I read a lot of negative reviews leading up to this stay but its actually a really nice hotel and the staff were all helpful. Some parts are dated yes, but it isn't a holiday Inn built in the last 10 years. It's history. Breakfast was really good, just kept coming so I'd advise going breakfast included. We used room service a couple of times. Menus easily accessible on the TV as is your bill. On ordering dinner and drinks we did get 2 £5 tray charges which seemed excessive, but the food was great. Shower was also really nice. Powerful and refreshing. All in all its a perfect central location with all the main things you'll want to see almost at your doorstep. And if you're travelling anywhere further like we did to the O2 then the tube stations are right next door. Thanks for a memorable weekend.

Pillows were the only slight negative as both me and my partner woke up with neck ache. They're probably lovely pillows and good quality but 1 was not quite enough and 2 were very high. We settled on using 2 and this may have been our mistake.

Location! Location! Location! The hotel is within walking distance to nearly all the landmarks you need to explore in London. You can walk to Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, etc, saving a lot of transportation cost. Chinatown is also just 15 mins walk away so don’t you worry about food. If you want to take a sight-seeing bus, a ferry or the underground to further sites like Tower Bridge or Natural History Museum, this hotel may also be the best choice, because Embankment station and Westminster Pier is just a hundred yard away. Personally I think the facilities in the hotel are a bit old but it does not undermine the overall experiences, on the contrary it gives you a sense of long histories the hotel has witnessed. Last but not least, river view room is sure best choice but the city view is also worthwhile. See my picture.

Space in front of the three elevators are a little bit narrow, and the one in the middle seems not functional, so sometimes it can take a while waiting. Soundproof is a bot poor especially when you got a noisy neighbor.

Location excellent, very clean mattress comfortable. Reception lobby felt luxurious. Staff always spoke to us. The bathroom was warm with nice bath robes and slippers good towels and soaps. The window looked out into the street, not the central light well.

The room was cold on arrival and stayed that way as there were no instructions for the heating (which was set to 22C haha) and it was only possible to warm the room up slowly by having the noisy air con turned on, the first night we gave up as it was too noisy to sleep with. I have stayed in far swisher rooms for less money, but never so close (400m!)to the centre of Whitehall. I was not concerned about the size which was adequate but despite having 2 floors above it felt like an attic room, with a broom cupboard for a wardrobe, no clothes drawers and outdated electrical fittings (including 3 phones!) and no USB sockets. We don't spend much time in our hotel when in London so the minor bits that didn't work didn't trouble us.

We did not have breakfast or use the restaurant. Location is perfect.

Would have preferred power socket in bathroom. Difficult to manage air con. Room was a little hot & need to open window.

The Hotel is superbly located in the City near to main attractions and public transport options. I loved the decor of the Hotel, which makes it quaint and lovely. The nearby gardens were beautiful with flowers in full bloom. The breakfast offering was good. The toast and tea served to your table was a nice touch. Sometimes the service was a bit slow and some staff didn’t seem to know what was available. The front doormen and concierge were excellent. I highly recommend the Afternoon Tea experience - it was absolutely delightful.

The room service and daily refreshing of the complimentary mini-bar was woeful. Had to call every day to have this serviced; and then wait or argue just to have items refreshed. On some days, the mini bar wasn’t refreshed even by dinner time (yes, I had to make multiple calls just to get some drinks replaced). When I asked about this I was told there was only one staff member who worked his way from the bottom to the top floor to do this each day. This tarnished the experience; but overall I would still stay again and recommend to others. The room is as a little noisy from external noise but not too bad. We were on the 6th floor but still quite loud.

excellent breakfast with lots of fruit and typical English brunch. And also the position in the center of the city near the underground Embankment was very helpful. We liked walking true St. James´park and Hyde Park and visiting The national Gallery on Trafalgar Square. This position is absolutely perfect also near Big Ben and London Eye.The architecture of this hotel is very beautiful and the atmosphere was calm and noble

There wasn´t the possibility of ordering two separate bed, there was only a possibility of king or queen size bed, but we appreciate that they gave us 2 separate duvet. I don´t like that they block my 250GBP on credit card as a deposit and they unblock my money after a few days after our leaving , but I had to ask about it via email. Its´ true that other hotels in UK had to same practis, but in Czech Republic we are not use to blocking deposits in hotels.

Location of the hotel was excellent for what we wanted to do in London. Very easy to get to via train/tube. Great fireplace in reception - beautifully decorated for Christmas. The room was very nice - reasonable view over the river to the London Eye, with the Shard and St Paul’s in the distance. The room was clean and well maintained; the bed comfy and a tv on the wall. The bathroom was also clean and supplied with towels and robes. Breakfast was a buffet but a good choice of food. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Parts of the hotel were cold - especially the corridor to/and the bar; it was the weekend of the snow, so not good. Also not good for when waiting to be allowed into breakfast; no one explained we would have to ‘book and wait’ - not even when we got to the restaurant. Breakfast wasn’t anything exceptional from other hotel buffet breakfasts, considering this is a 5 star hotel and the food could have been warmer. We also had to ask for milk/sugar as not provided with the coffee or on the table as standard.

March 2023

We had a Delux King room which was large and well appointed. The bathroom was large with a bath and shower. Public areas are very nice with plenty of friendly staff who are quick help with luggage if needed. The whole place feels peaceful and upscale and never seems crowded. The immediate area is quiet (and safe), but you are only a few minutes walk away from the tourist sites and bridges over the river. There are good restaurants to walk to through the parks, which we always enjoy. We have stayed before and hope to stay again.

The shower was small and the controls were a bit of a challenge on day 1. There are a few steps between reception and the lifts which are really odd and make wheeling cases difficult. There are staff on hand to help with cases but it is just odd that someone has not come up with a solution!
