Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House Hotel

Lovely room with plenty of space, quirky decor, and a nice modern bathroom. Bonus was to have a fridge in the room, useful for fresh milk for our cups of tea! Shower in bathroom was great - so nice to have a shower head that moves up and down, for guests like me who are on the shorter side. Location was good. Very easy parking, lots of space. We caught buses straight into the city - bus stops just 3 minutes walk away, regular service, and just £2. Taxis were also not expensive into the city. AC in room worked well All staff were extremely pleasant - cheerful and friendly

Only tiny niggle was that the mattresses on the beds were rather soft for our taste.

Property was lovely, very well cleaned and maintained, we were extremely happy with this and would definitely come back again. Restaurant and bar area were clean, fairly quiet and we loved the outside area with the lighting and heaters for a sunny day and slightly cold evening! The water provided in the fridge was a great detail to the room.

The only fault was our shower leaked at the sides which ended up in there being a fair amount of water on the floor after use. Small commotion with a bartender who was rude to us and another customer when he turned her away to serve us instead as he had seen we were there first. She denied we were and was then rude serving us afterward even though we were happy to wait.

The room was very cosy and well decorated, and the bathroom very clean and new and very well decorated. The huge TV was great! I liked the whole feel at the hotel, it felt well looked after and the staff were very responsive.

The only thing was that the food was very very expensive. Our dinner was lovely. The breakfast just should not be that expensive, as you end up having a little fry up and a cup of tea and it was £16, and sometimes £18. The coffee machine was not great and they should have a proper barista coffee machine so they can make Oat lates etc. The bathroom needs a toilet brush and a grip matt for the shower for people with mobility issues, my mum nearly slipped over getting out of the bath. But everything else was lovely!

Fantastic hotel in a dreamy location! This was definitely the best hotel I’ve stayed at so far. Staff were extremely attentive, room was cleaned daily and breakfast was very decent. The hotel was located a 10 minute bus ride from the city centre which was ideal as it was quiet . The interior was modern and the room was spacious with all essentials like shampoo, shower gel and a mini fridge. A lovely outdoor seating area aswell as a bar and a restaurant. I really recommend this place !

The over-priced breakfast! Staff, although friendly and helpful, must be more aware of food running out. This happened every morning. The coffee machine for Cappuccinos had broken down. I could not have a boiled egg as I found the looks of the fried breakfast unappetising. The fact that staff in this hotel and this country generally seem to think that emptying ashtrays and wiping down tables outside is not part of the their job.

Lovely room, friendly and helpful staff and very pleasant location. We were lucky with both the weather and the fact there was no wedding on at the time - hence staff had more time and it was very easygoing. The location is excellent - not far from town yet feels very secluded and rural. Would definitely stay again

Breakfast was just ok. Cereal choices were pretty limited and, whilst the English breakfast was pleasant enough and poached eggs well cooked, choice of breads were very limited. Just white or brown sliced as the granary option hadn’t turned up and no sourdough or artisan choices. Given how much the premium was for the breakfast option, that was a bit disappointing

Staff at the hotel, in particular at the front desk are wonderful, helpful and kind. The hotel appears to be new or recently refurbished and the decoration is really nice.

The entrance hall to the bedroom 313 was cold and one could feel the difference with other halls in second floor. The room was also a bit cold and took time to get warm in the evening. Public transport to get into the hotel is irregular. I had to await for 30 minutes to get a bus and it did not arrive. I called for an Uber service, which finally took us to the hotel. It would be good to provide people with indications about how to retrieve the hotel. Perhaps I would have asked for a cab immediately from the train station...

Lovely grounds and location - an impressive looking hotel. The breakfast spread was gorgeous. The room and bathroom were very spacious.

We were kept waiting for a long time to check in, and the room was not properly cleaned - dust on the sofa cushions and on top of the bed head board. There was also still a card to the previous occupant on the desk from the hotel (we didn't get one!), and the refreshments hadn't been refreshed. But, to be fair, we were a very late notice booking - I just hope the sheets were fresh?! Also, the sofa bed the children slept on wasn't overly comfortable and would benefit from a mattress mat / comforter for padding. One last moan from an environmental perspective is that the gas fire was kept on even in the morning with no one day by it and the heating maintained at 24degrees, which seems a little excessive.

Even though the location is a bit far from the center of Oxford it still is an amazing hotel and one of the best that we discovered in our 2 weeks trip to UK. The two nights went by very quickly. We did enjoyed the rooms thoroughly as compared to other hotels these were spacious with very comfortable furnishings. Unlike other hotels what you see is really what you get. The rooms are tastefully designed and very contemporary. One of the rooms came with a coffee machine which was a bonus. The breakfast was also good with options for both continental or hot breakfast. The staff was also very friendly, courteous and helpful.

This is a fab hotel on the outskirts of Oxford. The location is extremely quiet and peaceful, surrounded by trees. It’s a taxi ride to Oxford or a 45minute walk. The decor is tasteful and welcoming and the reception area had a cozy feel. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. Bed clean and comfortable. Staff attentive and helpful and all in all a great stay.

It is slightly further out than we thought but the taxi service is very efficient and in the summer, a walk in to Oxford along the river Thames would be great.
