Hayward's at the Grasmere

The staff were very welcoming and accommodating, always helpful and willing to try and meet our requests. The breakfast choices included with our room price was excellent and varied. The bed was comfortable.

We did request a room on the ground floor, which they gave us. However, it was right next to the reception desk and therefore quite noisy. We could always hear people arriving, leaving and checking in and out. Our room was quite small and we would have liked to have a wardrobe for our clothes, rather than just an open clothes rack.

Great location, great breakfast, just enough parking. Really nice touch having the little fridge of fresh milk and jugs for tea and coffee - this made me genuinely happy!

Room was quite hot (fan but no ac) I ended up opening the windows to sleep but that road quite loud. Crazy loud pipe noises in the early hours of the morning?! Presumably my neighbours turned a tap on or something. Pillows weren’t very comfortable. However, all the positives meant I didn’t actually mind the things I’ve listed. It’s a great little place.

Amazing food, we were quite late arriving but they kindly let us order dinner and wow it was fabulous - and the staff were great both at dinner and two mornings breakfasts.

The road is noisy so ask if you can get a room at the back rather than the front. The shower is an electric one so no real power and took ages to wash my hair. I emailed the property as we were going to be late arriving and I was concerned about their opening/closing hours, and I also asked about availability of an iron. I didn’t get any response.

All the staff were cheerful and most helpful. The breakfast was excellent and the bar and outside area at back also excellent. The room and en-suite were small but pleasant enough and the cold fresh milk being available in a small fridge in the upstairs corridor most useful.

A safety handle in the shower is needed for people with balance issues and a small shelf for soaps and wash containers would be useful. Car parking will always be a problem and it would be helful if closeby alternatives were available

Room- during a particular heavy shower during the night water came in through the ceiling. We called the overnight number and within 10 minutes the owner came although she couldn’t relocate us that night moved us to a different room the next day. She opened up the lounge so we could go there and offered us coffee and breakfast early. She stayed with us until the day staff came in. Our room was changed the next day to we were given an upgraded room at no extra cost and a refund given of 2 nights cost of our stay. Good choice of cereal and cooked breakfast with healthy choice available each morning.

There was nothing I didn’t like. The staff were helpful and really friendly. Sorted the problem with our room as soon as they could.

This is a small complaint but it may be useful for management to know; there was only one tissue in the tissue dispenser on the dressing table on our arrival and having used it the dispenser remained empty for the rest of our stay (3 nights). In addition the sink soap dispenser ( room18) stopped working so had to use shower dispenser gel after washing hands.

Staff very friendly and informative. Room fresh and clean, nice decor. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast lovely, good quality and freshly cooked.

Found the bathroom in our room a little snug, and the shower a bit compact for our personal preference. Mirrors in the room were a little smeary after cleaning, a minor detail that did not really affect our stay, maybe a different cleaning product would be of benefit?

Parking is tight although we managed to get the last spot. The site provides notice that they are on site only til a set time but note that no staff are on site after 6 pm on Sunday! Reminders from staff would be appreciated and large visible sign should be displayed

Room was comfortable. I liked that the windows could be opened properly, it was a humid couple of days so having both the bathroom and room window open was a bonus. Great idea to have the fridge on the landing so that guests can help themselves to fresh milk for tea and coffee. Full breakfast was exceptional.

The extractor fan is noisy from 6.30am, pulling the window closed helped. I would have liked the option of fresh fruit and yoghurt with the muesli for breakfast.

We had already booked the rest of the week in a different guest house which I had booked online in advance not knowing the existence of Hayward's at Grasmere, but needed two extra days at the beginning and found Hayward's. We just wish we had booked the whole week there. The service, food restaurant, room and whole atmosphere was excellent and we loved it all. The breakfast was superb and we were very comfortable. We can't wait until we go down to Bristol again. It will be first choice then for sure!
