Beautiful hotel in beautiful surroundings. Reception on arrival warm and friendly. The bed was small but very comfortable. Staff helpful and kind. Value for money, excellent in current economy.

The rooms are a bit small and tatty, although the shower worked really well, the basin in the bathroom was very tiny and low, as was the loo. No products but I guess you get what you paid for. The most unacceptable thing is powder Nescafé for breakfast!! In the grand scheme of life this is not the end of the world but it’s always nice to have a good coffee at the start of the day.

The building/s and the surrounding grounds/location - fabulous atmosphere and very welcoming. Room Breakfast Staff/Fellow guests We had a pleasant surprise from one of the resident peacocks while leaving to come home - he greeted us outside the front of the hotel door - stunning! :)

We loved everything! I guess the only thing really was that the plug access was a little limiting. The kettle had to be put on the floor to use and phones couldn't be used if they were charging etc. This wasn't an inconvenience to us but may affect others i.e if neededing to use laptop/phone for business purposes while charging for instance.

Room:- we were in what originally the old servants quarters. We would stay again but ask for an upgrade to another bigger room….didn’t realise this when booking! A beautiful old mansion with magnificent grounds. Needs some TLC inside the mansion…has wonderful potential. Breakfast was good.

Our room was very tiny and with only one pillow each. I asked at reception if we could have another pillow each…reply was, we are full tonight and we don’t know if we can find any more pillows. ( they did find one) No towel rails, no bedside table, only one standard light next to the bed which was immediately behind the door. The light hanging over the main staircase was quite tacky and not in keeping with the old mansion.

Beautiful, peaceful setting. Excellent staff - the right balance of service and warmth. Wine great. Food v good. Despite size of room I slept really well - bed extremely comfortable

While the staff were really good I got the impression that they were understaffed - I had to go and ask for someone to check me out and even when I did they took a while to respond. The room was cramped - no space made for a bedside cabinet and I had to keep my curtains drawn for privacy on a lovely day. Only decaffeinated coffee in the room which is a small point but annoying for that first cup of the day. Food was really very tasty other than a really salty gravy. Breakfast didn’t start until 7.30am which is too late for the start of my day, I’d have preferred 7am to get a chance to eat. All negative elements easily rectifiable!

Nothing not to like! Absolutely beautiful surroundings, calm, relaxing with a resident peacock. Felt like you were a million miles from the hustle and bustle of life. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We were a party of 3 sharing a room, which was a good size. We weren't in the main hall but had a beautiful view from our room. We had a 2 minute stroll to a pretty pub where we had our evening meal, although the hall does have a restaurant. We also drove the 5 minutes into the quaint village of Olney, where we had a light lunch in the cafe named 'Teapots'. The breakfast at the hall had a substantial choice for everyone, we all had a delicious cooked breakfast and my friend sampled the fresh honey, which we believe is sourced on site. Would recommend to anyone and definitely want to return! Managed a bargain booking as cost the 3 of us just £36 each to stay for the night!

Our sink was very slow to drain, but I mentioned this on check out and have no doubt it will be sorted for the next guests.

The room was amazing and staff very accommodating when we asked if anything else available. The gardens were beyond awesome & meeting the peacock priceless. Breakfast was excellent but no vegetarian sausages available but they done thier best.

We had an evening meal there that was a very limited menu and we thought overpriced for what it was. We also booked sparkling afternoon tea for three and was very underwhelmed by four quite plain sandwich quarters & a few shop brought cakes, although the scones were nice. The staff were very accommodating when we wanted to finish our drinks outdoors though.

We had a lovely spacious room. The hotel offers an incentive if you don't have your room tided, etc, daily. They offer you a complimentary drink for each day you dont use housekeeping. If you are a couple, you still only get one drink per day. The room had a lovely view, and it was extremely quiet. Beautiful grounds to walk around.

The shower didn't drain very quickly,so I needed to be mindful of time in the shower. The bathroom looked as though they had done a face-lift. But it was incomplete. There were marble/ granite large slabs on the wall of the shower. But had not been grouted between slabs, so looked unfinished. The lampshades were easily knocked and were not connected to the side lamp. There was no side lamp on one side of bed. So, they left a floor lamp nearby. The hinges on the shower screen were dirty. The toilet has limescale in the bottom. There is no bottled water in the room and a shortage of milk. But a nice selection of hot drinks. Tea, instant coffee, filter coffee.

Atmospheric location with buckets of character. Whilst our room was not in the main house, this did not impact on our stay. Everything was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was super and staff attentive. Very enjoyable experience.

Due to a wedding we were not able to eat at the restaurant. We luckily had booked the local pub. It would be beneficial for the hotel to make their guests aware of this upon booking. Room was small and bed a small double, but as we were staying for only one night, it didn't spoil our stay at all.

Ok so we write a UK travel blog, so we be fairly firm. We can tell you now this place is absolutely stunning. Do not hesitate to book this place. A lady called Rose was absolutely amazing I can’t speak highly enough about her. Our room was totally charming, it was like staying in room from a novel, which is quite apt as Black Beauty and Pride and Prejudice were filmed here. The food was lovely and the dinning area was adorable. We went for a superior room but got a great deal. its a 10/10 from us. sadly people will moan about any tiny thing these days, I fail to see how you could not be enchanted by this imposing yet charming stately home. can’t wait to get back already, the Banisters
