The Dalesman Country Inn

I enjoyed breakfast and the hospitality and also the environment as it was very well set out and neatly maintained

I didn't enjoy my dinner experience, in this instance I tried the steak and found it to be a bad cut of meat and with not a lot of meat and little supporting the meal, I was left dissatisfied and still hungry, plus no one asked me about my meal and if it was satisfactory. I did not enjoy the location of the Dalesman in terms of the first impressions it gave me, as it was tucked away in the town centre and nowhere to practically park and unload your baggage. It was a disappointing town in general, as the streets were so narrow everyone had to park a few hundred metres away in pay parking areas, so I wont ever go again or recommend it to anyone else without that warning.

The evening meal was excellent - from the starter of Gin Cured Sea Trout, to the main of Hot Smoked Scottish Salmon and finishing with the Sticky Toffee Pudding! Pub Grub doesn't come better than that! My breakfast of porridge with honey and raisins kept my energy level up all day on a trck over the Howgills.

There was very little to dislike. The room for one was very comfortable, perfect for the lone traveller. Though perfectly adequate, the shower and toilet/washroom were a little tired. The bed was very soft, though I do prefer a firmer mattress. None of this is in any way a compleint! Just personal preference.

We liked everything! The food was amazing, the service was great and our room was beautiful and so comfortable. The biggest bed I’ve ever stayed in! Even the mirror with the built in Bluetooth speaker was a hit, my boyfriend especially liked it after a few lagers and a good old sing song in the bath 😂

If I had to be really really picky the main door to the bar made noises like someone was knocking on our bedroom door so when we were in the bathroom we kept shouting hello! Didn’t bother us though, we actually found it quite funny and made a joke about it.

The furnishings and design of the room were individual and the temperature was right, neither too hot nor too cold( though the weather was excellent). I found I had come without my phone charger and mentioned it. The manager was very good and loaned me a charger....that is above and beyond.

There was nothing I didn't like. A good choice of wines, convivial guests and staff who genuinely tried to make the guests stay a happy one. I shall certainly phone the Dalesman first if I need or choose to visit the wonderful area again.

Room: It was known beforehand to be a small double but we weren't prepared for the very tight access on either side of the bed. Dinner: Exceeded expectations. Inventive menu and well presented. French onion 'Guinness' soup outstanding despite rubbery croutons. Coffee in cafetiere really good. Breakfast: Unfortunately not the same coffee as for evening dinner, but nevertheless better than a lot of places.

Access to bed Small housekeeping issues in bathroom - top of light over sink dusty and (as with a huge number of places) the extractor fan in the bathroom requires cleaning of accumulated muck!

The room, although small, was comfortable and served its purpose. The shower was quite small, but functional! Breakfast was fine and set me up nicely for the day ahead. Dinner was of a higher quality than expected, which was rightly reflected in the price. Service was a bit slow towards the end of the meal, but was overall ok. The location was central to the town centre, so is good for access to other facilities.

The shower was quite small, where a bath would have been preferable given I was doing the Dales Way walk of many miles per day, but that was specific to me I guess!

The room was compact but was good for a short stay. The bed was really comfortable. The choice of hot drinks was impressive 👌. Really liked the toiletries in the room from a local supplier. Didn't eat at the hotel but the menu looked good. Check in and out went smoothly.

The only thing I didn't like was you had to move the chair to get to the cupboard to hang your clothes, we were only there 1 night so managed by using the back of the chair. Also with it being windows in the ceiling you couldn't fully shut the blinds which means it gets light in the room early on

Staff very friendly and welcoming . Food was nice. Locals very friendly. Little cheery and friendly pub.(RED LION)

Booked to stay at the dalesman country inn . Although stated we'd be staying off site. Wasn't expecting it to be a completely different accommodation I.e a little pub around the corner , called the red lion. I think this should be stated in more detail, on there website (booking .com) Although the red lion was a very friendly and welcoming place. The larger was very over priced . But food was very reasonably priced, great too .

We liked the individual nature of the room. The beds were comfortable. We had drinks in the bar with our friends later on and the staff were helpful with a range of herbal teas as well as whiskeys. Breakfast was also good.

We were on a road that was busy when we arrived but we were pleased that the traffic noise stopped early and didn't disturb us. There isn't parking at the hotel but it is possible to drop off bags. the parking just a few minutes walk away.

Fab location, great decor, friendly staff, nice outside space, good drinks, lovely comfy bed / Pillows and the best steak meal ever!

Only a couple of minor things: Shower was a bit small (but it was a single room), whilst only a minor inconvenience, the outside fairy lights were flashing on and off all night and on-site car parking would have been nice
