Laichmoray Hotel

Greeted with smiles from very obliging young staff which was great to see Which made a huge impact right from the very start - a couple of young gentleman offered to take our luggage to our room which was great especially regarding stairs once again - we both enjoyed our Cajun chicken from the popular restaurant- Our room was a bit dated but to be expected considering the age but was very tidy clean & fresh and the quietness was a relief after many noisy stays in other places on our trip . Plenty of car spaces at front of hotel - we could not rate this hotel high enough regarding service - a fantastic stopover for all 👌

Stairs re luggage for some

We forgot to ask for a room on a lower floor when we booked , the room that we were given was on the fourth floor and didn’t realise the hotel does not have a lift but they quickly moved us to a more convenient room so my husband did not have to climb up and down 4 sets of stairs. (He has breathing difficulties) Our room was very clean and comfortable, the staff were very professional, but chatty at the same time. We had dinner in the restaurant on the night of our stay and I can say it was excellent, it was cooked fresh for each person and came out piping hot and very tasty. Breakfast in the morning was to the same high quality. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a place to stay if you are going to staying in the area.

The hotel staff were friendly and incredibly helpful on arrival. We were made to feel very welcome. The added luxury of having the option of receiving your breakfast in bed was a delightful surprise and the one we opted for. The breakfast itself was fantastic. Well made with what seemed like fresh products and the extra little jams and marmalades were a special touch. The room, although slightly basic, was very clean and comfortable and suited our visit entirely. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

I can't think of anything. We were delighted with our visit and stay. Was excepting it to be slightly noisy due to the bar area, but we didn't hear a thing.

It was great to be able to park our vehicles at the hotel which is a 10-15 min walk for the small town. The staff were very welcoming and helpful from the minute we checked in. There is a friendly feel to the public areas of the hotel and that was really nice. Our room was clean , but the windows really needed a clean. The pillows could have done with replacing as they were lumpy/ flat. There was a hospitality tray and this was refreshed daily along with the bins emptied. We ate and drank in the hotel for the most of our visit. So we sampled quite a range of dishes across the time we were there. The food was good and there was a wide range of dishes. The only observation was that for lunch there were only bagels on offer and none of our party likes them. I dare say if we had asked for standard bread they would have been able to provide this but it might be good to offer bread rolls or baguettes also. Breakfast was brilliant as the hotel offered three options. We really liked being able to eat in our rooms and everything arrived piping hot well done kitchen and waiting staff you were brilliant. The hotels Covid management was good there were clear directions and information and there was hand gel everywhere. Staff were very diligent at addressing the rules with visitors We all found the staff utterly charming, efficient and polite without fail. Old fashioned manners and politeness have slipped a lot in the hospitality trade over the last twenty years. There are a lot of hotels who could learn a lot from the management team at this hotel. Would not hesitate to stay again, however would book a larger room with a nicer bathroom.

The options we had on booking a room were double / twin rooms. Our rooms were disappointing to say the least. The double room was small but the bathroom really disappointed . I realise that older buildings do have to compromise when installing facilities but this was a compromise too far. For the size of the room and bathroom it really would have been better to make this a nice single room. The bathroom was the width of the small square shower enclosure, could only fit a small vanity sink in ( not a proper sink) and the toilet. The room was clad in the plastic panelling. The sliding door also was not practically or aesthetically pleasing. I would definitely seek better room options when booking again.

My 90 year old mum was visiting for two nights. She is deaf and staff were attentive, helpful and patient. I had taught some of the young waiting staff and was very impressed.

One light wasn't working when we arrived but it was repaired, after I reported it to reception The behaviour of some drunk women in the bar was pretty disgraceful. One was rubbing her breasts on the other's head. No class. I think the bar staff were too young to deal with it but it was tacky.

The hotel is in a good location with plenty of parking. Our room was very good and the very comfortable bed made for a really good sleep. We had a drink in the bar before dinner and the barman was very welcoming and helpful, in fact all the staff were extremely courteous and kind. The dining room is well laid out and we had a very nice evening meal washed down by a bottle of the house red, a really nice wine at the reasonable price of £20…..a bargain. The breakfast was one of the best we have had for a very long time, everything freshly cooked and piping hot, the scrambled eggs were absolutely perfect. We would highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Elgin

Nothing really not to like

This is the second time that we have stayed at The Laichmoray. What a fantastic hotel this is. When you go on holiday you want a clean room, a comfy bed, a good breakfast and great staff. Tick, tick, tick and tick. Check in was faultless. Our room was clean and tidy. You pre order breakfast the evening before. We have no issue with this at all. Especially in these current times when people still wish to keep a little distance. Food is cooked perfectly and served on time. Anything you need, you just have to ask. The staff are always ready and willing to help you with any request. Rooms are serviced every day. Bed was extremely comfortable, great sleep every night. We were at the front of the building and noise was never an issue. The location is perfect if you fancy a wander in to the centre and the train station is right across the road. We ate in the hotel four nights out of the five that we stayed. Always a good idea to book as it is a busy place. Food and service in the restaurant is impeccable. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. Can't thank the staff enough for making our stay so pleasant. Without a doubt we will be back again.

I think that "service" is the receptionist's raison d'etra. Clear and accurate details were communicated succinctly when I arrived. Then, on enquiring about dinner, he ensured that a chef was available and then took my order. When it arrived, it was still too hot for me to eat, so I gave it 5-10minutes.... and it was very tasty. (Tuscan chicken pasta). Likewise, I had breakfast in my room and it was quality and hot enough.

It was all over way too soon for my liking.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Room was of a good size and clean. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. Evening meals looked good although we did not try. Excellent location next to train station and 10 minute walk in to town.

Bed was too soft for our liking. No hairdryer in room didn’t ask at reception for one so not sure if available. We were on 4th floor which was fine if able bodied but there was no lift.

Great location, lovely building, tasty breakfast and decent size room. Staff exceptionally lovely.

I was in a budget single room , room was great and it was actually a double bed! Incredibly hot though as an attic room and it was really warm weather. En-suite was tiny and the sink was weirdly above the toilet cistern which was incredibly inconvenient as you had to kneel on the loo to reach it. Had to fill the kettle with a mug too.
