - a real chef and well worth the wait. Portions were generous and very tasty. Mushroom risotto recommended.

The room we had was also the fire exit so there was a rather bright green little emergency light which could keep you awake. Eye shades would be useful for this room.

Beautiful old building. plenty of car parking. Great location for exploring Ross on Wye

Being an older property there are many stairs and fire doors. essential for safety reasons but not always aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the beautiful building. The owners have updated the bedrooms, bathrooms and main areas. The owners are very welcoming and ensure that your stay is wonderful and that you have all that you need. They are extremely friendly and attentive. The food is home cooked and excellent. Extensive menu for a small setting.

Exceptional value for money. We were given a lovely warm welcome and even though the hotel was hosting a function and very busy they managed to provide a really good meal. The breakfasts were delicious and on the second night we had home made pate for starters which was the best we had ever tasted. Sea bass for main course with five different vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes, absolutely gorgeous. Our bedroom was in the attic and very quirky with everything we would need for a very comfortable stay. The owners and staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we would have no hesitation in recommending Castle Lodge.

No dislikes.

very friendly staff , always helpful , it’s 15 min walk into Ross so you can leave the car , nice welsh beer on site and breakfast and evening meal was red hot and tasty , the building is old but clean and tidy

me being 6’ tall , the one bed room I had at the top of the building , the shower ceiling Hight was a bit low for me , so if you are going alone and you are tall check out the other bedrooms on offer ,

Hosts were polite and friendly. Convenient to the town for a river walk and drive to by places of interest via A40 road linking the M50 motorway to South Wales. Nicely decorated room with comfortable bed, and bedding. Ensuite with power shower, toiletries, plenty of cupboard space. Decor was in keeping with the style of the period with attention to detail. Dining room was pleasant with provisions for breakfast. Breakfast was served with satisfaction.

The step up to shower not high, but you soon know if you missed it until you got used to it. Would like to have open the window for evening fresh air. Being a Georgian house with grade listed windows, we were a bit worried of opening them.

An excellent, freshly prepared dinner. Above expectation. Our room had a lovely view across the river towards Ross on Wye. It was attractively decorated and bathroom well stocked with “lotions and potions”! Plenty of parking which is rare in Ross. We were delighted with our 2 night stay and would highly recommend. We thought the price very reasonable.
