Eskdale Hotel

Style, quality and finish of furnishings across the hotel is very good - good bed, bathroom, bar, dining room. Food is good, the choice, variety and quality up to expectations, breakfast a bit better than expected. Langholm is a good place to stay for the Borders if you travel from the South.

The automatic replies via Booking.com are confusing, unnecessary, could be worrying for some - I had ten generated, six for the incorrect dates, and luckily I contacted the hotel direct by email to check all was in order. Impressively I was rung back by the hotel and reassured. I couldn't book direct because I got the last room... which meant going through Bookings.com (a common issue) but I didn't get such a good rate despite a '10% discount', and my confirmations didn't say I got breakfast when they should have. Dining in the bar is sensible, if not as well appointed as the dining room. You can see it's a practical, if not ideal arrangement.

Very welcoming, friendly staff with high quality - mainly traditional - food and a well-stocked bar . The hotel is in an excellent location to explore Langholm and the surrounding area but is also very popular with locals - a very good sign in itself. The atmosphere in the hotel is very relaxing and we were happy to spend some time just chilling with a coffee and newspapers.

Our room was quite a climb and there's no lift, which might be an issue for anyone with accessibility issues. Certainly taking luggage upstairs was a bit of an ordeal (which is probably more of a comment on our packing practices) but the staff/owners were very willing to assist.

Hotel is in a lovely location and the service, staff and food were all great. Parking is limited in the hotel's own car park, but there is some available in the village. Nice base to explore.

Our room looked like it was due for a refresh, and the TV signal was pretty poor (but that's not wholly the hotel's problem..)

Although our bedroom was small it was comfortable and very tastefully furnished. The bar & particularly the dining room were atmospheric and again extremely tastefully decorated. The dinner and breakfast were excellent in choice, high quality & presentation.

Access & parking were not the most convenient.

I am used to Premier Inns. This was a surprise, comfortable, warm sitting areas and reception and bar (in January). the room was big and had, unlike Premier, comfortable seating. Bed was comfortable.I had control of the temperature of the room although dont know what its like in hot weather. Restaurant is great. Loved it. The special was lamb cutlets, so good. chicken stuffed with haggis won over an English person.

Evening meal service was great but I had to work hard to find someone to pay. A minor thing.

The service was very personal and really good. It's clean and has a good breakfast as well. I don't know about parking as I used the bus. It's very close to the bus stop.

Well the location is good but for a person looking for more space, and nature, it would not be the best. But it's all so good.

Lovely clean, comfortable room and easy, quick checkout process. Great location.

We arrived a little later due to attending an engagement in the town and there was no one on reception so we had to queue in a rather busy bar area to be seen. The hotel - not just our room - was roasting hot. We had to turn off our radiator and open the window to cool it down before it was comfortable.

Great stop off from the highlands, friendly staff, restaurant food was excellent quality and portion size.

Nothing really, slight bit of road noise and town clock chimes the hour, but not a problem.

The room was excellent , very clean and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were both very good quality and very tasty . Was very impressed with this hotel and would definitely recommend it .

Internet in our room was hopeless but we were informed of this and told if needed we should go to the reception Area . Every thing else was spot on .

Breakfast excellent as was evening meal. Service very good while being relaxed and friendly. We would recommend it to anyone. Will return for a break in future, the surrounding countryside is lovely.
