Vena and Nick were very warm and welcoming hosts. Isla Bank is a beautiful and large 19th century building with very large gardens which Vena and Nick are painstakingly restoring. This is a long term project, but their efforts so far are very impressive. Their introduction and welcome is warm and genuine. Interior decor is befitting the age of the property. Bedrooms are large and well furnished. Our bathroom was particularly impressive. Importantly, breakfast was plentiful and cooked to perfection with seconds available if you felt up for a challenge!

Can't say there was anything that we didn't like but the lack of a TV in our bedroom was something we missed, but with wifi being available we could catch up with daily news via our tablet.......a minor issue really.

What a lovely place to stay. The house itself is so picturesque - both inside and out. The breakfast and dinner were delicious (the Scottish porridge was really cosy and warming, and the eggs were so good!) and the hosts Vena and Nick were really helpful and kind - nothing was too much trouble and their recommendations for things to do in the area were great. The location was also super convenient for some of the distilleries we wanted to visit, including Balvenie, the Macallan, and Glendronach. We’d definitely recommend this beautiful property for a romantic weekend away or a relaxing getaway and would choose it again if we’re ever in this beautiful part of the country again - maybe we’d get lucky and see one of the local polecats or badgers!

My husband and I stayed at Isla Bank House for my birthday and it was absolutely gorgeous! The house was beautiful and we really appreciated all the little design touches. The tub was fantastic as was the bubble bath! We loved the sustainable and no waste approach as well. Vena and Nick were excellent hosts too. They were very communicative and even spent time the day we left showing us around the walled garden. We had to leave early due to a family emergency (which they were very kind about) but we would have gladly stayed a whole week.

We were a little worried about the limited dinner menu but, actually, both our mains were great and so was our breakfast. The wine and whiskey were fab too! If you have a chance to eat here you should :)

From the initial booking Vena and Nick connected and were very helpful regarding our stay and request to store our bikes. Even on our arrival day we received a text to say looking forward to us staying. That personal touch is something that makes a guest feel special. The house is fabulous, steeped in history and the facilities were luxurious yet retained the character of the building. As a keen gardener it was a joy to be shown around the walled garden, where Nick and Vena grow a variety of fruits and vegetables to use in their seasonal fare. The cottage garden and grounds are also a pleasure to stroll around.

We loved the place. We make it a practice to read reviews about a place as well as the place's own notes/terms/conditions so we knew what to expect, but the place and the hosts pleasantly exceeded our expectations. Our room (Isla Suite) was very charming, comfortable, and relaxing. The place was very quiet. The beds were amazing. We appreciated the bonus drams of whiskey waiting in our room upon check in. The servings of breakfast and dinner were always a lot (we couldn't even finish them) and very tasty. We also appreciated a lot the bathrobes/coats (?) provided which we imagine are really helpful for guests who get cold easily (like us). The location was really convenient also for our travel purpose--i.e., a distillery tour and distillery reserve tasting at Strathisla Distillery. Thank you Nick and Vena for having us!

We stayed here for 2 days during a 2-week visit to Scotland. This was the most serene, quiet place we stayed. If you are looking to unwind and relax, stay here! The wood stove heating in the dining room was a great touch on the cold days that we stayed there.

Dinner menu is international, but for this setting we thought a couple of traditional Scottish dinner items would have been nice to choose from. Shower facilities could be better - would be nice to have more modern shower, better shower ventilation, and a drying rack.

Vena and Nick were great hosts. The food was wonderful, and their attention to detail and our comfort was superior to the other hotels we stayed at in Scotland. We could not believe the size of the room and bathroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable. They really go above and beyond to make sure your stay is wonderful. It's great to see their restoration of the residence. We would definitely come again, only this time we would use Isla Bank as our home base for scotch tastings.

Vena and Nick were incredible hosts - kind, helpful and professional. The breakfasts were excellent but what really impressed us was the option of an evening meal as well! The weather during our August stay was rainy and cool, so we wanted nothing more than to cozy up inside with a few drams of local whisky and a hot meal-without worrying about driving. Isla Bank offers a vast selection of whisky as well as a wonderful red wine - the beverages and meals surpassed our expectations! But that's just the service - the accommodation itself was beyond anything we could have hoped for: the common rooms are gorgeous, the bedrooms are spacious and very well appointed, the beds are SO comfortable and the soaker bath offers the ultimate in luxury. My only regret is that we didn't plan to stay longer than 2 evenings. Should we have the opportunity to visit Scotland in the future, we'll most definitely plan to spend a few nights at Isla Bank!

Beautifully renovated period property set in large, mature gardens and a very tranquil setting. Bedroom was large with bay window and en-suite bathroom. Complimentary wee dram on arrival in our room. Not a negative as such, but there was only a bath with shower tap and no walk in shower (which was fine for us but might be an issue for older people or those with mobility issues), however this was very in keeping with the period property. The food was excellent quality, homemade to order and delicious. Food and drinks are ordered and paid for via the website, which I initially thought a bit unusual but it makes complete sense as the hosts know exactly what you want and when and it’s all paid for online so there’s no outstanding bill to be settled when you are leaving. The hosts, Nick and Vena, were very friendly and helpful. They also like to give you your space and privacy but we’re always available to contact should you need anything at all.
